It is on the higher price range but you pay what you get for- Sushi grade and it basically melts in your mouth. I went for their classic smoked salmon (1/2 lbs). The beauty of their location is that it's located a few steps away from St-Viateur bagel. So grab a pack or two of smoked salmon, bagels, cream cheese and organize a nice lunch / brunch. They are open Friday to Sunday and share the space with Ripples, the ice cream shop - yup pretty creative! The owner is super friendly, kind and passionate about what he does. Check it out when you're in the Mile-End!

You can get things from veggies, fruits, meats, pasta sauces, drinks cold cuts! They even sell their own products! T-shirts,reusable tote bag and even soaps! Thé havé a little international section, from Indian spices to Asian Chili sauce. It's definitely a little more expensive than your average grocery store depending on why you get. Parking isn't and issue which is a plus especially in Montreal. I didn't really purchase anything I went to a little giveaway prize. But workers were nice. The women who helped me tried packing my items in cellophane paper and I guess she tried to find some but there wasn't anymore. She explained to me that she had told her boss to buy some but she never did. So she gave me used cellophane. My packages weren't really wrapped it got undone and if I didn't hold it properly the jars would have fallen. Overall looked like a crappy job of wrapping and it would have been better to just give it to be in a bag at that point. Just making a point that presentation does count. ‍ (when my friend saw it her reason was wow her wrapping sucks- so cheap they could have given you in a reusable bag to make it nicer) Either way If you're around the area you should check it out it is a cute little local boutique.

Parking isn't usually an issue and if you're in the downtown core and enjoy walking, you can easily get there on foot. Otherwise, the closest subway is probably Lucien-L'Allier. Stuff: In addition to the most fabulous olives EVER, they carry a pretty wide variety of eats, ranging from charcuterie and cheeses to tea/coffee and gigantic tubs of Nutella (6 pounds, people - you can feed your kid for a whole year on that thing). They have a small section dedicated to 'international' stuff, like chutneys, spices etc. and a large dairy section where you can find water buffalo yogurt if that suits your fancy. Price: I think it depends on what you buy. It's a bit of a 'boutique' grocer so some items are going to be more expensive. That being said, my gigantic jar of olives was $9.99 which is perfectly acceptable given the size of the thing. What can I say? I love olives. Great little shop - worth the detour.

Looks like heaven to the Gourmand.

Apparently Mom and Dad have been coming to Le Cartet for years. Without me. I'm trying not to dwell…read moreon that. They actually discovered one of their favorite local artists, James Kennedy, through the incredible metal cut-out artwork inside the restaurant. So Le Cartet has always been one of those special Montreal places they like returning to. This visit, however, included an important upgrade: Me. Since I was in attendance, we sat outside on their good-sized street patio, surrounded by big flower boxes. It's a great spot to watch the neighborhood go by while having brunch. Unfortunately, the flowers also appear to have excellent Yelp reviews among the local bee population. The bees were VERY enthusiastic. Mom ordered the pulled-pork Benedict, which came with two poached eggs piled over a generous amount of pulled pork, along with roasted potatoes and a little bowl of fresh fruit. She also ordered a latte with very pretty latte art. Dad's breakfast arrived in an entire cast-iron skillet containing scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, beans, roasted potatoes and toast. I would like the record to show that there were multiple forms of meat within inches of me. For my own safety -- from the bees, allegedly -- I remained tucked inside my carrier for most of brunch. Was this protection? Or was this an elaborate strategy to keep me away from Dad's bacon and sausages? The investigation remains open. The food looked fantastic, the patio was lovely, and Mom and Dad were very happy to be back at one of their longtime Montreal favorites. As for me, I enjoyed the people watching, avoided an international incident with the bees, and added another Montreal brunch establishment to my professional portfolio. Dogba's verdict: 3 paws out of 5. Flower-lined street patio: lovely People watching: excellent Dad's skillet: borderline excessive Number of meats within sniffing distance: concerning Mom's pulled-pork Benedict: big success Mom's latte art: very fancy Bee attendance: enthusiastic Carrier accommodations: secure Dogba's brunch supervision: impeccable Would I return? Absolutely. Mom and Dad already have years of evidence supporting this decision. I would simply request that next time we visit, the bees make other brunch plans -- and Dad's bacon-sharing policy undergo a formal review.

Honestly, whenever we are in the mood for steak, we'd rather go buy their marinated bavette and cook at home instead of going out. The marinade is very simple (oil, paprika, steak spice, salt, pepper) and not overpowering. With a cast-iron pan and some animal fat for frying, you can make a restaurant quality meal in no time. Another great thing about this place are the wonderful Italian products they import. The other day, Dino had me try some special Mortadella he had imported (the name escapes me). It was soft, perfectly flavoured and melt-in-your mouth good. If you're looking for a butcher in the Plateau/Mile-End, look no further. Chez Vito ranks among the top 3 butchers in the city and his prices are very reasonable.
