I called Mohammad at recommendation of one of my neighbors. I had a terrible water leak into my back door and back window due to the recent rains. My schedule was bad, and I was going to be out of town for a while, but he thankfully squeezed me in. He came, assessed and immediately knew that the problem was my gutter. We own a 3-family brownstone building in Hoboken with a skylight and flat roof. We recently had a pretty serious leak after a big snowstorm leading to ceiling collapse in one of our tenant's apartments, requiring not only the exterior roof to be repaired but also interior of the apartment. I called around to several roofing companies for emergency quotes including SAS. As soon as Mohammad from SAS arrived I knew it was going to be different. He was not only on time but early! He was thorough, polite, and was able to give me a rough estimate on the spot. He also got back to us same day with an official quote, where as we had to chase the other contractors down for their quotes for several days. SAS was the most competitive and affordable quote, which actually surprised me because based on their professionalism and track record I expected them to be the most expensive. He also quoted the quickest timeline saying he could have all the work done inside and out in 2 days. Given there was a collapse and my tenant's apartment had a hole in the ceiling, we needed the work done ASAP. He told me the crew would arrive at 9am and they were there on the dot! His crew was so polite and respectful to my building and the tenant and her apartment. They were incredibly efficient and clean. SAS also replaced our old leaky skylight and they installed a beautiful custom skylight in its place. We had researched what type of roof we would need and the proper materials. SAS not only used all the proper materials but also upgraded us to premium materials for no additional charge. They didn't cut any corners, did exactly what they quoted, and then some. We had to leave them to finish the work on Easter Sunday and wouldn't be home before they left so I put a lot of trust in Mohammad to complete the job, clean up, and lock up the apartment and building when done. When we came home and we're amazed how everything looked. On the outside the roof looked spectacular, perfectly sealed and covered, everything done correctly. And on the inside it looked like they had never even been there, which is what we wanted. Everything was buttoned up, painted, and perfect. And the common area and inside of the tenant's apartment was cleaner than before they had arrived! I have never had a contractor be so thorough in work and clean up. I was so happy to hear SAS is a full-service contractor, not just roofer and will definitely be using SAS again to complete other work in our building. Mo was great to work with. He was very responsive and helpful and went above and beyond to help us with our brickwork and the roof. When we discovered hidden issues in the roof, they took care of it with no hassle. When the first round of paint stripper didn't quite do the job, they did a second round without question. Worth the price. There was a small problem with some damage/cleanup from the stripper (bunch of goop/overspray ended up in our garden and there was some damage to the neighbor's stucco because it was really bad stucco in the first place) but I think Mo's hard work to fix it justify a 5 star review anyway. Even after the work was completed, there was an issue that I needed to check on and Mo came by to look at it and give me advice for free. He replaced the hatch and ladder to our roof, the marble saddles at our front door, and repaired the iron and stone work on a decorative balcony. Mohammad did a project for me a few years back and did ok work. Since then I have contacted him for other projects and the customer service is extremely poor. He does not respond to messages. On several occasions I will text him for an estimate, I may get an initial response then after that he ignores my messages. I understand people are busy but you need to be able to communicate with your customers. I shouldn't have to text you 5 - 6 times over the course of a week hoping to get a response that usually never comes. I rather you just tell me you are unavailable until a specific date. I saw several other reviews on yelp describing the same customer service I received. Do yourself a favor and shop around as there are lots of other good contractors serving Brooklyn. Mohammad seemed very professional and knowledgeable the first time he came to discuss the project. We hired him to do several different pieces of work, including working on our gutter, fixing the rear facade, installing the lintel and other work. Based on the initially conversation we gave him a 50% deposit. When it was time to do the work, Mohammad did not show up. Instead, he sent his cousin who did really poor work. After only completing a couple of the items on the list, we pointed out that a number of mistakes and obviously poor workmanship. The company argued with us, saying that the look didn't matter, only the functionality. However, this was the rear facade of our house, and it was ridiculous how bad it looked--no one could argue that this was the work we paid for. In the end he said if we didn't like his work, he would give us money back because he never completed half of the work (after we paid for half up front). However, we never got any money back and he just stopped responding, pocketing the money after doing far less than half of the work, and doing it extremely poorly. read more

I strongly recommend avoiding this roofer. They came to my house to repair a leak in our roof in April. The next time we had rain, the leak was worse. They came back again and again. Months later, we still had a leak directly under the repairs they did. In the middle of the night, it broke through the ceiling in my daughter's bedroom and caused a mess of water and broken plaster. They claimed it was a different problem and refused to return. Then the owner told me to "go find another roofer." I did, and the roof is now fixed. I believe this company started the job with the best intentions, but they did not know how to fix my roof and became frustrated. I am filing a claim against them. read more

We hired SAS in May to repair a leak in our condo roof after a heavy rain storm. We received a detailed quote for $7k which outlined the waterproofing repairs (including sealing, metal flashing, pitch pockets, etc). The price seemed high, but we went ahead expecting professional results. The work was completed quickly, but not as thorough as the quote detailed. Some of the sealing was visibly missed, which we pointed out during the final walk through. This review is for SAS and his brother! Where do I begin... SAS and MBH (brother companies) were very professional. I had a tenant sign a new lease and had to delay their move-in due to a leak (flood) coming from the ceiling. I had a minor heart attack!! There was so much water coming into the apartment from so little rain! This needed to be resolved ASAP. I contacted a few companies via yelp for quotes. The first company to arrive on scene gave a low ball estimate and didn't really explain what was going on (Hint if it's too low they will start raising the price in the middle of the job). Another company came and sent me the estimate 2 weeks later (the job was already done)!!!! SAS (this little guy) came and not only the price was right, but they wanted to help me ASAP before the next storm (2 days later). The man asked me to text him the address and that someone will contact me to setup an appointment. No one ever contacted me while I know that they read the message. I requested a quote using the Google form for which I received a confirmation of my request but no answer. A few days later I called again, no response. Called last week again and the person said he has my information already and someone will call me right away. Guess what, no one ever called. If I could have a negative review for this business then I would. Very unprofessional. It was stated by owner below that his representative called me a couple of times and I didn't pick up. Someone called me with the phone rang once and that was it. I called back and left message. No one called multiple times so this is a lie. In three days, they took off the layers of old roofing, replaced wood beams that were bad, gave me a brand new flat rubber roof, insulated with a silver coating on the roof, gave me a new hydraulic roof hatch and skylight. Superb workmanship, careful attention to detail, quality materials & true dedication (e.g., little or no breaks during 6 1/2 hrs. of constant work in 90 degree weather).
