5 stars for the Cherry Valley Cafe. I really enjoyed this cute little neighborhood cafe. There is plenty of seating inside, and our waitress (I believe her name was Pam), was extremely friendly and provided quick and great service. I also got to meet the owner who was very nice. I tried the Mushroom & Swiss Omlette, which was fantastic. It went great with their local signature hot sauce, which had a nice smoky kind of taste to it and wasn't crazy spicy, perfect for breakfast. The prices are super reasonable as well. Overall, you should definitely support this small business and check out Cherry Valley Cafe - it's very close to the Hurricane Harbor Rockford water park if you're planning on going there in the summertime. read more

Charming, small, neighborly, an a small town staple. My omelette had fresh vegetables and plenty of meat and was cooked nicely. Hash browns were average at best. A very quaint little cafe location in a small town just outside of Rockford. The street just a few feet away is actually paved with bricks. The server is super sweet and it has that hometown e vibe. I wish I would have ordered some pie or something else but I just had a simple breakfast. read more

One star is because the place is clean, menu affordable with great selections and very nice server. The kitchen "cook" is the problem. My fluffy scrambled egg came flat as a crepe. My pancake was heavy, thick, chewy and barely warm. My sausage link was cool not warm. Our server said the cook responded " he does not know how to cook fluffy eggs". May I ask what he is doing in the kitchen? My husband said he hated his meal as well .....with his over medium egg edges burned ( inexperienced cooks do this on a grill that is too hot). I looked at posted restaurant photos and they shown perfected fluffy and over medium eggs pictured. The problem is the guy in the kitchen ( certainly cannot call him a cook). This is a nice little place in the small village of Cherry Valley, that was very cozy, which I enjoyed about the one time I went there. To eat, I had the English Scrambler, which was somewhat dry, and tasteless, so I will most likely order something different during my next visit to the restaurant. When ordering iced tea...don't. It is just a fountain drink named, 'Brisk Iced Tea,' and they don't even have Hot tea! For a breakfest place, that is not a positive. The service is consistently slow, but once they get there, they are very helpful and friendly. The bathrooms are extremely small, but also they are very clean, which is what matters most. Overall, this is a small, cozy place to spend the morning, I love the atmosphere, but they have some work to do. read more

Stopped in for their fish fry tonight which was supposed to be all you can eat. I ordered the fried cod and was never asked if I would like any more. I almost ordered coffee but saw that the pots were not being heated. The next customer ordered coffee and was told that he had to wait until the pots were warmed up. After 5 minutes they served him cold coffee. A group of 4 came in and ordered coffee, 3 were given cold coffee and the 4th a hot cup of very old decaf. After all of this I left without even getting my dessert. Besides the prices have gone up considerably. read more

Eat here with my family all the time. Had lunch here today and had the chicken on biscuits special. It was very good! The staff is always friendly and the service is excellent. If your looking for a great breakfast place their it. If your looking for a great restaurant to grab lunch they won't disappoint either. Definitely recommend them. Great small town diner. read more

The bar was pretty low walking in. I've been here before and it was ok. Everything has zero seasoning on it but I guess I expect it from a place like this. However this time was HORRIBLE! I ordered bacon, egg, and cheese muffin with American fries and my boyfriend got the french toast. What actually come to us (mind you there were 4 customers in the whole place so getting an order right should be pretty easy) anyways what came was literally just an egg with a slice of cheese and a smashed potato that was barely cooked. The french toast was literally just fried bread. No cinnamon or anything. And to top it off I was going to say something but the waitress never came to check up on us until she brought the check. Hunkering for a homecooked meal but not gonna make it yourself? Eat here! Their chicken dumpling soup was so good the kids snagged mine. Thursday is corned beef and cabbage and I loved it! I even ate my vegetables. The meat was perfect - flavorful, tender and not too salty. Both the cabbage and carrots were tender and sweet and the potatoes were cooked just right. Have eaten many breakfasts here and an occasional dinner. This is a small eatery that makes you feel like you've been transported back to a 1950's diner. Friendly, helpful wait staff. Food is very good and they give you plenty. Coffee is a tad weak. read more

My husband was told the Cherry Valley Cafe had some pretty good food...unfortunately we didn't try anything. Upon entering the cafe we were told we could seat ourselves. All the tables were set for 4 people as well as the booths and since we like to sit in booths we took the last one available. Not long after sitting down a server came over and said she couldn't allow us to take up a booth that sits four people and that we would have to move. My husband pointed out that they were all set up for four people so what did it matter where we sat. She said "SHE", I'm guessing the owner or manager, was real picky about it and that we would have to sit elsewhere. We took offense to the way in which she spoke to us. We decided to leave and spend our money in another restaurant. If they were so picky about where people sit then I feel they should be seating the guests instead of allowing them to seat themselves. And, she could of said "we prefer you sit at one of the tables instead of this booth" she wouldn't have come off as a rude server. It's too bad we didn't get to try the food I'm sure it's good judging from the other reviews, we were just turned off by our experience with the server and choose to spend our money in Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, or Rockton and Roscoe. read more
