This is a somewhat local place in Munich, near the university, but not touristy. It's very quaint and charming with outdoor & indoor seating. Of course- when the weather is nice- like we had today, everyone wants to be outside. It's beautiful!! We started with the Obatzda- which I've had before & Love- it's so tasty!!, 'lecker', as Germans would say. It's a cheese spread, of sorts, served with onions, carrots, and pretzel. Our server was great... she spoke English, so we had no problem communicating. We all had Schnitzel for lunch & it did not disappoint!! It was very delicious- I definitely cannot wait to come back and have the same thing!! We could have walked from our hotel, but didn't realize until afterwards when we walked out to Maximilian Street and saw where we were. But, that's ok- it's in a beautiful area of Munich that I have not explored before so that was nice. read more

There are few things that I like more than drinking my sorry ass into oblivion before the morning turns to noon - and this is definitely the perfect place to do that. Not only is Germany famous for "Breakfast-Beer", it is is also famous for "Children's Breakfast-Beer". YAHOO! What potentially happy, inebriated youngsters - or am I "way-off" on that? Now I have nothing against underage inebriation. Lord knows that I did it myself: a lot: Maybe more than A LOT. But "Kriek Bier" ("Cherry Beer") is quite a nasty trick for kids. Kind of like fruit flavored vapes in the USA... Whoops! Anyway, this is an awesome breakfast place, for German or more western morning treats. They have stunning smoked salmon, excellent eggs made in every way, killer German apple-pancakes, and "Zupper-Gut" baked goods (like homemade chocolate Brotchen) that will make you cry with morning joy. I just recommend that if you do have a kid with you - get them Fu-king Drunk. Afterall, it is legal in Germany, and a drunk kid is friggin' hilarious. read more

Super delicious traditional Bavarian food. Highly recommend the Weiner Schnitzel! It comes with horseradish and cranberry sauce on the side. Perfectly crisp. Tasty! The appetizers are entree-sized so we ended up with too much food. But all was very good. Kaiserschmarrn for dessert is a must-try. My girlfriend is from Bavaria and I'm from the U.S., we were looking for "traditional" Bavarian breakfast spots. This place was fantastic. I thought the food was outstanding and my girlfriend says a pretty traditional meal too. We ordered the platter of salmon and beef, white sausages, and bread. This has to be the best Schnitzel that I've had. It was delicious, and cooked well. Served with potatoes, and a side salad, and comes with horseradish sauce, as well as another sauce (perhaps cranberry) that I didn't touch. My only complaint about this place is that the beers are not served in mass (1L) size... only 0.5L. I'd guess that tourists like myself would prefer the 1L. The outdoor space is not huge compared to the bigger gartens, but still a decent size. Seemed to be mainly locals. Service is very friendly. read more

Having been here now for the third time, I have really begun to like the place. It's very local and many of the people are known to the staff. It is the place for a lot of young people in the area to hang out and the food is also quite good, The kaiserschmarrn here is to die for :-) sickly sweet pancake with a nice apple sauce. It is probably the best one in Munich so far, for me anyway. All in all a great place to hang out when it is not too busy. The staff however are a bit slow and it does take them a while to come around. read more

This place was bustling with people outside and inside just seemingly enjoying themselves, good weather and company. This was a highly advised place to visit by the locals and so we came here to check it out. Authentic Bavarian/Austrian fare that included big big portions of protein, carbs, starches and more of it. If you are looking for comfort food that sticks, this is it. We came with four people, had two entrees and a dessert and could not finish it all. This place was known for the wiener Schnitzel (and no it's not the infamous hot dog), which was basically thinly sliced and breaded veal. We had two helpings of that and it came with helpings of house sautéed potatoes and two different sauces to dip the veal in. The veal was tender and juicy with a good coating of crispy breaded crumbs. Reminds me of tonkatsu in a way only thinner and bigger. For dessert, we ordered the kaiserschmarrn which were thick dollops of dough, raisins, cinnamon and powdered sugar all fried and baked into a thick iron cast pan and served with apple sauce on the side. A very popular and heavy way to end the meal but none the less filling. Do try the ales or if you are like me and can barely sip a sip of alcohol without feeling buzzed, then opt for the radler. It's a crossbreed of a beer and lemonade. Pretty good and a great way to wash down all the food! Nice rustic, woody place with benches as seats and high ceilings and a nice outside area for commingling- this place was a good pick for a nice warm evening out in town. read more

So after reading the other Yelp reviews, we decided to give this place a shot. We were not disappointed. The schnitzel is perfect and the potato salad is the best I've had (sorry Grandma). It has fresh arugula on it which adds a great flavor when mixed into the salad. The service was top notch even though they were extremely busy. High marks all around. read more

Best breakfast in Munich, the food here is so good! If you're looking for a good spot to eat brunch or breakfast this is the place!

The Emperors garden is a bavarian restaurant, which also has a nice area to sit outside (technically it's a serviced restaurant, not a genuine beergarden where you can bring your own food). The outside sitting area is very nice and shady, the inside is cozy and a little rustic but not old-fashioned. Our service was good and so was the food, altogether I would say the place is somewhat above average compared to similar bavarian restaurants/beergardens in Schwabing. Altogether a nice atmosphere. If you are a fan of sweet deserts, try the kaiserschmarrn, they make it fresh (why this takes 45 minutes is a mistery to me though, typical recipes I know take more like 20 at the most - but I forgot to ask them). They also serve a good and popular local beer. read more

So I heard about this place from another Yelper. I figured I would try it out before I left Munich. It's pretty cool. Has an outside seating area out front and a smaller inside. It sort of seems like the a more comfortable setting to catch up with someone without having the huge hustle and bustle of the large halls I had visited previously. I got their pork cutlet which came with two knödels that were really good. I have come to love these things. I had a bread one and a potato one here. I do think the bread one is good but the potato one is far superior. Anyways the cutlet was great as well with a pretty big portion at that. I did feel like a king :) I was nervous about this place originally because it was one of the few places I travelled alone and they didn't know English :( Yeah I know, ignorant American. I love wienerschnitzel and this place satisfies my craving. First off the portion is freaking massive. It's about 18 inches long, 6 inches wide, and served over a bed of potato. It comes with horseradish sauce and jam, surprisingly the jam works well with this. I highly recommend this place. 10/10 would come back here again when I pick up my next car from BMW. read more
