I used to love this place!! I'm not sure what's happened in the last year, but the quality of the food has definitely gone down :/.

I was in town visiting my family. They suggested the backyard grill. It's one of their favorite go to Restaurants. We popped in for lunch. At first, it wasn't busy when we arrived. But a large large group started piling in. There had to be close to 50 people. I will say because of all those people, it was kind of loud in there. But that's not a normal thing so we're not gonna count that against them. The problem we had was we all ordered my husband ordered a burger. I ordered a chicken wrap and the other two ordered other Menu items. It took a very long time to get our meals and this was lunch and we had placed our order before that Group got there, but I think what happened was the server was busy getting drinks for that group and no one picked up our food. By the time it got to our table, everything was either cold or barely lukewarm. All the fries, the onion rings and even my husband's burger had zero heat left in it. We did tell our server and he talked to the manager and they made it right.! I truly think everything would've been delicious. Had been warm. I'm going to still give kudos to them because they took care of it and made it right and the food tasted good but it just needed proper temperatures. My wife and I had the grilled chicken dinners mine was fine hers was over cooked and dried out. Our mashed potatoes were cold. Our waitress disappeared so we had to walk up front to get our check . With the exception of our server, Taylor and the onion rings, this place has really fallen off a cliff lately. It took forever to get seated when the place wasn't busy at all. The Philly cheese steak wrap was made with sliced beef... Not good at all. The special BBQ pork sandwich supper tough. My mom couldn't chew through the meat. Turns out it was a chop instead of pulled pork. We assumed, and were disappointed. Again our server did a great job. Thank you Taylor! The personal touch is long gone from this place. I never would have visited this restaurant because I had no clue it existed. It's kind of tucked away in the back of a shopping complex and the sign is either faded or the colors don't pop off the background very much. Regardless of location, this place is really awesome. The staff are super friendly and so attentive to the needs of their guests. The owner is often seen attending to guests, bringing out food, sitting guests. Even the bartenders are great at making drinks exactly how you like it. I ordered a Bloody Mary and asked for it spicy. It was amazing. Lots of zing, and spice. The beers are cold and filled to the top. The food, I can't stop thinking about. I ordered the Rueben and it was hands down one of the best Ruebens I've ever had. Another guest in my party ordered the ribs and let me tell you as a Texan with a major bbq hobby, they... were... ah mazing. Seriously some of the best pork ribs I've ever eaten. I've tried Franklins, Terry Blacks, Tenders and almost every well know Texas bbq pork ribs. The ribs at this establishment are just as good as those Texas bbq staples. The last thing I'll mention is that they have a little scavenger hunt in the back dining room. It was so nice to take my little kids walking around the dining room trying to find the hidden images on the walls. It was great that I didn't have to force my kids to sit and be still while waiting for their food. I wish I lived nearby so I could be a regular here. Yuck. Stopped in for Monday lunch special, which is now up to $8.50. (Remember the days of the $4.99 lunch specials?) "Cheeseburger wrap." The small amount of crumbled up hamburger came out cold and tasteless, the cheese not even quite melted, very few tomatoes and onion, and no sauce of any kind. Dry dry dry. Felt like eating at a dive diner. The fries were hot and fresh, that's why they get 2 stars instead of 1. Service was ok. We tried to order 2 USA burger specials to go and asked for the cheese sauce on the side because last time we ordered them the buns were a complete soggy mess that was inedible but were told "NO" flat out. "That wouldn't be the special" the man told me. Fine. We won't be back, It's a crying shame when a restaurant won't put liquids on the side. I've worked in restaurants and all liquids were put into constainers on the side. No one wants a soggy mess that they can't eat. After the new owner, Rob took over everything just going downhill if you're looking for ticket times upwards of 45 minutes on the weekends then come to Backyard but otherwise don't go there. The new owner Rob shows that his priorities are not in the restaurant they're in church or to be at home. he to busy to fix anything that's going wrong with the restaurant when I'm sure he's just sitting at home. the past four or five Saturdays in a row there's been food coming out 45 minutes late Rob you really need to fix yourself before everybody leaves staff and costumers alike. read more

Went in last night. Sign on door said to wear a mask. The staff at the entrance were not wearing masks. A lot of staff that were congregating in the back were also unmasked. Wife wanted to go there for a good burger. She ordered one medium well. She ate part of it and it was very red in the middle and she couldn't eat it. When we showed the server all she said was she was very sorry. On top of that I didn't get what I ordered. The server did say she must have keyed in the wrong burger and offered to change it, but told her that wasn't necessary. I ordered Cajun pasta it tasted like someone put Cajun seasoning on a lean cuisine put it on a plate and microwaved it. Their soup is $4 for a piece of cheese over broth! My son got Mac n Cheese which tasted like they tried to make 2 boxes w one packet my brother ordered chicken strips and and ribs that have seen better days and similar quality in the lunch room cafeteria in school the BLT had more bread than anything and shredded lettuce instead of leaf! I've always had a little trouble with Backyard in terms of evaluating. Atmosphere: Okay Food quality: Okay Menu Selections: Okay Service: Decent At its core, the place seems very average. I've never been disappointed by a meal there, but it always feels a little on the better side of mediocre. I am never truly excited about going to Backyard, and its never my first choice. I know I'm going to spend a little more, and have an "okay" experience. I would call it good, and a very worthy local spot to eat, but it feels a little too close to the chain restaurants in overall results. It has the advantage of option limitations in Loves Park, but they could do more to make it stand out more fro the rest of the pack. I used to go to the Roscoe one often and I found it to be much better than this location. This location is dark inside and a little dirty. I tried the cheeseburger pasta which I used to love and it was nothing but noodles and grease. I wanted to love it since I went to the Roscoe one all the time but it was just okay now. We ordered dinner Tonight from Backyard Bar and Grill. Food was good as usual. I was very impressed the care they took packaging our food. Sauces, dressings and pickles all wrapped separately. Food was still hot when we got home. I ordered six different meals and all was cooked perfectly and prepared correctly with nothing missing from our order! We all were so impressed! Our family loves this place. My grandrents know literally everyone that works there so we go here alot for family dinners. I usually get their chicken tenders or cheeseburgers and both are great. Service is good and everyone is friendly. It is loud, espeically near the bar, but a good atmosphere. Last but certainly not least is there chocolate cake. Its our family tradition to always get it. They change it up alot but its always great. Best cake ever, other then granite city. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is last time we were there my brother started eating a fry, spit it out, and said it tasted like poop.
