Yes, it's grungy in there, and smells weird, and is full of salty people, but I was able to get bags of groceries that fed me for an entire week for about $10. Admittedly that was a while ago, and I was a vegetarian back then, and I weighed less than 100 lbs, but hey I lived to tell this story. I was back at Segal's this past week, for a stroll down memory lane, and with the exception of some new security cameras and TV screens, it's exactly how I remembered it. It's still poorly lit. The refrigerated sections still have those yellowing plastic curtains. The floors are still dirty and it still smelled weird. Prices are a bit higher, but I would say keeping with inflation. They stock a few more organic items now. The bulk items used to just be in open tubs (like at Bulk Barn, minus the coverings), but are now in plastic garbage/recycling bins, with lids, lol. The "scoops" are plastic water jugs that are tied to the bins. Most are cracked or broken. I found this amusing. This place has apparently been around since 1927. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but I have a soft spot in my heart for its "this is who I am, warts and all, take it or leave it" attitude.

Fruits and vegetables for the win. I do find some of the food here better and fresher than some of the stuff I used to buy at Jean-Talon. For those searching Mexican products you can find pickled nopales (cactus), canned refried beans, green and red salsas, Valentina, and mole Doña María. I do find the tortilla quality here much better than many other grocery stores in this side of Mont-Royal. They do not have a that INSANE wide-range of Mexican products, but it is on spot. Staff is super friendly, and their opening hours are fantastic. I also recommend this place to shop during the pandemic. There are never crowded, and cashiers are very efficient. I like this small spot because in two aisles you get your groceries. That's what you call administrative management. My favorite place to shop for fresh food.

The veggies and fruit are always in great shape, no hidden half rotten ones in the packages. The tiny shop is stacked with all kinds of treasures, delicious pesto, oils, teas, chocolates, pastas. The best thing about this shop though is the owners and staff. They are so warm and friendly, they pop their heads around the corner to see if you need help finding things, they wave when you walk by, and they are always outside making their fruit displays shine. Great selection of berries and tomatoes... super large tomatoes on the vine that looked divine! For me, what stood out the most was the large selection of local honey - I have found it difficult to find this in shops/supermarkets but this market has a good variety of honey from different flowers and farms.
