I go here whenever I want to have a breakfast diner experience. The staff are extremely friendly and nice. The service is a little slow but whenever I go here, I'm not in a rush. The diner feels like any other family-owned diner. The food tastes wonderful. The place recently went under new management and I didn't notice a difference in service or food. We stumbled on Ray's as we were heading to Galena, IL. SO glad we did! This is exactly what you look for in a family restaurant - laidback atmosphere and delicious food. We both got one of the 3 egg, pan cooked omelets. They were huge, fluffy, perfectly cooked, and stuffed with fillings. The ham was fresh, definitely carved from a real ham, not chunks of the processed stuff. Hands down the BEST omelet I have ever had! The hash browns were crisp, just the way I ordered them. Our server was friendly, attentive, and kept the coffee and water coming. Clean bathroom, pleasant decor. We will definitely find an excuse to travel back to Rockton to eat here again. read more

Upgraded from the burgers to the grilled chicken sandwich and it's pretty sweet! The grilled chicken has skin on it and it's nice and flaky. A lot of places serve their grilled chicken without skin and it's fine, but sometimes it gets old. I would highly recommend trying the grilled chicken sandwich. read more

Great food. Good menu. Good pricing. Small, cozy, "hole in the wall" family restaurant. Seems to be always busy. Have been there are part of a group that took up half the place as well as bu myself. Smaller family restaurant with the best skillets! Sometimes you may have to wait a little to get a seat on weekends if your not early. Price is cheap and decent portions. Employees are pleasant. I prefer this place over Jessica's in roscoe for breakfast. read more

Nice place...good food...and priced reasonably. One of the owners is always nearby to ensure quality and hospitality. However, although the tables were clean...there were large amounts of dust in and around the seating as well as hanging from ceiling fixtures. Since my last visit, I have brought several people with me to have breakfast. On one occasion we were crammed into a table with a lot of foot traffic, causing our coffee to spill on more than one occasion, then we were repeatedly bumped by patrons and staff when the guests were either leaving or being seated. The entire front section which consisted of two rather large booth facing each other were occupied by 2 couples with numerous children wandering about...they had already finished eating and had already refused more coffee stating that they drank so much they were going to float away. Mind you I wasn't listening nor did. I care however, they spoke so loudly, mostly to drowns out their children. From the time we squired into our seating, these people lounged in the booths, seriously lounged, feet up and all. By the time I got my cup of coffee, it was cold. The waitress said...huh, it shouldn't be I made it fresh for that table over there, then she walked away. I could go on with every detail that has been burned into my memory like the fishy tasting burned black hash browns...however, I do believe in overkill. 1 star and only because I have to in order post my review. read more

Had breakfast with a friend. My omelet was very good. Both our hash browns were slightly underdone and a bit ... greasy. His eggs, lookin' atcha, had runny whites - undercooked. Good diner coffee (is that a contradiction in terms?). Place was full of regulars. No one else seemed to be sending their food back...we couldn't have been the only ones with underdone food, right? Maybe those folks had previously learned their lesson. Could have been a kitchen misfire, I suppose. I was chicken to find out if the "Wrath of Chef" or short order cook would descend on us if we complained. I will give Ray's another go in the future and I will re-review. read more

A nice, homestyle restaurant. The woman who owns it was our waitress and she was very friendly and caring. She remembered one of us likes the fried chicken meal and went to go tell the cook to start on it immediately so it would be ready with the rest of the food (fried chicken takes 20 min). I enjoyed my meal, but the mixed veggies that came on the side were not good. They were the only thing I didn't like. I had a very delicious dessert, too. But the service lacks....it took a good 10-15 minutes before one of the two ladies caught our attention and only after I had to go for menus...mind you upon entering we were told." Rays has by far the best coffee in Rockton. The food is great, the menu is plenty and the daily specials are perfect. Friendly people and all around great place. If you're in Rockton, you must stop by Rays. Open 6-2 daily. read more

My wife, son and I went to Ray's Sunday morning 2/28 about 9 AM. Our order took longer than I thought it should for french toast and pancakes, especially since the restaurant was far from full. When we received our food it was all cold with the exception of my American fries. My wife's french toast was at least fully cooked, unlike mine and my son's pancakes. My sour dough toast was not only cold but it was crouton-esque. We are not complainers, so we didn't make a fuss. This was not our only poor experience at Ray's. We just paid, left a tip and will not return. read more
