Sarver - Can't beat the wine or view - Wineries Near Me - Eugene, Oregon

Living in Eugene as long as I have, it is very nice (and very rare) to ever be surprised. That's why, on a recent wine tasting outing, Sarver stood out as a special treat. Sarver is a perfect example of experience and new blood: the pinot vines themselves are some of the oldest in the valley, while the vintners and the blends are nearly brand new. My personal favorite quaffs are their 2010 Rosé and the 2009 Petite Sirah, but there wasn't a wine I tasted that was a dud. Good wine is more than enough to get me to fall in love with a place, but the tasting room and patio offers more, imo, than any other tasting spot along the standard south valley loop. The views rival, if not best, those found at KE. Seriously. And the food is FANTASTIC. Not in the multiple-courses-served-with-dinner-rolls kind of way, but they assemble a plate of charcuterie that rivals anything I've had at a restaurant. They also bake fresh baguettes, and offer wood-fire pizzas (pear, blue cheese, and bacon, anyone???) -- at least during the summer months. I can't rave about them enough. Sarver should definitely top your "must taste" list on any SWV tour. read more

If I lived in Eugene I would not want to write this review because I wouldn't want anyone else to find out about this winery. The tasting room is perched atop a hill that looks out over the mountains, it's not only great for looking at but the view also allows for fantastic pictures to make your friends jealous that you went. We all did the wine tasting which cost an incredibly low amount of five dollars! For that we all got 6 more than generously sized samples of wine. The portions were all so big that we were all pretty tipsy after sample number 4. We also ordered some cheese which came with some olives and sliced fruit, just like the wine the cheese was delicious and a great deal. Sarver is a lovely winery close to Eugene that truly has an amazing variety of great quality wines. My absolute favorite summer wine is their sparkling Rose. Their Pinot Noir is also fantastic along with several other red varieties. It's definitely worth a trip to this cozy winery with beautiful views of the hills and valleys surrounding Eugene. They have a nice variety of charcuterie and a huge outdoor patio for warmer, sunny days. Definitely a great place to grab a glass, sit back, and relax. read more

Since being in Oregon I've been working my way around all the wineries. After being in California I've grown accustom to some beefy wines and for the most part have found things in Oregon to have more of a delicate touch. It's taken some getting use to. This place stands out. Put aside the beautiful hilltop tasting room with the deck overlooking the vibes and the cozy indoor space with couches and small tables that make you feel like your just enjoy a nice bottle of vino in your living room, yes, yes all that is good and great. Or the wonderful cheese selection with the cheese of the week that is always fabulous, or the great selection of food trucks that are a step above and pair great with whatever your drinking. Yes that is all there and it is all good, but the VINO, oh bless the gods it is gooood. This is a breath of fresh air to my big bold red loving heart. You know when your wine tasting and your just feeling like yea that's ok, that's fine, alright, and then mmmmm. There it is. These guys are doing it right. Nice looking vineyard, not exceptional. We got here today to find the (tiny) tasting room completely full, not a free seat left. Since this was a wintery afternoon, not at all tourist season, we kind of suspected this place is used by locals as the only bar in the area. Anyway, we stood around for quite a while, with no sign of any seats opening up soon, and no staff to be found. Nobody behind the bar, or serving, or anywhere else that we could see. Finally after getting tired of standing around waiting with nothing happening, no acknowledgment or service, we just left. On our way back to the car someone ran by us who may or may not have worked there but who did not greet or acknowledge us either. Rather disappointing since we'd driven an hour to get here, it was specifically our goal for the day as it is the only vineyard in the area we'd never been to before. Their loss I guess, we left the last vineyard we visited with six cases. I don't think we'll be back to this one, and we recommend skipping Sarver in favor of the larger vineyards. read more

Love this vineyard!! Beautiful views without the crowd and pretentious attitude of other places in the area. Delicious selection of Pinot Grigio for a summer day and bold Pinot noirs. We have been here several times and I hosted a bridal shower here. The owners and all the staff are very nice and knowledgeable. I haven't tried the pizza but it sounds delicious. They have a wonderful selection of cheeses, meats, and bread. I highly recommend the fig/olive spread with chèvre and a loaf of French bread. read more

Our tasting server at King Estate suggested we swing by here. So glad we did. It was empty on a Wednesday afternoon, even on a beautiful day. Apparently it is more packed with locals in the evening, but with a beautiful view and amazing wine that isn't really distributed anywhere, we found this place a treat. Stopped in to enjoy a sunny afternoon on my vacation, wanted to go somewhere other than my usual favorite spot. It was busy at the counter, so after a few minutes of waiting someone got with us. We were planning on having a tasting and grabbing a glass of our favorite to unwind. But after a server gave us our glasses and told us we would get 6 tastings, he walked away and helped 3 other customers, then continued to walk by, smiled at us but never gave as a tasting. We finally got one lady's attention and she poured the first taste and walked away continuing to clean. Never explaining the wine.... another 5 minutes after we finished we finally got our second taster. This pattern continued through all 6. Although the wine was good, and the view is beautiful, this place left a bad taste in my mouth! read more

Hands down my favorite Winery in the County. Great flights and selection as well as fantastic cheese and bread. The view is spectacular and on weekdays it is pleasant and very seldom crowded. This was one of three stops made on my first ever wine tasting. My brother was on leave from the Army base in Hawaii, and he had his girlfriend's convertible. IT was a perfect day for a tasting.We were feeling a bit peckish when we came here, and so we ordered a small tray of cheeses, meats and bread. It was delicious, and wonderful with the wine. The woman behind the counter was very helpful, even though I wasn't much for the harsh reds, she was kind enough to recommend a series of lovely white wines, as well as a few dessert wines. I enjoyed spending a Saturday on Sarver's beautiful patio overlooking rows of gorgeous vines and Eugene from a distance. Tasting is a mere $5 for a variety of fantastic wines. The women behind the bar are friendly and entertaining. My friend and I opted for some cheeses and salami with our pinot gris and noticed that several folks brought food of their own. Beautiful scenery is a major plus of this winery, and the wine isn't half bad either. If it wasn't for the incredibly rude staff I would enjoy the atmosphere immensly, but they ruin it. Not only was I overcharged (which I caught in the itemized receipt, a must here) but was charged again on my card TWO DAYS following my visit!?!?!? When I called to straighten out the situation I was told they would not credit THEIR mistake. Poor customer service all the way around, and a fraudulent charge... I've never taken the time to write a bad review but my experience at sarver winery today makes me want to write a review. I have never been refused to be served , especially before I've had a drink. But the server at sarver, cookie, had a big attitude after I had patiently waited almost 15 minutes for a glass of wine. When I had some questions she told me she'd be back after going to help a small group who arrived after I did. After I pointed that I had arrived before them she rudely said something and I asked if she didn't want to serve me, and she said after that exchange she wouldn't. If I hadn't driven all the way out there I would have left, but I instead asked for a manager who helped me. Not a good way to approach a customer who had patiently waited their turn only to be treated rudely when it was their turn read more

My husband and I absolutely loved this winery. The atmosphere is charming to say the least and the views were spectacular. The staff was very friendly and even took the time to offer us suggestions for the next part of our trip. The wine itself is delicious. What a perfect place to end a day of Wine tasting! This place is picture perfect!!! This winery/vineyard sits atop a beautiful hill overlooking the vines and the valley. Plenty of reds and whites to try and they even have a great cheese board selection with fresh bread. We came here for wine tasting and had a nice time. The server was very friendly! It was busy here and we felt it was understaffed (only one server). Nonetheless he did the best he could and treated us well. The wines were fabulous! The view from the back balcony was awesome! We bought a bottle of Riesling but was a little disappointed your tasting is not refunded with purchase. The tasting price was $7 which is also slightly high. My group arrived at Sarver's in the late afternoon on a Saturday. It was my birthday and our group consisted of several teachers, two nurses, a police officer, a caretaker, and various other community servants. Part of my group went in to order food and wine; two of my sisters, my husband and I waited outside to take a few photos. When we attempted to walk inside, a dark haired woman stepped into the doorway, physically barring our entrance. We were taken aback at her confrontational manner, but also ready to listen politely to whatever she had to say. And listen we did, while she admonished and chastised us because the large group before us was unruly (apparently). She went on extensively about their antics and said groups would not be welcome in the future because they did not "project the image" they were trying to convey. Please bear in mind, we had been there for about six minutes, and four of us did not even walk in the door before being lambasted and chided for the actions of a previous group of people whom we did not even know. I cannot attest to the quality of their wine because we left immediately and will not be back. It was unwarranted, rude, assuming, and not at all the "image" I wish to convey. read more

I have visited this winery several times and I love it! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They were quick to greet me, offered me a menu and told me about their wines as soon as we walked in. The view here is spectacular and goes beautifully with the wine, also spectacular. We were having such a great time and didn't realize they should have closed 2 hours ago, this being a Sunday, and they just stayed open for us. There were a few other customers lingering as well and yet we felt like the only ones there. It's a small tasting room with a nice open outdoor patio area. We've also been welcomed with our picnic there before and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon out in the grass just taking in the scene. This is by far my favorite winery in this area and I love that it's not a long drive from Eugene and a few other wineries. Love the wine, love the people! read more

Beautiful setting, even on a rainy Eugene day. The tasting room was full, with no empty seats our own tables. We stood at the counter for about 19 minutes before anyone asked if we wanted anything. Our son, who had been there before, asked about flights for all three in our party. W had to keep track of which wine we were on because we were served by so many different people. It was a bit confusing, and no one too really ask questions or get any info about the wines we were sampling. We've been to a few wineries in Eugene and elsewhere. I think the staff just wasn't able to handle the numbers. But the wine was good. Might try it again on our next visit to Eugene. read more

Chris and Erin Sarver are amazingly hospitable and terrific at wine-making! Their Pinot Gris varieties are impressively good. (You MUST try the Sur Lie!) They just released their first Cab, and OMG! It's fantastic! If you like good wine, you'll love Sarver's. They have a small, rather intimate tasting room and the most spectacular view in all of Lane County. I absolutely love this winery so much. Love the wine and love the view. My husband actually proposed to me out here. However despite how much money my family and I spend very consistently here, the lady with the red hair absolutely ruins every experience I've had out here. This last weekend was my last straw. I will not return because of her. You would think a nice winery like this would take pride in having a nice staff but to be honest half of them are pretty rude. This lady taking the freakin cake.
