All the while FaceTiming my mom and sending pictures of cakes to my brother in law, Roxanne waited and smiled patiently and even chipped in with recommendations. We finally came to an agreement and she offered to personalize the cake and asked me if I was going to eat it that evening or the next day because the strawberries would be frozen . But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. This one became an H Mart (known as H Marché in Quebec) the other one is now MTLKFOOD (which is also an Asian grocery store). I don't know the backstory, but the prices aren't very different from before and with the exception of more prepared foods in their refrigerated section and more prepackaged bakery items, they are selling the same products that they did before. I was really hoping that the advantage of a chain with purchasing power would mean lower prices, but I didn't really see that. The Long Version: My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was packed. We snagged the last table available. The restaurant is in the heart of the Concordia University area and we were the only people in the restaurant, other than staff, not of typical university age. Lol. We both got soup dumplings. I got the juicy pork ones ($10.99 for 10) and my husband got the pork and shrimp ones ($14.99 for 10). They were a good size. The dumpling skin was a bit thicker than at other places and maybe a bit tougher too. That did make them hold the soup in better though, lol. They were tasty, but similar in tastiness to other dumpling restaurants we've been to in Montreal (that were less busy and even cheaper). I expected them to be better due to their popularity, but I still enjoyed them. Service was pleasant and efficient. Decor is casual. There are steps down to enter the restaurant.
