I was fairly surprised by the # of stars this restaurant has. The food is not good. I took 4 people there, wait was about 20 minutes which is fine. Relatively small restaurant fits maybe about 20 people inside roughly. We got the okonomiyaki fries which were alright, really strong taste of like ginger or something. Then the spicy miso ramen, tonkatsu, and sato ramen all of which left something to be desired. Just a very simple, bland taste. Meat was really thin and not tasty. My tonkatsu soup honestly tasted like chicken congee, it was really weird. And the worst part was the noodles. Super undercooked, didn't grab onto the both at all and extremely chewy. I heard Daniel Kim was working here so I had to check it out. He recommended the Tonkotsu Ramen and it lived up to all my expectations.

First off, I enjoy their interior decoration; it gives the vibe of a Japanese restaurant. From what I remember, there are only around 2/3 tables that can seat 4/5 people. All the other seating were only those long tables where you are either facing the cooks or the outside. I came here on a Friday around 6pm and I was still able to find seats with my friend. I tried the kimchi ramen and she had the shio butter ramen (it was very buttery and not much of other tastes). As for the kimchi ramen, it was good except I felt like I would have enjoyed it more if it was a bit spicy. I realized after I ate that you can tailor your own spiciness. Just ask the waitress and they give you this thing with different spices that you can add to your own ramen. The broth was not too spicy from the kimchi and the portion size is pretty big! If you are feeling extra hungry, you can always add more ramen to your order. read more

I have been a fan since they opened. That is no longer the case. Staff turnover has drastically changed the quality. They used to serve fresh beansprouts, now they are canned. The Pork/Chicken broth was tan and creamy, my last bowl was dark brown and clear... And since when are fresh ramen noodles curly - like the dried versions available in Asian markets?? The customer service I experienced today was terrible. The food is pretty good - the spring rolls were soso but the spicy ramen really hit the spot on a cold day. Nastiest poke bowl I have ever had. The salmon & onions were barley seasoned if at all. The rice was over cooked. Seaweed salad in the bowl was good, except that was the $15 meal. The staff was nice, they checked up once on us. Overall, stick to their noodles don't experiment. read more

Went here last night with my husband and son and his girlfriend. Service was good. Place looked clean. Not sure how I feel about community tables. Food was fresh and tasty. It's an acquired taste and although I enjoyed trying something new I'm not sure I need to experience it again. But still an adventure in taste and should be tried. read more

Disappointed in last visit on the service end. I've been to this location about 20 times so I know what to expect, it's a little more laid back than elmwood location. I went to elmwood last week and had amazing service and food and literally craved it everyday since so decided to make the 45 min drive here again. I also have worked in food service my whole life so I understand when the kitchen is busy things get behind. When we got there it was for the fairly busy but after about 5 minutes the whole rush pretty much left. We ordered two spicy Misos and they were good as always. But the table had zero napkins in both dispensers no chopsticks or silver ware in any of the mason jars so I asked politely for napkins chopsticks and one of the broth spoons. I also observed another table walking around the place looking for forks etc because there were none. I was given napkins and I asked again if he had any of the other things and said he was out and then grabbed us two normal spoons which wasn't a big deal but the dishwasher brought out what we asked for at the same time so he could've grabbed it for us. I ended up grabbing my own because he never came back to the table and was talking to the cashier about music. I just wish if it was slow he'd be more attentive. Especially as someone who works in food service I've always been told If it's slow fill everything in the dining room up and then if you're all caught up chit chat. The guy seemed like he didn't really care about working there. I'll definitely be back for the food but not for the service. I hope the staff sees this and shows the crew what should be done when slow. read more

Food here is really good! Stopped by while on travel in Buffalo. The Okonomiyaki Fries were delicoius...you should definitely try them. Staff are friendly, my glass was never half full. Called to order and they said we had to order online. We ordered our meal online, which was two items. We then called to ask a question about the order. Waited 30 min and went to pick it up. One of the items we ordered was unavailable. We did not receive a call or an email to let us know that the item was unavailable and we were able to order it on the website, drove all that way for half of our food. Kimchi and spring rolls were delicious. My wife and I each ordered a bowl of Ramen Regular. My wife's came without the egg and she told the waiter. He just said sorry in passing. Mine had none of the extras I paid for. When I was paying the bill I asked if I had the Simple or the Regular. He said the Regular and I said it looked like the Simple because I didn't get the specified extras. So the food is good but our service was not good. Two parties that came in after us were served and left the restaurant before my friend and I even got our food. I went here with my friends and felt that the food and orders were almost rushed. I ordered ramen and they forgot to add some additional toppings. The food was still great though. But the biggest thing that bothered me was the customer service and staff there. The waiter was very rude and had a bad attitude towards us despite the fact that we were being polite. He seemed to lack the knowledge of what was on the menu , and what was on tap. It almost felt disrespectful and condescending to how he was treating us. I was so excited that a ramen place opened up right across the street from UB's south campus. However, it was such a disappointment. The noodles were soggy and bland, the kimchi did not taste like kimchi at all, and the pork was dry. The only thing I really liked was tonkotsu broth. It was rich, creamy, flavorful... I just wished the noodles had cling on to the flavor as well. You can't judge this place like a true Japanese ramen joint. Its more like a fusion restaurant that tries to cater to college students with dishes like the Buffalo chicken ramen. We went to dinner here before the BPO concert on Saturday. The food was very good. My husband got the Mizo ramen it was to hot for me, but he really enjoyed it and said it wasn't to hot for him. This is about the 4th time I have eaten here and I was pleased on all the visits. read more

The chicken was good but i thought it was too oily for my taste. The fries are the BOMB! I wish there was more sauce on it. Spicy Mayo is a must with the fries! The matcha green tea drink i was disappointed in. I feel like you can make that at home by yourself, by some milk green tea powder and add some cinnamon. I've also ordered their charshu don. Definitely my favorite thing to order there. Filling and flavorful. Adding the egg to it or to the ramen order is a must! They make the egg to perfection! I'm not a fan of ramens but I have ordered their ramens and is pretty decent for buffalo. The cold sake that comes from the machine is very light and refreshing. Finally needed to pick a spot to meet a friend and decided, hey, let's check out SATO on Main. Glad we did. More than enough food. Everything of high quality.
