I was at a department store when I saw this simple, cute dress that wasn't even lined and it cost $150. I thought "I can make this myself" and that's what I decided to do. Mind you, I can barely sew a hem much less make a dress, but I was determined. I took pictures of the dress, the tags, went home looked it up online, saw the type of fabric used and found a pattern that closely resembled it. What else did I need other than skill set to make it? I then went to SAS Fabrics. They have such a huge selection of fabric. I spent hours in there just perusing through all of their inventory. The ladies could tell I had no idea what I was doing but they couldn't have been any nicer, extremely helpful and gave good advice. They showed me where to find the Jersey matte fabric, the polyester material for the lining, zippers and the special elastic I needed for the sleeves. All in all, I walked out of there spending a grand total of $60 for everything. I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend, watched a couple of YouTube videos and locked myself in my spare bedroom for weekends at a time making these dresses. Thankfully, I bought extra material in case I made mistakes (and I did - plenty of them). I finally had to call in a friend who knows what she's doing and she supervised me until the dresses were complete. With the extra material, I was able to make shirts for my pup. While the dresses aren't perfect (they're a little wonky here and there), I will be wearing them come spring and summer. I was proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and attempting something new. One of my New Year's Resolutions for 2025 was not to be complacent in any aspect of my life, to learn - challenge myself, grow and I did just that. Needless to say, I won't be giving up my day job to become a dress designer but I'm satisfied with my efforts and the final product. I would absolutely go back to SAS and highly recommend them for any fabric needs - they have it all. The pricing is much better than Joann's, especially the sales rack, you can spend $5 or $6/yard. First time in the store after not finding what we needed at Joann's Fabric. This store is amazing. First, I love supporting small mom and pop stores and this definitely felt like one. They have so much fabric too, a variety that rivals Joann's. There's bolts of fabric sold by the yard, fabric sold per pound, upholstery fabric, bargain bins with fabric for $1.99/yd. Someone recommended I check this place out, and walking up I was a little concerned because it didn't look like the nicest store front, but when I went inside it had a TON of fabric options. First off, this isn't your standard brand name fabric store. This store is more of an Aladdin's cave where you can wander the aisles and hunt for treasure. It's been a part of the community for a long time, and it's a great place to chat with fellow crafters as you dig through bins of buttons. They have a few sections in the store where the fabric is $3-4 per pound of fabric by weight! I have found some stunning remnants in these sections that are 8+ yards long. Don't expect mass amounts of fabric printed with TV characters - instead they have great selections of furniture fabrics, Ankara and fabrics for party decorating. Their lace trimmings section is huge as well. It can get a bit busy waiting to get measured and cut, but the staff all try their best to work quickly, and are always friendly. read more

Saw someone refer to this place as "paradise" and I have to agree! I have taken up sewing garments quite seriously these past few months and was able to find the cutest fabrics to suit my style. I started out shopping at Joann's, but ever since I was recommended this place, I may not go back! SAS fabrics, I believe, is an outlet-- so shopping here is a more sustainable option than at other fabric stores. Although they may not carry "current" and "modern" prints, they still have quite an impressive selection and I am super excited to use up the fabrics I've purchased from here. It is definitely a little less organized, but the prices can't be beat, and it just feels much more satisfying when you end up finding a beautiful print among a bunch of other fabric. read more

While they have a wide range of fabrics and reasonable prices, please be aware to check your bag(s) before leaving. I'm never the type to even write reviews but this one struck a nerve. During checkout, they normally have a few people behind the register. One is measuring your stuff out and the other is checking people out at the register. I went to buy 6 yards of fabric along with little bundles of flowers varies colors and two small cases of white little flowers with 6 of them in there. Plus 10 yards of 4 inch wide burlap. This is just for context and in case this store does see the review and remembers who I am. I don't how this wasn't communicated between them but they gave me a slip with my order and then I went to the register to another lady. This is where I feel like they messed up. Not only did the lady charge me, but she never looked at the order slip she had on her end to make sure she had the correct order with the right number of items on there. So I trusted she gave me what I paid for. I left home and as I was settling in, I looked at the bag thinking the smaller stuff got wrapped inside the large fabric. Nothing was there at all. I called but they aren't accepting phone calls right now. I decided to immediately go back. This is where I know this is pet peeve borderline just not okay. I went back and their response was to laugh it off and be like yeah you left your bag. Where I'm like, no, you didn't give to me. The counters are high up and have stuff on them so you can't really see when they are bagging your order. I told her that I even went home and had to make that trip back there. She just kept laughing. When it comes to customer service, businesses have make to sure that the customer leaves happy especially when they were in the wrong. I take part responsibility of not checking my bag but in a situation like that where there is a second person who is suppose to double check your stuff, that shouldn't have happened. To top it off, I wasn't even laughing and I just got my second bag, turned and left. Because at that point, what can they do? Give free stuff or perhaps give some back money for the gas and time I won't get back? I wasn't in the mood to return stuff either. No, I'm going to warn everybody on here to double check their stuff because imagine you live far away and you spent money on this place to only find out you don't have the stuff you bought? Or that you got someone else's bag since they didn't check the order slip. I'm human and so are they and can understand that things happen. I would've given this so place a 5 star but, due to this experience, I needed to say something. Maybe some extra stuff from what I bought would've been nice and I wouldn't have spent more time writing this out. It's just so hard for me to ask for free stuff since I'm usually the "understanding, nice" customer that doesn't like to ruffle any feathers. But you a reach a point. Plus I have arthritis and fibromyalgia so driving in itself is hard for me. That was just the cherry on top. I'll be back since this is a fabric store that I like but I will tell them in person when I'm not irritated. read more

This is what I would consider a small shop store even if it's not so small. They have a great selection of materials for many sewing or decor or hobby projects. Not many of these around aside of Michaels and Joanns that have small selection and those stores are big chains. The lady who help me was great ! Helpful and sweet! The prices are good, I needed a sample the minimum amount of fabric you need to purchase is 1 yard. It appears to be remnants maybe from factories. Bought by the pound today from their fabric selection which is something I've done only once before. Make sure if you need 60" wide material you check it before you have sales associate ring up your merchandise. When I got home and measured my fabric I noticed there was a cut out near the edge of my fabric, making it less than 60". I asked sales associate if the fabric was all 60" wide. She did answer me. This is my favorite fabric store in the LA area. I am a costume designer and I'm often looking for unique and unusual fabrics on a budget. SAS is always my first stop when I'm shopping for a show. They have an excellent selection of all kinds of fabrics, trims and notions. This is a very different store than Jo-Anns. They carry a very limited selection of patterns and thread. They have a very small parking lot in back of the store. People sometimes park where there really isn't a spot and sometimes it can be tough be get in and out. I try to park on the street whenever I visit the store. Street parking is free. read more
