Such a great spot! It was rainy and cold so we opted for the charming and warm inside. A ton of people were outside playing games and socializing! The staff was so friendly and SO FAST! The food was all so delicious! Had a weissbier, but they had nonalcoholic beer and other sodas.

Hirschgarten is hands down one of my favorite beergardens in Munich. You sit under chestnut trees, surrounded by a park. Everyone has a huge beer in front of them, some people bring their own food and make a potluck with their friends, others get the food at the vendor stands. Everybody is relaxed, enjoying the nice wether and the outdoors. I love it! We met with a bunch of friends and secured two tables in the back of the seating area - just because there was more shade and we had a few kids with us. BTW: this place is perfect for kids. They can run around, there is a carousel they can ride, deer they can watch and a couple of playgrounds in the park. So, there was a lot of beer. And a lot of food. If you look at my pictures, you know what I mean. :-) Parking is a pain, so better take public transportation! You can enjoy more beer this way as well!! What did we eat? Steckerlfisch (fish on a stick), a Schweinshaxn (pork knuckle), an Radi (raddish), a Brezn (pretzel), an Obatzdn (soft cheese mix) and other stuff I can't remember. You would think I gained pounds and pounds during this trip. But no, I actually lost three pounds. I attribute it to all the walking we did...

German people are always eating pretzels. They totally fit their stereotype as much as they don't want to. The best thing about this place is the fried whole fish and the GIGANTIC pretzels. The weird thing was that you had to get your own cup and clean it. Then they filled it for you. I had a little lemonade in mine (which I wish I didn't). The beer was too light and it just got way too sweet with it. Next time I'll pass on the lemonade :)

A wonderful Biergarten located in the beautiful Hirschgarten. The food is very good with many seasonal choices to go along with a large menu with plenty of venison and other options. They serve Augustiner so the beer is great. Service is friendly and quick. Atmosphere is fantastic.

This is what a biergarten is meant to be. This is wonderful. This is magical. I fucking love this place. It is huge. Tons of seating under the vibrant, rustling trees. It is comely. It is filled with beautiful families, locals and tourist alike. Though, it seemed to have more of a local feel due to the location. The beer is Augustiner from the barrel. Fantastic!! Grab a mug, give it a rinse, fill it up and repeat. The restaurant serviced tables provide Konig Ludwig Dunkel. I opted for the steckerlfisch (pay by the kilogram mackerel that is cooked and seasoned perfectly. These things are MEATY.) We also shared a huge pretzel and the wife hit up the ice cream stand. A lot of basic biergarten fare to choose from at the food counters. If taking the train, once you leave Hirschgarten station turn left on the bridge then left again to reach the main entrance. We went down from the bridge to the right and followed a straight jogging path to a nice residential community and hooked into the park that way. Seemed to take longer. The park itself is wondrous. If we had a park like this in Indy, I would be a park junky. The large pen filled with deer, goats and rams was nice and I am sure the kids love it.

Having lived in Munich for almost two years and not having visited the biggest Biergarten was getting to me so finally today I made it with some guests. It's located quite close to the Schloss Nymphenburg and is located in the middle of a big park. There is a table service area that is very big and of course, the Biergarten has a few sections. It's sheer size means you are likely to find a seat even on busy days. We decided to sit in the table service area, as it was in direct sun and, it was the perfect day for a full on sunny table :-)) The menu is huge and there is all the Biergarten classics here. We ordered a few dishes and I must admit the food lacked a punch for me and, slightly lacking in flavor. This is quite unusual in a Biergarten as, the food in many of the ones I have been to is pretty good. I left half my fleischpfanzerl behind as it was a bit bland. I rarely ever leave food behind ;-)) I can tick off this place as "been there done that". I will probably be back here with guests and others. We live close to some wonderful Biergartens so my life won't be incomplete if I don't come here often ;-))

Biggest Biergarten in Munich! Great Location, good food and drinks. It's really crowded most of the time, but since it's so huge there's no problem finding a table.

Food is good and well priced. Nice Bavarian atmosphere with plenty of locals, not as touristy as most beer gardens in the city center.

The food took a while to arrive to our table. The pumpkin curry soup with wasabi foam was excellent (no pic). The curry was not overpowering and blended evenly with the other herbs and spices. Flavor-wise, it was the best pumpkin soup I had in Germany. The risotto was prepared very well. It was not mushy, or hard, and was flavorful, not bland. The pasta dishes were very good too. Overall, the restaurant is conveniently located near the palace. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend giving this restaurant a try.

The day we visited, it also served as a nice holdover from the rain while we waited for the bus to pick us up. The interior is quaint and cozy, with wood paneling and dim light fixtures. The menu had much of the standard Bavarian fare, which worked out as we were able to order some shared plates (charcuterie board, pretzel, strussel, and some beers). Overall it was a nice place to spend an hour outside of the rain, even though it was a bit pricey.
