The cream soup was like snot and I usually love cream soup. I didn't eat it. The menu described the salad as being on a bed of mixed greens. They served me romaine. When I asked the waitress tried to tell me that it was mixed greens. It was very clearly romaine. I like romaine but was looking forward to the greens. Disappointing at best. read more

So anyways the server Shannon or Sharon or she could've been named Karen , was very rude making comments I did not appreciate I know a lot of old people go there. One of the best deals on the planet! Super nice waitresses that provide excellent service. They put down a basket of fresh rolls, butter, and crackers as soon as you sit down. Well, I don't think their food is bad but I'm not gonna pay seven dollars for a bowl of oatmeal. There is no bowl of oatmeal in the whole world worth seven dollars. In fact I'm willing to guess you could buy a year Supply of oatmeal for seven dollars. The help is not very helpful. We got squished into a booth back in the corner behind a wall. If you were claustrophobic, you'd have a collapse. The coffee is brown water. I wouldn't even call it coffee. it's just warm brown water so I guess I can't say a whole lot good about it. I just had the warm bound water coffee because like I said the prices are ridiculous if you went in there and two or three people had a meal you could do your grocery shopping for a week so I don't have much good to say about the place. We ate here on vacation twice and both times the food was overcooked or outright burnt. The servers seem to be okay with dropping inedible food at your table. 45$ for 2 breakfast entrees is fine provided you can actually eat the food. read more

I took some of my family here for lunch and they still served breakfast so that was the choice for one of the family. They handled the family's special requests easily. It's a great neighborhood old style diner around Rockford. The place is very crowded on Sundays, so e prepared to wait or make a reservation. The servers are quick and helpful and sometimes they are in so much rush they are spilling the food all over while walking towards the table. Owners have put in old school appliances in the main hall just for display and not to use, nice theme. Prices are great and food is also very tasty. One time I had chicken quesadilla and the other time chicken Philly sandwich and both were huge in portion and under 10 bucks. Very satisfied with this place, highly recommend it. read more

We were visiting from out of town and had a quick lunch there, which was really good and huge portions. We liked it so much, we returned the next day for breakfast. Used to go here very often and due to poor management we are no longer going. Food is pretty good if it's fresh and not left on the counter until a waiter gets done having their social hour. Our food the past 3 times has been cold and thrown together. If you want to wait an hour and 20 minutes and get served cold food I highly recommend going. read more

We have been going to Sophia's for years. Consistently good food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and fast service even when they are busy. The only problem we have ever had is with the server Cindy (more than once). She has a very dry, rude personality. The way she words things makes you think that items are included with your meal and they are not so when you get your check it's more than expected. Ask for Maria and you will not be disappointed! She is the best server that we've ever had there, great personality, quick and she has helped us when we've had problems with Cindy. read more

Typical midwestern diner. Nothing is cooked fresh. Everything comes from a can and looks microwaved. One time I was served soggy, sad pancakes covered in pink strawberries in a pink sugary goop and topped with redi whip is their idea of fruit topped pancakes for instance. They served me canned yams as a sweet potato! Can't even microwave a sweet potato right?!! That was our one and only attempt at eating dinner there. The deserts in the case looked good. We've eaten at this establishment half a dozen times with friends and relatives and were generally satisfied with the prompt service, quality and taste of food, as well as, the accommodations made for disabled patrons. At our last visit, imagine our shock at the following observations: We watched a waitress, in front of diners waiting to be seated, scooping ice cream onto a slice of pie, licking the scoop and wiping her fingers on her apron! After scooping she wiped the scoop with her finger and licked her finger again as she replaced the scoop in its holder. She then served the item to a customer!! She did not wash her hands after preparing the item nor before serving the customer!!! On the same visit, observed a bus person clearing several tables and using the same dirty towel over and over again to wipe off the tables without using sanitizer on any of the tables!! On a previous visit a few flies were buzzing around patrons and landing on the tables and food. Disgusting! Definitely cross contamination issues at this restaurant! If that happens here, questions in the areas we were able to see, one wonders what other violations of safety, sanitation standards and practices, as well as, health regulations, are going on behind the scenes that could potentially endanger the customers, i.e., storage of perishable and non-perishable foods, disposal of garbage, food handler's permits, staff training and pest control !! We won't be back any time soon, but if you decide to go........well, it is what it is. read more
