So much better than the flat burrito I had when they first opened. Bravo for the improvement. Definitely get that again. Glad I gave them another chance.

Wow!! I just found one of my go-to Mexican restaurants! A couple weeks back I was at a local bar…read morewith a few friends. We were talking about good, authentic Mexican restaurants around. The bartender overheard our conversation and emphatically directed us to La Carreta. Hammonton already has some of the best options for authentic Mexican food and now this one is right at or near the top of the list. The location is great. It's connected to Vinyl Brewing so you can get your food to go and enjoy a beer next door (like I did), however the inside is very cute and welcoming. I love the decorations and the furniture is beautifully finished wood. They also have a few tables outside for dining on nice days. The staff was very nice, apologetic (even though they didn't need to be), and accommodating. I like how the menu is set up as it's very easy to follow. Now for the most important part: the food. Everything we ordered was incredible. Carnitas tacos, chicken burrito, Alambres, and el Toxico torta. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and made to order. The tacos are a La carte so you can order as many or as little as you'd like, and you can mix and match (for now at least)! The carnitas were tender and the tacos had raw and grilled onions. The portion sizes on the burrito, Alambres, and torta were huge and the price was more than reasonable. The Alambres was grilled steak, cheese, onions, and peppers and came with 5 homemade tortillas and rice. The burrito had a very nice sear on the outside giving the tortilla a great crisp. The torta (which I ordered) was great. Grilled ham, breaded steak, chicken, egg, avocado, onion, and tomato. There were so many things I wanted to try on the menu, but I knew that had to be my first order. I wasn't disappointed by any means and now I'm going to have to come back soon to try many more menu items.

Sometimes you've just gotta have a taco...am I right or am I right?! Well, just such a craving hit…read moreme at work the other day. Luckily, I pass by two taco trucks on the drive home from Hammonton, and I decided to give Tacos y Tortas La Carreta a try! Parking is an issue, if you come by way of vehicle. Use the lot if there's room, park on the street if there's not. Tacos y Tortas serves tacos and tortas (duh) as well as quesadillas and sopes. They also have horchata and Jarritos. Today, I ordered one taco al pastor, and one taco carnitas. Let me just say first of all, they get points for even having al pastor and lengua, so that's that. Also, the tacos are $1.50 each, and you can't beat that with a stick! The woman cooking in the truck was sweet and polite. I like that you can sit outside or head inside where there are several tables and a restroom. The food itself, well, I think I've been spoiled by Pancho's in Atlantic City. I found the pastor to be overly oily, and the carnitas to be a bit dry. The tortillas were warm, but not very soft, so I had to forgo them and just eat the meat. Probably most disappointing was that the cilantro wasn't very fresh. I was so looking forward to that savory, cilantro-y taste and smell, and unfortunately it just wasn't there. But, having taco trucks in town is super cool and a great alternative for workday lunch. I would definitely come back to try to quesadillas and sopes.

There were easily 6-7 customers in front of me, but I didn't wait long. The gentleman taking orders was fast and efficient! He handed out numbers to avoid order confusion. Each order was made to order, but the wait for my food was minimal. Two woman were in the truck preparing food fast and furiously! I ordered a beef taco and chicken sopes. The taco came on two soft corn tortillas, fresh cut onion, and cilantro. Why do I butcher the simplicity of tacos with sour cream, gauc, and salsa? This taco with three ingredients was amazing! The beef was tender with a mild flavor, the fresh chopped onion and cilantro complimented the beef nicely. No condiments needed! The sopes was on thicker corn tortilla with the edges turned up so the filling didn't fall off. It was packed with refried beans, seasoned chicken, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. While not as simple in flavors as a taco with three ingredients, it too, was amazing! The chicken was in a light red sauce, not dripping wet, but tender. It was hard to tell if the refrieds were fresh or not, but they tasted authentic either way. The lettuce was shredded thinly, and the dollop of sour cream was just enough, not too little, not too much. I will eat from Rosa's again!

The food was delicious. The seasoning on the chicken was perfect, and they are very friendlyread more

I will say that this is a seasonal truck though so be sure to check if they're open for the season or closed for the season before planning your meal. We got the regular cheesesteak with American and fried onions, "The Woo" which is a buffalo chicken cheesesteak, the Taco Cheesesteak, and Dirty Fries (cheese and gravy). We also had the regular fries which were excellent too. The regular cheesesteak was very good. Good roll and a good amount of cheese. A little more char on it than I typically prefer, but it didn't affect the flavor of the steak at all. The Taco steak was really interesting because it genuinely tasted like a cheesesteak and a taco both in one. I've had mashup's like this before where it still tastes like the original thing with a hint of the other, that was not the case. I could distinctly taste all of the attributes of a cheesesteak as well as a taco. The Dirty Fries were great. Fresh cut fries that were hot and still crisp under the delicious cheese and savory gravy. I'd eat these daily if I could. A good fresh cut fry is a thing of joy, and that's exactly what these were! Now for my favorite item of the day, "The Woo". Ric Flair himself wouldn't be able to hold back from belting out a massive Woooooooooooooooooo after trying this one. The fresh and real chicken breast (no puck nonsense), solid and sturdy roll, buffalo sauce, blue cheese...it was excellent. I've had MANY chicken cheesesteaks in my life and perhaps aside from making my own, this was my favorite. A homerun...or maybe a bodyslam?! In the South Jersey area there is a new place to grab a sandwich, and I think they're here to stay. Gio's Steaks in Hammonton, NJ - Didn't Suck!
