It pays to leave the beaten path. Tired from travel and heavy food we hiked down the stairs to this intimate but open restaurant. A mix of locals and tourists awaited. English was limited but menu is numbered. With some pointing and numbers food and drinks were easily on the way. Menu has dish names in Thai you will recognize from home, descriptions in both German and English. The cocktails selection is unrivaled and stiff. Friendly staff welcomed us with a small sweetened Thai iced tea. Not the kind with a cup of powdered sugar, just enough to taste both. Though hidden in a sketchy basement, the thai food here was surprisingly delicious, flavorful, and with huge portions! No one really spoke English here though, so it was difficult to order. The waitress misunderstood our orders a bit, but nothing extreme. The atmosphere here was nice and very Asian-inspired. It was very comforting for me, as I come from an Asian household. We had some spring rolls to start, but I'm not a fan of fried spring rolls. I liked how there was a vast amount of cabbage provided as a garnish to all the dishes though. I also got the crispy roasted duck pad kra pao style, which was supposed to be the spiciest of the preparations. It was oily, but flavorful- and with a scoop of chili pepper flakes was definitely perfectly spicy. Very filling- all of our dishes were huge. Service was fairly quick and brisk/to the point. I haven't been disappointed by the thai food in Germany thus far, but I was a little disgusted by all the flies in this restaurant. Other than that, the food was great. read more

Not sure how this place is reviewed well. Service was terrible. The dishes, at least the soup dishes, had no flavor and not enough salt. They would not bring us salt when asked, what the heck. They charged us for water even though we wanted just plain old free tap water. How can they charged 12 euro for two glasses of water. Way overpriced for the bland food and how rude they were to us. Such a great find. If you have had your fill of schnitzel, go downstairs when you see the Ratchada sign and be embraced by the friendly service and the beautiful decor. For those of us that don't speak German, they have English menus and speak very good English. The food is phenomenal-we had the tastiest pad Thai, and a curry dish that we will talk about for weeks. Been in Munich for 4 days now and we started craving for Asian food. This place was the closest one to our hotel so we braved the cold, snowy weather to walk to this place. The restaurant is underground and looked sketchy but no biggie. Sign outside was enough to see it. Entered the place, there were about 4 tables occupied. There was one server that we saw who was attending to a table. We kept signaling him if we can just get a table ourselves or we need to be seated but he just looked at us like we weren't even there. So, we just grabbed a table. He came over to our table and handed us the menus, there is an English translation on the menu so it was easy to order, but he barely speaks English so we had to pinpoint what we wanted to order. Ordered beef curry and beef salad which were amazing! They have a lot of drinks to choose from, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Drinks were okay. Prices were reasonable. The curry was hot and spicy! We ordered additional water and ginger ale on top of the 2 drinks that we mainly ordered, and server came back with more drinks that we ordered! We'll take it, no problem! But the thing is, you have to make sure he understands what you want to order so he doesn't come back with something you didn't originally order. Because the food was so good, we decided to come back the next night. It was the same server, again, he gave us something that we didn't order. We'll take it, no problem, AGAIN. But the thing that really annoyed me was, as he placed all our orders on the table, he tried to say that we need to pay in cash tonight! I only had 15 euros and I had to get money from the ATM which cost me a $20 fee! He could've told us in the beginning about it before we ordered! Not going back. Looking for dinner options while in Munich, I definitely was missing rice and Asian food so I looked for my options and headed here for some Thai food. This is definitely in an odd place. You'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. It's basically in the basement of the building. Oddly there are three slot machines in the back of the restaurant. It seems like a family runs the place, authentic Thai food. I got some Thai tea and garlic pepper chicken. It came with rice. I was there for dinner, relatively quiet though no karaoke yet from what people have complained about in other reviews. Maybe because I went on a Thursday evening? It was early? Hi - Moved to Germany from the US about 5 months ago, I have to say this was my worst experience so far. In general the food quality in Germany is good, compared to other local Asian places the food here was just okay compared to baseline. It took them 15 mins to get us water and another 50 mins to get us Pad Thai. The place is in the basement and they were dragging garbage from the kitchen through the dining haul to dump it outside. Waiting for our food for over an hour we had time to look around as you might have already figured. If you have to have Thai and don't mind waiting for 1 hr, you could try this place. Its a so so. Ordered tom yam soup, green curry , basil minced pork. The tom yum didnt taste like tom yum, just spicy soup no sour no sweet. A thick layer of oil on top of the soup make it worse. Basil pork okay, spicy enough as we ask for it, but yet again super oily. The green curry tho taste good. Tasty curry with pork and bambooshoots. All came in big portion and with serving of rice. Didnt try the dessert as the karaoke just started and not comfortable for us. A couple of local just sat down when the karaoke started and they flew out quickly. It was around 11pm. Came here for a late night meal... Kitchen was still open at 2am on a Saturday which was nice. The atmosphere is really strange. Most people there are singing karaoke (really badly), and there are tvs everywhere playing super cheesy videos. The restaurant is pretty packed though with Thai people. The food was good... Very flavorful. My main complaint is that the dishes are quite pricey and are extremely small (eg the duck dish is 16 euro and consists of maybe 6 small slices of duck). I saw the amazing rating on yelp and I had to head here as my Indian palate was craving spicy complex flavours. We walked here from the Hauptbanhoff and the area seemed a bit dodgy, but in the pursuit of good food, I convinced the husband to persevere and we are very glad that we did. The restaurant is in the basement, so its quite dark yet cool. The staff who served us only spoke German & Thai, so I had to refer to google translate to tell them about my prawn allergy. She kept referring me to the vegetarian section of the menu (perils of looking Indian) and through sign language and google translate, I tried to explain that I was allergic only to shrimp & prawns but I NEEDED meat. I had the tom kha gai & he had the tom yum. Both of which were fantastic. I had also ordered vegetarian spring rolls as the meat ones had some shrimp in it. I wanted a non fried starter, so I order a stir fried pork, which turned out to be a bit more saucy than I expected but wonderfully tasty. Husband wanted just a fried rice and I wanted a green curry rice, so we ordered both (sticky rice is automatically served as an accompaniment with curry). They were both so good, my taste buds were in heaven. The rice could be eaten on its own as a complete meal. Once the food arrived, we realised that we had over ordered. Between the 2 of us, we should have just gone for 2 soups, the curry rice & the egg fried rice. There was no need for anything else. There was a lot of food leftover, but as we were staying in a hotel and had a checkout the next morning with baggage pick up in the evening, there was no point in packing the leftovers (which were a complete meal) I was kicking myself the next day for not packing the leftovers anyway (refer my review of the terrible BA lounge food at the airport for perspective) This Thai food holds its own against any food I have eaten even in Thailand. Heavily recommended. Oh & on the way back we walked towards Karlsplatz and that was a way better approach. Review is for drinks only! Came in here thinking it was a cocktail bar... which it is not. It's a restaurant with a small bar in the back. They have a huge drink menu, but the drinks my sisters and I ordered were all way too sweet. The poor guy had to open up a book to look up how to make the drinks. After a couple of days in Europe, and had and evening flight from Paris, my husband craved on Asian food. I yelped it and found this restaurant quite close by our hotel, NH Munchen Kaiser. We came around 11pm and surprised that they still served dinner. It turns out that they still serve it until 2AM. Food and drinks were super delicious! The only reason I give only 3 stars is because the restaurant is super duper loud and noisy. They combine the restaurant with the open karaoke area, which you can hear people singing with their terribly voices. It was so annoying to my ears. Anyway, my husband was Okay with that, so we went back there few days later just for the fried rice and the fish! Lol. read more

What a great experience, the elderly man serving us was so patient and kind, the food was fantastic, fresh and authentic. The service was fast and I loved the opening tea they give you before dinner and the juice after dinner, these little touches were so great, I had the panang curry and my son had the noodles with vegetable and chicken similar to drunken noodles, and we ended it with mango sticky rice and everything was fantastic!!' What an amazing surprise in Munich! Needed a break from all the pretzels and German fare- found this place based on yelp. We were promptly greeted by the staff and offered some of the freshest and biggest fruit-based cocktails! We told the staff we were vegetarian and they accomodated us no problem! They made us papaya salad without the fish sauce and had some of the, if not the, best curry ever. We shared the red curry with vegetable and tofu as well as the fried tofu and lime leaf curry.... Could not get enough of either, the sauces were so perfectly seasoned!! highly recommend!! read more

This is not the place where I would expect an authentic Thai, but at least, it is an authentic Thai! The restaurant is in a cellar - a large one, but you could easily miss its entrance.The interior is not great, and there are extremely boring Thai Tourism Office movies playing all the time that are beaten in boredom only by the boring, boring music. In fact, they must have played them so many times that the quality has become horrendous. On top of that, there is a constant noise from three slot-machines near the bar, that is most reminiscent of a total imbecile playing on a big drúm. At least, the place is visited by Thais - actually, almost only by Thais which is not surprising considering the above. The giew toad (fried won-tons) were excellent and exactly as they should be. The krapau gai kadao (which I knew under another name) was good - not exactly like in Thailand but near. Service was very friendly. There is actually an open kitchen at the end (the bar area) to the left, but you can unfortunately not see it from where ýou sit. I would definitely enhance the atmosphere if you could. And if they did away with their slot machines and the Thaksin era false publicity movies. read more

As we settled in, wife commented that it seemed like we were in Bangkok. Unfortunately, false hope. Food was good, but not great. "Good" meaning eatable but barely a hint of Thai. More like run-the-mill fast food Chinese. And, as often the case, total lack of spicy flavors although waiter warned me "very hot" (the meal I ordered had 4 peppers on menu, ostensibly indicating you should expect some heat). If your tire of German or Bavarian food this Thai restaurant is a good place to try. The service is very nice. The waitress greets you seat you then provide with warm hot towels for you to clean hands before eating. We order the red curry and duck plate it was more then enough for two people. We also order a fried tofu for appetizer. The tofu got cold really quickly. The duck was deep fried to make the duck crispy. I like crispy things so it was great for me but my husband felt it was a little dry since he likes meat slightly medium cooked or raw. The red curry is very typical compare to other Thai places. We came here for some Thai food when visiting Munich because two of us in the group were vegetarian and this place has a ton of options (and it was pretty close to our hotel). The food was delicious and the restaurant's atmosphere is pretty cool including the arcade games in the corner lol. It was hard to find at first because it's downstairs.
