Prompt and courteous service is what I expect and Off The Bolt hit the ball out of the park. They reupholstered our sofa and sleeper and both look great! Wait time to order the fabric and time to perform the labor was faster than we were quoted. Pick up and delivery was also spot on, extreme care was give to our furniture when it was picked up and delivered. Being this was the first time we had any furniture reupholstered I wasn't sure if we made the right decision, but decided to move forward after we went furniture shopping. Having our old furniture returned to us better than new was way more than we expected and we are thrilled with the decision we made and the company we chose. I'm so very happy with my experience using Off the Bolt. I had an extremely small piece of 1960s velvet upholstery fabric and wanted to see if I could make some pillows. Zoe was an absolute pleasure to work with and helped me pick out the perfect backing fabric to maximize the fabric that I have. I was hoping to get at least two from the piece but they worked their magic and was able to make three from it. Having this be a sentimental fabric, it was nice to know that it was in such capable hands and I got the very best possible outcome. Love this store! In the heart of the west valley industrial center is this gem of an upholstery shop. I needed a few down pillow inserts for my accent pillows. The ladies were very helpful, got the right measurements and the order was filled in just a few days. They even stuffed them for me upon pick up which was a nice touch. I found the price to be less than on line stores too. They also have a non down version which feels like down if down is not your thing. read more

Unbelievable situation with this company. I learned last week - when my sofa was in their possession to be recovered - that they were closing this business for good at Christmas. I asked if my sofa would be done prior to closing and was assured it would be returned to me on Monday. Monday came and went, no sofa. I called and was told it would be to me Wed or Thursday. On Wed at 4:30 I contacted the store and was hurried off the phone with the promise that my sofa would be delivered after 5p this very night. By 10pm I gave up and went to bed. No sofa every arrived. Eight phone calls the next morning went unanswered. I drove to the location and it was boarded up. Still no sofa. So they have taken my money and my sofa. the sofa in question is not something I can just go purchase again. The money they have is close to $2,000. I've spoken to my credit card company to put that in dispute. all well and good...but I'm out an amazing sofa that works in a room no other sofa has been able to. Merry Christmas to me, right? I try to believe that people for the most part are honest and good. But there has to be something going on when a mom and pop has been in business all these years with good reviews and then basically steals from a customer. I don't even care if they never started the project. Just bring me back the sofa and I'll go somewhere else. Int he meantime, I have reached out via an email address I had for them and hope someone sees it. I will make a police report on the stolen item although we all know that'll go no where and I have my team looking into who owns the building they were renting because I'm hoping my sofa is sitting inside just waiting for me to rescue it. POOR Craftsmanship!!! I had my sofa, love seat, ottoman and dinning chairs reupholstered by them. The craftsmanship is SO bad I would give them a NEGATIVE 5-star if there is such rating. The installation people were lazy and unprofessional. After I complained, they sent the workroom supervisor to my house to evaluate the problem. He basically told me that everything looks the way it's supposed to be. After I argued, he only agreed to redo one piece and the craftsmanship was still horrible after the rework. I had my furniture reupholstered for the real estate I owned several times over the years. I NEVER once had such a bad experience as I had with The Bolt. They are a complete rip off and do not stand behind their product. 1. Product was built to wrong specs, they wouldn't fix it 2. They told us material would be at cost, we knew the cost and they quoted us more than double the price. 3. We needed certain protections of our furnature which they wouldn't give us. 4. We chose to have someone else finish the job and they are now holding our money. The refund for the unfinished material includes made up charges we never agreed to. Hmmm... what to say about this place. First of all, I was excited when this place opened... since I thought it would be another place to forage for fabrics... but in the valley...and close by...and not Joanns! Sadly, this place is not the place for me. It's perfect for upholstery or home decor fabrics... (as they have a pretty large selection of these) but not for just regular cotton prints. Although, you pay much more here (things were an average of $25-35 a yard) than you would downtown... but then again, you don't have to face the traffic and just overall deal with the whole "downtown scene" I was also told that they would have some Kokka fabrics from Japan... but alas, they didn't. They did have some cute fabrics... but again, I can do nothing with them. Sad. On a side note: I do think they carry that sunbrella fabric...which is notoriously hard to find. read more

I had looked at several fabric stores and upholstery stores and couldn't find what I wanted before my friend told me about off the bolt. they gave me a sample of material that was perfect. my main issue was I needed them done the same day. Christina checked with mike and he said they would do it for me. I dropped the seats off at 9:30 a.m. and they were done by 1:00 p.m. the same day, and they look great. I found Off The Bolt from Angie's List, where it has very high ratings. It was very convent ly located near my office. I didn't even look at Yelp until after having a delightful visit to Off The Bolt. I work in numerous design and buying capacities and work with top architectural designers in the Office Real Estate realm. I read numerous design publications and feel I have some experience in field. Here's what I experienced: 1) Met with Sylvia who listened to what I was looking for and directed me to several appropriate design books for two chairs that very badly needed re-upholstering. My cats destroyed one antique chair, and the other had very sexy, yet faded, mid-century fabric and needed new pillows inserts. I selected five books, including some beautiful Kravet fabric right out of Architectural Digest. I did not want AD prices for my reupholstery needs. Until I met Sylvia, I had never had any luck in fabric stores. No one could translate what I wanted like she did. 2) Sylvia helped me the next day with my order and explained the fabric I wanted had an 8-week lead time. No problem. She explained how much fabric I needed with drawings. The fabrics I looked at were between $40 and $87 a yard, and I went on the high end. A $200 difference on 9 yards of fabric is fairly meaningless when you reupholstering high-end furniture. I left a 50% deposit. They picked up my chairs exactly when they said they'd be at my house. The pricing was very reasonable. 3) I received a call about three weeks later the fabric was in (several weeks ahead of schedule); and two weeks later, right on schedule, the chairs were done. I talked to Zoe. She was very polite and helpful. I visited my chairs at the factory and was happy with the results and laid the difference. 4) The chairs were derived exactly in schedule. 5) The chairs look great. The antique chair was very complex and needed some rebuilding. The one with the new cushions is a tad firmer than the ~ 50 year-old cushions I used to have. I am getting used to them. May want to specify how firm I want them the next time I do this. 6) The photos on their website are not showing particularly wonderful fabric. I found they do have higher-end designer fabric. read more

I had an elderly roommate earlier this year who had a birthday coming up and I wanted do something special for her. She had been telling me about a small ottoman she had in storage that had been in her family for over 100 years that was in disrepair. I took the ottoman to Off the Bolt to have it re-padded and upholstered. I wish I would have taken before and after photos, because it turned out better than I could have hoped! I was on a quest to find just the right fabric to upholster our chaise longue. The finely built piece of furniture had served us well and the fabric was now completely worn out in places. I thought it could be a DIY project during the pandemic and started to remove the old fabric, only to realize that it would be impossible to try and upholster the chaise longue myself. After a long search for the right fabric and calling many fabric/upholstery stores, I decided to visit Off The Bolt on Bahama St. in Northridge. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and assisted by a lovely lady named Marcia. I tried to describe to her what type of fabric, color, look and feel I ideally would like and she very skillfully presented about half a dozen choices. There was a deep blue velvety soft chenille that caught my eye and I knew I trusted THEM to re-upholster our chaise longue. From start to finish, the job was completed in 4-5 weeks. Two gentlemen delivered the completed chaise longue and it was beautifully crafted. The foam had been replaced, the chenille fabric was perfectly draped and neatly folded around each curve of the chaise longue. The design is tufted and every button is expertly stretched through the seat. OTB did an outstanding job and is from now on my go to place for anything home decorative/ fabric related. This review is very overdue...our interior designer used the services to reupholster a large sectional. They did a nice job On the fabrics portion but only replaced the foam insert on two of the three sections. For what they charged it should have been done correctly. My fault for just letting it go but now that I'm home every time I sit on the sofa and sink into the indentation I get annoyed. Bottom line, check everything before you pay final amount. They told me it would be 3 weeks and it took 2 months, during which time I called them and they couldn't find it or they'd tell me they would call me back and never did. When I finally got it back they had changed the pattern and placement of seams so it no longer matches what I have. I am so unhappy with them I will never go back. read more

I am so happy I found this business. I absolutely love the work they did on my sofa cushions. I had a custom sofa made at a business in LA and everything but the back cushions came out great. I should have made the business take them back and fix them but it was a big hassle so I lived with it for a couple of years and hated them. Someone at another custom furniture shop recommended me to Off the bolt and they did a fantastic job in redoing my cushions they way they should have been done in the first place. First I want to say that they did a great job reupholstering my couch. However, their professionalism is greatly lacking. I went in, picked fabric, gave a deposit, and Christina told me it would take 2 weeks to get the fabric in and then they'd call to pick up the couch. 3 1/2 weeks later, I called to ask what was up. Sally said they are so busy, that they don't have time to call everyone everyday to give them a status update (which I thought was a really rude thing to say). I told her Christina said it would take 2 weeks and she said no, it normally takes 3. She never apologized or said she would talk to Christina. I had to ask her to. Then she said it was actually going to be another 5 1/2 weeks because there was a delay with the manufacturer! They called me after 5 1/2 weeks and said the fabric was in their store and wanted to pick up the couch, which they did. I was in the area 2 days later and went in to ask for a small fabric sample. The woman said the fabric was locked in the truck and she didn't have the key. That sounded strange, but OK. 12 days later I called to ask when the couch would be done, because they'd said a week or two. Zoe tells me the fabric is NOT at the store and so they haven't even started working on the couch! When I questioned her further, she said she'd have to check and call me back. She didn't. The following day, I called and asked for a manager. Marsha wouldn't give me the manager's name, but said she herself could help me. I asked her to find out what was really going on with my couch and she said the fabric only arrived 4 days prior (Friday) and the couch would now be ready the end of the week. They finally did the couch and delivered it the following week. It was an extremely frustrating experience and I won't do business with them again. read more

I called Riviera Upholstery and asked for a quote for my sofa to be redone and after long boring speil i was given some outrageous price so I googled other places and OFF the BOLT came up and since it is on Angie's List I called them and was given a reasonable price. So I went and picked out the material and contrasting welting. I was told it may take apprx 6 weeks from ordering of material and completion of sofa. It's been only 1 month and 1 day. It looks beautiful! So pleased. I recommend you go to them first. Now I'll have them make some matching pillows for me. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I highly recommend NOT using this place. since there were not many fabric store in my area I felt like I had not choice but to use them. Here was my experience on my large order that was placed. 1. They don't get back to you when they say they will and you have to continually call them to get answers, even when you have told them you are ready to order something. 2. I price shopped with other places and they were hands down the most expensive around, charging you extra for things and not willing to make any deals. Fabric was more money, Labor was more money, Delivery, Shipping you name it. 3. They have an attitude and are down rite rude when you ask them to do simple things like find out shipping information or sending you a receipt for phone orders, or getting you samples to take home. In my opinion it doesn't matter how good the quality is if the customer experience is this painful, disrespectful and awful its not worth it to shop there. I wonder if this is why there Oxnard store closed down, people caught on and got tried of this kind of treatment. A store doesn't survive without customers so it is important to bend over backwards and treat your customers with gratitude. read more

I'm going to start off by saying that I am relatively new to the yelp world and up until this point I had a lot of faith in the legitimacy behind it all, however after visiting this establishment and then seeing the reviews I am starting to have my doubts. The Off the Bolt that I visited was phenomenal in their approach to customer service and they also delivered a more than satisfactory finished product. I had my sectional couch reupholstered in a fabric that I found amongst the hundreds of beautiful and unique samples on the showroom floor, the fabric I chose was something I had not seen at any of the stores I visited (no need to mention names, this is about OTB). One of the lovely ladies working the floor knowledgeably guided me to this perfect fabric and spent quite a bit of time with me going through various different options. I never felt like she wanted to get me and out as quick as possible, or that she annoyed by slow methodical approach to ensuring I made the right choice. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name to mention it, however i know it started with an "S" and she was an absolute delight to work with. Moving on, as I mentioned my couch was reupholstered and I couldn't possibly be anymore satisfied with how it came out. I was hesitant at first to embark on this process because I've had this couch for many years, but I can say with ease that it turned out better than I ever could have imagined. Mike (who is the owner) really took care of me and made sure that he covered every single detail before tearing away the old and creating the new. I knew I was in good hands, it was very noticeable that he has been in the industry for a long time and really knows what he is doing. Finally, I want to mention that even the delivery guys were extremely professional and gave off a very warm vibe. They were very meticulous in their approach to bringing my couch into the house, ensuring that they did not even come close to touching a wall, cabinet, or random object in their way. Sometimes delivery people can you make you feel uncomfortable or take a very careless approach, but not these guys. They deserved a big tip. Overall, I hope that people will not be fooled by the somewhat "fishy" yelp reviews for Off the Bolt, any person with common sense should immediately take note of a bunch of negative reviews splattered all over the front of their yelp page, but then countless positive reviews hidden in depths of some filter....seems strange to me. We were referred to Off the Bolt from a family friend. Off the Bolt was top notch! We had bought a vintage couch and chair at an Estate Sale not in the best condition and Off the Bolt completely turned both in to brand new couch and chair. They are absolutely beautiful. We had then re-done with the idea being placed in our new home next year. We wanted them redone for a Western Saloon Bar décor. I could not find myself placing them in storage until our bar is ready. We got rid of our old living room furniture and replaced with our new vintage couch and chair. Off the Bolt Customer Service employees were great. I was not expecting them to turn out the way they did "BRAND NEW" and better looking than some of the Vintage Couches and Chairs that we've seen at Estate Sales. I've used Off The Bolt for a number of custom pillows and purchased a gorgeous ottoman from them while they were located in Woodland Hills. Was always happy and impressed with their customer service and their workmanship. Unfortunately, since their relocation the quality of both has been diminishing. The end result of my last visit was a poorly made pillow that was badly put together, uneven in its construction and had dark stains on the fabric that were not there when purchased. I ended up throwing it out. I only hope that this was a one off experience and not something that will be a repeat performance. I admit to being cautious about using them again. read more

I have had numerous pieces of furniture reupholstered at this establishment, cushions restored, chairs recovered with leather, and old chairs on wheels remade into fashionable statement chairs, formal dining room chairs.
