To my surprise and relief the cause was a missing plastic cover that was on the roofs powered exhaust vent. It had blown off during Fridays storm. Luckily my tenant had stored the cover but did know what it was. The vent with the cover on looks like a mushroom. On Sunday, I used Angie 's list to located a Staten Island roofer since my Brooklyn guy had not yet called back and I didn't want to risk another rain storm. The first contractor that called was already talking about replacing the exhaust vent at about $1600 for the job I cut him short since I only wanted a cover replaced. I said this is not looking good . Good bye. About 5 minutes later Marke calls me I got lucky, real lucky in finding a guy that did not try to cheat me. I told him all that was needed was to replace the cover. I texted him the photos of the cover. He stated that he could possibly fix the cover once he takes a look at it. It may be hard to find a replacement. At 10am he arrived at the house with his father. (Once he said that was his father, I knew I had the right guy) He inspected the roof and confirmed he could do a decent repair. He showed me pics of the roof vent. No need to change it. He used metal strips and screws to attach the cover. Then he placed ice/water shield and adhered it to the cover. He took pics again after the repair. The price was very reasonable The honesty was superb The time arrangement could not have been better. I paid cash and he later emailed me an invoice as I had requested. He is a good man who works with his father and since he did not steer me wrong, I decided to give him an excellent review!! I hope you call him if you ever do need a reliable and honest roofer. As a first-time homebuyer experiencing an ongoing leak, I weighed my options for a roof repair with several roofing contractors. What stood out about Jon and his team was their positive reviews and responsiveness. An estimator came to my home in less than 12 hours for a free quote and more importantly, provided insight to where the water was coming from and options to remedy the problem. Based on my conversations I decided to go with a small, repair job. When the roofers began their work, the situation evolved into something more serious. The one thing that I'm angry about is that when he put his ladder to look at the gutter he actually made it worse. He banged on the my aluminum gutter so hard that it bent. I was on the roof watching him do it. When he climbed the ladder he said my gutter was bad and that is bent... and then i told him that it was straight until he banged his ladder into it and he replied that there was no other way to get his ladder up without doing that. At the moment I didn't think much of it and so today i had another person give me a second opinion and told me that the other person should not have bent my gutter with his ladder like that. Adhesion testing showed that the coating had been applied over a poorly prepared and locally damp substrate. Moisture had spread through the fiberboard below, making another coating unreliable. The owner chose to remove the liquid membrane and the older roofing underneath it. Removal required more hand work than an ordinary sheet-membrane tear-off because the coating thickness varied considerably. Once the concrete deck was exposed, it was cleaned of residue and allowed to dry. Damaged areas around two abandoned pipe openings were repaired and filled. New tapered insulation corrected ponding along the center of the roof. A high-density cover board provided a consistent substrate for a two-ply modified-bitumen system. Reinforced base flashing was installed at the parapets and stair bulkhead without relying on the remaining coating. The occupied storefronts stayed open, with removal scheduled before their busiest hours. Coating fragments were vacuumed from the roof, setbacks, and sidewalk enclosure. The finished assembly passed drainage and adhesion inspections before the project closed.

Eden Goldenberg never showed. I was awarded the total amount by the judge (4K+ court costs).
