I've headed to DTLA in the past for fabric, but I wasn't looking forward to that for just 1 yard of black cotton. So I grabbed a GF and headed to Canoga Fabrics in Canoga Park. While I was at first a bit surprised at the small space, I quickly realized there was A LOT to offer. HELLO Joseph! I asked for black cotton and he showed me a sampling to check out while he finished with other customers. I found THE PERFECT SHADE OF BLACK! I just needed 1 yard, so Joseph got that cut quick as a whip, I paid cash, and out I went. $8 for a yard of 60" black cotton is VERY FAIR. Sorry I forgot to snap pics, I think I was delirious with delight at being able to tick this errand off my list! I now have a new fabric option for the rare times - yeah, like once a year - I have a project to complete. While there is a Public Parking lot behind Canoga Fabric, I parked at a meter on the street and fed in enough for 2 hours so we could check out a few other places I was surprised about along this corridor of Sherman Way. Cheers! "CC"

When I showed one of the employees the quilt top for which I wanted to find an appropriate backing fabric, he was bemused and said he had that weight only in white. She was a wizard at assisting us in choosing a cat-proof fabric to restore our beloved Room & Board sleeper sofa (it has the best sleeper mattress by far). Joanne has experience in cat-proofing with her own little critters, and she swore by the fabric that looked great after 7 years and counting in her house. It definitely gave us confidence, even knowing how destructive our little critters can be. Joanne was extremely responsive and most of our communication was accomplished remotely, but we also benefited greatly from visiting the office and going through fabrics. She gave us a competitive price that INCLUDED pickup and delivery, which is a rarity these days and made for an UNBEATABLE price. The sleeper sofa was no easy task for delivery, but Joanne's crew was amazing in bringing it back in pieces and reassembling on the spot! Perfectly done. The quality of the upholstering work is impeccable. Joanne's team did such a good job that we now know the areas where Room & Board skimped, as Joanne's team did not skimp! They went above and beyond, and somehow the aforementioned sleeper mattress is even MORE comfortable. I really can't say enough about the job Valley Upholstering did. They should give all furniture manufacturers a Ted Talk on marketing cat-proof products in the first instance.

They have a decent selection of upholstery fabrics at a "discount" however the service is OBSCENE. They have a system in which you can borrow fabrics and leave a credit card ,which they promise will not be charged unless the fabric has not been returned in the allotted time. They also say that they will call you before they charge your card. WRONG. They not only charged my card after I returned the fabrics but never called to say that they were missing the fabrics that had been returned. When I called to request documentation of this transaction they could not provide it and insisted I was wrong. The owner was rude and insistent that I was at fault, the staff was rude and hung up on me after four phone calls to request documentation. Still they were not able to show that the fabrics were not returned. There is nothing special about this store and given the rudeness of the staff and owner not worth your while. If you want great fabrics, you can get anything at the mart through a designer and still get similar prices. Several designers I know had had similar or other problems with the staff. Don't risk your time here.
