The grocery had lots of produce but when I was looking at the organic section lots of produce was rotting and didn't look fresh. I don't know about you but soggy lettuce at 6.99$ no thanks lol the grapes were pricey but didn't look fresh. The butcher shop had amazing fresh meat . I got a steak pretty pricey but worth it it was AAA grade and very delicious supper The meat counter itself had a wide range of fresh products so that was good. Huge tip if you like kosher wines: They got lots of kosher wines in the back and I was impressed with the large selection!! They got ready to go meals if you're on the go and want a quick bite. The service was exceptional very caring and attentive! Overall, it's a nice little grocery store my only complaint is the quality vs the hefty prices on Fresh vegetable and fruit produce I might be back if I'm in the area for the WINE since the SAQ has empty shelves for days!! Lol Cheers

It's also the only place I know of where I can get my fix of authentic Italian Limonata (not the one made in the States).

Honestly, whenever we are in the mood for steak, we'd rather go buy their marinated bavette and cook at home instead of going out. The marinade is very simple (oil, paprika, steak spice, salt, pepper) and not overpowering. With a cast-iron pan and some animal fat for frying, you can make a restaurant quality meal in no time. Another great thing about this place are the wonderful Italian products they import. The other day, Dino had me try some special Mortadella he had imported (the name escapes me). It was soft, perfectly flavoured and melt-in-your mouth good. If you're looking for a butcher in the Plateau/Mile-End, look no further. Chez Vito ranks among the top 3 butchers in the city and his prices are very reasonable.

There are some incredible marinated and prepared meats which are perfect for the bbq: massive beef ribs, pre-cooked short ribs, filet mignon brochettes, souvlaki chicken, spicy California burgers. Yum, etc. Come early, the bbq stuff sells out. There is also a great cheese and deli counter where the homemade bacon is tasty and the handmade signs to let you know about cheeses that are recently award-winning are both helpful and endearing. On the weekend there are a few small tables with umbrellas where you can sit, eat and people watch, but you're next to a (great) fish shop, so it's not romantic or anything. The staff are low key, helpful, and seem to speak at least three languages at any given time (English, French, Italian.) There is a freezer section in the back full of homemade pastas stuffed with things like panchetta and portobello mushrooms and cheap yummy homemade pizza dough. Some things are eyebrow-raisingly expensive: the multi-coloured olives and the wild mushrooms are in this category, so are some of the kooky fine vinegars, oils, teas and chocolates, and the rarer cuts of meat. This is to be expected I guess but as a local I appreciate that you can also always get fresh quality basics like eggs, milk and sour cream here. I also like that they recently expanded the prepared foods section by the cash to include pulled pork sandwiches. And I'll leave you with this final thought: hooray for pulled pork sandwiches.

**Update August 2026** It's been a few years since I've…read morereviewed this bougie food store, and my mother and I have now been here at least 15 times, usually to get a quiche. I must say, their selection of quiches is wonderful, and they are all amazingly good. We usually also find niche foods, and I always get a gourmet fine chocolate bar for my neighbors back home in Vancouver, too (my neighbors are chocolate connoisseurs of sorts, so it's not as if I can get them an Oh Henry bar lol). In the past, I've also gotten many a bottle of Gibby's salad dressing here. (I love how this store sells condiments from local well-known restaurants, like Gibby's, Joe Beef, Mandy's, etc. It's a great place to get food gifts from Montreal). Yesterday I was in the area and popped in to get a few bottles of said salad dressing but I couldn't find it anywhere. I asked a lady who was working there, in the aisles, where this item was located, and she looked at me as if I was from Mars, asking me in French if I spoke French. She clearly did not speak or understand English and my French is sorely lacking. I was able to convey "salad" and "Gibby's",but I don't know how to say "salad dressing". She totally shrugged me off and went back to her work, as if I was a bothersome but ignorable annoyance. I have to admit, this rubbed me the wrong way. I've lived in the USA and in Vancouver now for so many years, I'm sorry if my French isn't great, but I'm trying. If I'm a paying customer at a store and I'm trying, but you don't understand me, it'd be common courtesy - not to mention good business sense - for you to get a fellow employee who DOES understand English. This interaction reminded me of past experiences here when the cashier was aloof (at best). Maybe the employees are like this with ALL English-speaking customers? I don't know. For me, though, I see a pattern. If you are visiting from out of town, and/or if you don't speak French well, I think I'd advise you to skip this store, despite the wonderful gourmet foods they have here. You sure won't get a feel for warm "Montreal hospitality" here, that's for sure. Oh, and they no longer carry Gibby's salad dressings, too - at least, I don't think they do.
