What a surprisingly wonderful experience we had here. Besides excellent service, I believe these were the fluffiest and best tasting pancakes I ever had! The other entrees our table had were thoroughly enjoyed as well. We only wished that the coffee was stronger. However, adding flavored creamer helped and the refills kept coming without needing to be asked, which was much appreciated. We would definitely come again when in the area. read more

Johnny Pamcakes is a regular place for my wife and I. The service is always great and they have servers who have been there a while so you feel comfortable coming back know your service is consistent and always great. The are also on DoorDash now which makes ordering easier than before. The food is always great. We usually get breakfast but if you can come for brunch the have really good fried chicken. This place is always making great comfort food as well. The ambiance and the customer service is what makes this place so special. read more

Johnny Pamcakes - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Rockford, Illinois

This place was very busy when I went on a weekend morning. We had to wait just a short amount of time for a table. The service was ok, and our waiter was very nice. The food photographs really well, everything we ordered came out picture perfect. I will say I did not think the food was really good, I think it didn't live up to the photo perfect expectations. I got the eggs benedict and the hollandiase sauce was really thick and tasted just ok. The eggs on the benedict were cooked perfectly. As someone who grew up eating Swedish pancakes, the ones here were okay but my biggest hangup was you couldn't order anything with them - they were just plain! I would have loved to order with some scrambled eggs and sausage or go a fruit route with some strawberries. Overall I would go back again to try some of their other offerings as I thought the menu was extensive and worth returning for! read more

We were headed home but decided to stop for a "sit down" breakfast. It's the first cool day we've had for a while and waffles sounded perfect. We both had the Belgian Waffle and a side of bacon. The bacon was crispy and perfectly salty. The waffle had just enough sweetness. DH likes his crispy and the kitchen did great. Coffee cups stayed full. We would stop here again when traveling. read more

The service at the state Street location was horrendous tonight. I waited 20 minutes for a simple turkey club and had to come home and reheat the fries. They were more worried about their phones and their boyfriends than they were the customers! read more

This is akin to dining out 25 years ago price wise. Food is delicious! Service is great! The value is indescribable. I fed myself, my 19 year old Northwoods baseball player and his 17 year old brother for $40! That's insanity. Would have been at least $60 at home in Phoenix. I rarely give 5 stars but it is what it is ‍. Kudos to Johnny Pancakes! read more

It seems that since we've retired, we get our kicks traveling around the country in search of neet out of the way restaurants, and finding Johnny Pamcakes certainly fit the bill The food was excellent and plentiful, and the service was excellent. I'm pretty sure we'll be back again soon. read more

Pamcakes were good. French Toast was ok. Could use more flavor. Sausage was good. Bacon was good but we forgot to ask for it crispy. Eggs and Hashbrowns were standard. We went on Sunday, which was also Father's Day and although they were very busy we were seated after 10-12 minutes. read more

Delicious breakfast with a friendly atmosphere!!!!! Johnny Pamcakes is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. The pancakes were fluffy and flavorful, and the variety of toppings made the meal enjoyable. Other menu items I tried were also tasty and well-prepared, though a few dishes could have been a bit more seasoned. The café has a welcoming, casual vibe, and the staff was friendly and attentive, making the overall experience pleasant. Service was generally smooth, though it got slightly slower during busy periods. Overall, Johnny Pamcakes is a solid choice for a satisfying breakfast, and I'd happily return for another morning visit. read more

Love that diner-type feeling. I was looking for a "breakfast served all day" type of place while in Rockford. Enter Johnny Pamcakes. This is exactly what you are imagining. Ginormous servings, loud atmosphere, cling clanging silverware, and the smell of coffee, pay at the register..this isn't necessarily a bad thing. This is a decent, dependable breakfast and lunch place with old school character. read more

5 for service, 3 for food. The service was great. It was very busy so a seat at the counter meant no wait. We also love sitting at diner counters. Our server said she had been there 17 years. I think her name was Sarah. She gave us a run down of the menu and then excused herself to deliver food. She came back and told us they believe in hot food first. I agree and was glad that she did that. Sitting at the counter gave us a great view of the items going out. I definitely want to try the waffles the next time. They were golden brown and crispy looking. I opted for the Eggs Benedict. Hearty serving. The hollandaise was a little orange colored and didn't really have much taste, but it was fine. The Canadian bacon was a little sweet, so more like ham. It was all good. My husband got the breakfast with the eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. They are supposed to be known for their pancakes. The pancakes were okay. They were crisp on the edges which we liked, but a little doughy in the middle. Not bad at all, but we've had better. Give them a try. They have another location in Belvidere. It was a busy place and all the staff was friendly and busting their butts. A must try. read more

A Local family favorite, the "Cheers" of Local family restaurants! Super friendly respectful service and the food is like home cooking. Breakfast all day read more

The staff was very friendly. It was clean and had a JBs or a village Inn vibe that reminded me of going to breakfast as a kid with my grandparents. They kept my coffee filled and let us know that when we were ready to order (it took some time to decide there are a ton of options) to just close our menus. The food came out quickly and exactly as we requested. waitress was sweet and checked with us without "bugging" us. The cook knows how to make some crispy delicious bacon! Pancakes and omelette were delicious. The best part was it was affordable and we were stuffed! Definitely recommend. read more

Hadn't been there in a while, the omelettes used to be fluffy and not real greasy, today that was so different. Definitely not the same as they used to make. And we couldn't believe they sent the toast out completely burnt. I showed it to the server and she did offer to get new toast, but by the time she checked on us, we were already disgusted by both the greasy omelettes and the burnt toast. Like I said, we hadn't been there in quite some time and won't be back anytime soon. For the price we were charged, one expect better quality then we got today. read more

Solid hearty food. Be prepared to wait for a table if you arrive on the weekend. But, if you stick around, you won't leave hungry.

Omg!! This place has roaches bad. We were standing there waiting to be seated and my husband saw them in the window where they get the food from and I looked up and they were crawling on the ceiling!! We turned around and left. YUCK!! read more

Don't eat here !! YUK !! & Gross !!Unhygienic & safety food protocols are not adhered to for the simplest ADA allowed question. Spoke to the manager regarding a patron that lumbered through the dining room with a large sheep dog, (it was very obvious this was not a working dog) and sat down with his family, while the dog blocked the aisle. The manager admitted that she was negligent and asking if the service animal is required because of a disability. If this establishment is incapable of complying with a typicalADA ALLOWED question, imagine how INcompetent they are behind the scene with sanitation. Gross facility. Never Again !! read more

Great food and best omelettes in town. Have been going there for years. Great service also.

The service is always great here. It's always busy but the servers are so fast and friendly. Food comes out hot and fresh! Reasonably priced! read more

Roxy was her name. Service was absolutely substandard, she was very rude, didn't pay attention to what was being ordered and her personality actually sucked like a pig snout. It must had been a bad day to be there. September 3, 2025, 10:15 am. Raining. She had very bad manners to be a server/waitress. No greetings, I guess that's her preference of race, very snappy and pushy as far as placing your order. I did notice that she was so friendly with those of her own race? Cheerful, greeting and saying good morning and hello to everyone. Can I get you some coffee or tea? Where would you like to sit? She even went as far as getting silverware for certain groups of customers. I actually had to ask two different waitresses for silverware and water and napkins. I'm a disabled veteran and I felt so lost being in that restaurant. I have no plans on returning as I don't reside in that state. Food and service was a point blank "no-go." Do better in your hiring process. Some individuals just don't make the cut. She's one of them. read more

We were a waitresses worst nightmare but our server was great!! We ordered a bunch of stuff, ask for this & that after our food came but she handled it with good humor and grace. All of our different foods were good, cooked just right and served hot. If you're looking for a good breakfast while in Rockford, Ill. this is your place!! read more

Great food. Extremely good service. Busy restaurant, but not loud. We were a party of eleven and our waitress remembered specifically what one of our granddaughters was drinking and graciously asked if she wanted a refill... at the end of the meal. She was impressive and attentive. Great dining experience on July 1, 2025. Happy 4th of July everyone! read more

Best Swedish pancakes in Rockford! Everything on the menu is great too. For a classic diner experience you can't ask for anything more. Great service and never an empty cup of coffee! read more

Went here for Mother's Day last year. They served me MOLDY WAFFLES with the mold cut off. The chocolate milk didn't make me sick, and it didn't taste curdled, so I guess it was a drink. Service was mildly quick, the place is often really crowded, and it's inside the local Harley Davidson, so if you've got a party large enough, you can just walk out the door and check out the shop. The bathrooms are fucking disgusting, saw a junkie shooting up in there, along with MORE MOLDY BREAD. I would rather shoot myself in the head than return here read more

Well, I was touristing here from Minneapolis so wanted to visit a variety of locations. My friend who lives here only wants to come here, so, what's a tourist to do? Well I went back to find friendly, experienced servers again. Danielle and Brenda are superb servers. I have yet to see a restaurant make my girlfriend's eggs right. I'm bargaining with her to be quiet about it most times. Here I notice the breakfasts are perfectly made to her order. A novel concept always getting what you order. Another novel concept is the staff are great. The food is great and the price is fair. Yes, you may need to wait a bit to seat. Just relax, the wait is well worth it. This is a nice cozy place to visit or even tourist again and again. Thank you. Mae read more

Came here with two very hungry teenage boys while we were visiting Rockford. We were seated quickly, and were presented with menus by our waitress promptly. All three of us ordered the swedish pancakes, which were served promptly. The portions were huge and we could have easily ordered two a piece, instead of three. Our waitress was kind yet efficient, and kept my coffee mug full. This is definitely a quick turnover type of restaurant but we never felt rushed. We really enjoyed our pancakes and I saw a lot of interesting options on the menu. Very reasonably priced as well. read more

I have had good and bad service here but the food is alway good. The breakfast is always amazing but if you come in on the weekend expect to wait a bit but it is worth it. The bathrooms are not the cleanest and the men's bathroom door is positioned that you could get hit when walking by as the hallway to the bathrooms is not big at all. Either way the risk of being hit by an opening door, having to wait, and hit or miss service it is worth it for the taste of the food! Try it if you haven't. My new favorite is the biscuits and gravy. I usually order the omelettes from here because they are nice and fluffy. read more

In Rockford and looking for breakfast or lunch? Do not stop any place other than here!! The portions are not only huge but delicious!! There is usually a few minutes wait on the weekends but it's worth it. I cannot really recommend one specific thing because everything is good and tastes as you would expect. Pancakes are huge, light and fluffy. Although I typically eat breakfast (my favorite meal any time of day) lunch and even some dinner options are available. Don't go to the chains for a meal! Go say hi to John or Pam. One of them will probably be working at the time! read more

This was plan B on the fly when my first place ended up not being open with yelps posted hours. The place looks like a repurposed restaurant from the past with a front sun room and a drive thru on the side. Parking was easy just after opening and seated was the same, please wait to be seated by the way. I was promptly seated with menu and water, plastic cup which I hate by the way. The place can best be described as an old school diner because it was dated. It has the lunch counter up front with booths and tables in the rest of the place and the crappy carpet mixed with that fast food brick looking floor tile thing. The menu has all the regulars and I was hoping that the chicken fried might be the needle in a hay stack real one, no frozen like 99% of the places that I ask if its a real one. Well I'm going to play it safe and just get the sausage patties with eggs, hash browns and sourdough toast. The food came right away and the sourdough toast looked great, not the I can't tell if it's white bread of sourdough when looking at it kind. The eggs were perfect sunny side up and the hash browns were good and cooked nicely. The sausage patties were juicy and not cooked to dry/death with good flavor, not the boring bland kind. The sourdough toast was good with that nice little chew which is my favorite toast option. Overall it was a solid breakfast and I can see why it filled up while I was there, not every breakfast place is a solid one believe it or not. I would have no problem going back for breakfast and my server was ok for how the place filled up. read more

Tldr bad coffee mediocre omelet and decent pancakes. Busy understaffed place. Run from what architecturally is an 80s McDonald's, this place is packed for a very average dining experience. No place which specifically calls out pancakes in its name should be missing maple syrup. Even if it is a premium add on cost. This is literally a no Brainer. The pancakes were the best part of the meal so they are doing that ok. The coffee was bitter and just bad tasting. So skip the entirely. I also had the broccoli and cheese omelet. It was fluffy but lacked any seasoning. Also chop up the broccoli to at least smaller than a quarter. There were literally pieces which wer 2" long in there. The staff was nice and doing their best to keep up. They were doing a good job of cleaning in-between diners as well. I may try again I may not on this place. read more
