Great diner in Belvidere to take a meal-break on the way to/from Chicago. Not *right off* I-90 but close enough with several gas stations available in-between. Covered outdoor parking for rainy/snowy days. Prices are quite reasonable, and the food is delicious with a wide variety of menu options! After moving back to Belvidere, we decided to eat here for breakfast one day. Prices were very reasonable and everything sounded so good. Food did take a minute- they said a fifty minute wait. It was worth it. I got the biscuits and gravy omelette which was amazing! Definitely had leftovers. Wish I would had known there were specials for the day. read more

Uncle John's is just a classic hometown, diner style restaurant. The food is terrific, especially if you stick with the breakfast classics, such as eggs (any style), potatoes , breakfast meats, and pancakes. The Swedish pancakes are superb, especially with a side order of lingonberries. Being family-run, and a close knit family at that, the service is outstanding. It's like you've been adopted into a family that's focused on getting good food into your body in a friendly and caring way. We go there regularly and almost always bring friends from out of town here, including the snooty ones, for breakfast or lunch and everybody has such a great time. I'm not the only one who thinks this is a great place, so be prepared, on occasion, for a wait during peak hours, but they are so efficient that tables open up quickly. Highly recommended. read more

Food was very reasonable. Patty melt was good, but just a little greasy. From my understanding, the individuals ordering meatloaf said it was very good. Unfortunately, one of our group ordered spaghetti and got meatloaf instead. They were just a little bit disappointed. I really like the vibe here. Very homey little diner joint. My favorite. I've only been here once so far, so I'll tell y'all what NOT to order. 1. The French toast with strawberries, eww. The strawberries are those frozen faded pink mushy things. Don't know why any restaurant would serve such crap. 2. Bacon. It's flat, dry, and I think microwaved? Who screws up bacon? We were at Uncle John's Restaurant earlier in the day to have breakfast like we've been doing for many year's but this time it was different. The waitress came to our table gave us a menu and asked us what kind of beverages we wanted like always she came back and gave us our beverages but never came back to take our order. We waited 15 minutes and the waitress never came back or acknowledge that we were there, the waitress was concentrating only on the latino family that was there and it was just me, my wife and the other family in the restaurant at that time multiple waitresses walk past our table and never offered to take our order we never felt so discriminated in our life at any restaurant in Belvidere before so we decided to leave and go to another restaurant that served us promptly as soon as we walked into their restaurant. I don't know what happened with Uncle John's but this is the last time I'm ever going to eat at this restaurant. read more

Many people have encouraged me to try the Breakfast here..... so this morning I did. Well so much for the order 2 get 3 stories, or perhaps that's only for regulars news flash the regulars look like they are ready to die.... the future regulars could be me and the friend that I brought with me on the recommendations others had given me. It sucks when you promise someone a great breakfast and don't get it. The Pancakes tasted old and even to the point of being tough.... the Bacon was just weird.... not sure if it was the way it was cooked or if it's cheap bacon to begin with. Coffee was weak, I wish I had ordered Juice instead. Probably not coming back and I would never recommend to anyone, with the fear that they would have a similar experience to me..... POOR... The only positive was that the server was very pleasant and she took our order well and checked back with us several times.... I just didn't want to complain in person. And I guess my complaints are only due to other friends of mine building up my expectations before arriving. When there are better places so close by you have to live up to your reputation! Waitress Jennifer rude as hell threw my food bag at me, when getting order to go, talks back and scream at me while been overcharged on my bill. Owner Patty comes and instead solving the issue creates an argument. How much food a petite old lady, 80 years old can eat? I requested kid menu item: small pancakes, 2 eggs, side of bacon, I usually paid $5.40 when Miriane owners daughter served me this item with no problem, no argument. Now comes rude attitude waitress Jennifer tried to charge me $12.00 when requested same item. I requested to Patty review price. She comes with $8.00 as described: (short pancake stock) 2 small pancakes $5.00, side of bacon $3.00, still not my regular kids menu value. Patty (owner) becomes all defensive stating that kids menu it's meant for kids under 12 y/o, remind you Miriane (owners daughter) never had an issue full filing my order and charging me as kids menu stated. Waitress Jennifer has to go with that bad attitude. Patty you've just lost a regular customer since you've been greedy, rude and not satisfying your customers while overcharging. Breakfast is phenomenal, lunch is fantastic, and the Friday fish fry is to die for. If I could put a rating higher than 5, I would. You will not be disappointed. I've been to this restaurant several times, and I'm finally taking the time to give it a good review. My daughter took me there for breakfast today, and right away we were greeted by two waitresses, and given coffee and water at our table. Our waitress was very nice, and my order was kind of special. The cook correctly prepared my order, and the food was soooo delicious!! The food is affordable the portions are larger than expected, the service is fast, and friendly.
