So my husband and I went there for the first time and after we got home and I looked at the receipt…read moreI sent her a message telling her I was really confused on her menu. I ordered a burger and the menu said I had a choice of chips & dips, fries or pasta salad that were supposed to come with it. So I ordered fries and asked for a side cup of cheese. My husband ordered a burger and his was supposed to be the same side with just a cup of cheese however you charged us $7 per cheese fry as if we were ordering it as a separate side. I didn't get additional orders of cheese fries. so I was just curious why we were charged so much on our bill? I ordered a slice of pie. He ordered a rice crispy treat which were $7 each and because she overcharged us for the french fries our bill jumped up to $$57.27 plus she added a $3 tip. I told her I thought she needed to redo her menu and make it very clear to people because it really was not fair to us when her menu says it comes with fries and then she was turning around and charging $7 each because we asked for a cup of cheese! A Cheese cup is not worth $7 each it wasn't that good of a cheese cup to justify that price. We did not get any extra french fries or even a basket of fries to justify the additional $14 charge for 2 meals. Had I known she was gonna charge us an additional $7 on top of a $16.95 burger that says it's supposed to come with french fries, I would not have ordered the french fries. What's really Sad is I sent her a message on Facebook messenger which she did not reply until I called her out on it on her Facebook page. Only then did she reply to me telling me her father was in the hospital and she would get back to me. She then proceeded to block me on Facebook so now I can't send her any more messages or even see her Facebook page. This is not a good way to run a business. She literally just had to apologize and admit, she overcharged me and maybe offer a free piece of pie. Good grief, now I will make sure to tell everybody how awful her customer service skills are and that she rips people off intentionally since this is how she decided to handle the situation.

The place is in the back of another business so you can't see it from the street with plenty of parking. The place is small with a few chairs to sit at while you get your carry out food, take out only. The place was nuts to but's and you couldn't move with so many people trying to get food. A nice smoke smell filled the parking lot as I walked in so you know it's going to be good, food smoked on site is usually fresh and good. I was going to do the Lg rib tip but I changed to the Lg rib combo to get the ribs with two sides and a can of soda to my surprise. My car smelled amazing with a nice smoked meat smell. I chose the corn bread dressing and Mac and cheese as my sides that came with a little cup of cranberry sauce, nice. When I opened the box it was the ghetto style bbq with the generic white bread which is not a bad thing, I have been to several ghetto bbq places with bars and thick glass in my life that were very good. The ribs were four bone in the combo and sauced that were meaty and fall off the bone tender. The ribs had a nice smoke flavor that were moist/tender, not the slight chew that I like but definitely hit the spot for bbq ribs. The sauce was sweet and mild that complimented the smoked meat nicely. I absolutely love that corn bread dressing is an option but the place is a bbq/sole food on Saturday the menu sign said. The corn bread dressing was very tasty and done just right, not dry but not very wet with a perfect moistness. The Mac and cheese was slightly over cooked with a mild cheese flavor in a thick creamy cheese sauce that was good also. Overall this place hit the spot for my Bbq crave and a great choice for my lunch. Bbq comes in many styles so keep an open mind because it's not like Famous Dave's, Dickeys or Texas Roadhouse chains but very good so I would definitely recommend stopping by.

Two things we didn't like about Ernie's: the lack of vegetarian option on the menu and the level of noise. I got the chicken salad and skipped the chicken, but I didn't see any other entrees that were vegetarian. The other thing that made it tricky was a whole restaurant trivia night event happening that we didn't know about. There was no indication. Just after placing our orders, the emcee came out with a microphone and shouted for the next 30 minutes. Disney trivia, I think. Or something about cartoons or old movies with bears. I'm not sure. We couldn't hear each other speak. I startled every time he shouted questions or answers. I had to cover my ears. It was rough! We asked the server if she could ask him to lower the setting on the mic, or at least stop shouting into it, but she said that wasn't possible. So we super quickly ate half our meals and left as soon as we could. Drinks were good though. I got a mango cider, a really unique flavor that was crisp and delicious. That was the best part of our short visit to a very noisy Ernie's in Rockford.
