Prime rib sandwich with fries.
Marc E.

Went to play bingo at Sarna's Classic Grill today with freands and decided to have lunch. I had the Prime rib sandwich with fries. Had a blast with bingo lots of laughs no I did not win. ( I never win) The sandwich was a little bland, I felt it needed more flavor. It did come with au just. To me it was also bland. The service was great, our waiter tended our group all the way to the end of bingo. I give them 4 stars on the food. 5 stars for service.

French dip with fries

Met friends here for lunch and then Bingo. I ordered the walleye sandwich with fruit. It was very good fish. There was a parmesan crusted on the outside and the fruit was a mixture of pineapple and melon. My husband got the French dip sandwich with fries. He said it was ok not a lot of flavor. We had a nice time visiting and playing bingo afterward. Our service was very good. Thank you

Pierogis - wow!

Met up with some friends here for dinner and drinks. The restaurant was clean and had a comfortable and cozy feel. Our server was friendly, attentive and our meal was served promptly. They had a variety of beers nice cocktails. I had the Maddie's Love Potion - coconut rum, pineapple juice and raspberry puree....so yummy! We had the nachos and pierogis for appetizers. The nachos were loaded with beef, salsa, guacamole sour cream and topped off with cheese - so filling and amazing! This was our first time trying pierogis and this was great! Getting full after all this, so we had the Asian Salad. It was one of the best salads we had! It was full of flavor and had a mixture of veggies, crunchy wontons, grilled chicken and this amazing peanut sauce. Just yum!!! Highly recommend this spot and we will definitely be coming back to try other items on their menu!

Went here for our weekly date night! It was a frigid MN evening but the ambience was cozy with the fireplace on. We tried one menu option from the menu and one of their specials! The Mac and Cheese was full of flavor! While my steak was a little undercooked for medium...I enjoyed the shrimp and mashed potatoes! They had great flavor. Decided to treat ourselves to their delicious chocolate cake for dessert!! Over all a nice experience!

Breakfast Buffet

I've been to Sarna's Grill a few times now, usually when other restaurants are too packed and I want a solid meal and a good drink. They have a nice-sized martini menu and some fresh signature cocktails, which are definitely the highlight for me. The vibe here is similar to other chain restaurants like Applebee's or Fridays, with a menu full of classic American fare. The portions are large, which is a plus, but the food itself is pretty average--not bad, just not particularly memorable. We've tried their breakfast buffet, which did the trick when we were hungry, and we've brought people here for lunch before as well. It's convenient, with easy parking lot access, but I'd probably stick to coming here for a martini at the bar and maybe an appetizer rather than a full meal. Solid for what it is.

Butter toffee Bundt cake

No lunch today meant an early dinner at this classic restaurant. Today was a great meal with dessert! I got here about 3:30 pm on a Monday and there were lots of others with the same idea! Monday is the day for an amazing steak special. For only $10, you get their Manhattan Steak with a side of veggies and a side of mashed potatoes. I tend to be a bit of a steak snob so I had pretty low expectations. This steak crushed those and rose to the top. I ordered it medium rare and that's exactly how it came out. Mashed potatoes were great as well. I don't order dessert often but today o got their weekly special of. The butter toffee cake with ice cream. So light and fluffy-almost like a delish pancake! Def recommend!

Plus with our spouses out of town it was a great excuse for a "boys night out" in downtown. Things were a bit quiet (it's January after all) but that was ok with me. We sat in a great two-person booth facing the huge bar. The restaurant features inventive cocktails so I had my usual when places have skilled bartenders-Markers Mark whiskey sour-made perfectly. The food menu features a lot of very reasonably priced fish and seafood dishes and some pricey steaks like a fillet for $88 (wow!). Sides are separate and they've got a long list of tantalizing starters too although you MUST try the amazing shrimp/avocado boats-4 crunchy little endive boats with a delicious ceviche-like mixture of tiny shrimp. Scrumptious!! And just a lite bite so you definitely have room for the fluffy grougheres with the fontina cheese dip. We tried the hanger steak-nicely prepared and the seared halibut with a Moroccan-style sauce-very interesting. For sides we loved the potato pave(square of scalloped potatoes) and the fried eggplant with a sticky honey bbq drizzle. Our server Dominica took excellent care of us a Carl did a nice job assisting-water glasses were always full (to me a mark of a well run place). Alas, as with all the spots on Washington parking can be an issue. They offer valet ($15) but I luckily found a spot on the street 1-block down. Definitely will be back soon.

We arrived around 5:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after opening. The room was dark, cramped, and louder than the small space can really support. The playlist was distracting, and the kitchen staff audibly singing along did not help the atmosphere. Service was well-intentioned but missed the mark. Our server could not tell us whether the main component of a dish was cucumber, fennel, both, or something else, which is a basic menu question at this price point. Timing was off throughout the meal, so if you are expecting polished, well-paced service, I would look elsewhere. The food was the biggest disappointment. I could see an attempt at creativity, but the dishes felt more confused than composed. Several flavors landed at extremes: too sweet, too spicy, or too heavy on fishy funk, without enough balance to pull them together. It felt like "fusion" without a clear point of view. Parking is also difficult in this part of the North Loop, so plan for a ramp, valet, or extra time and money. I would not return for happy hour, dinner, a hosted meal, or a special occasion.

It feels elevated without being overdone. It is definitely expensive for what it is. Both the wine and food lean high in price, but you're also paying for the atmosphere and overall experience. The menu is also a bit different in a fun way. The tinned fish selection stands out and isn't something you see often. The radish butter and bread was a highlight and absolutely worth ordering. The food is mostly good, although there is something missing still that could make this restaurant truly one of the best in the state. Still, it's a great night out, especially if you like Korean and/or Chinese food. Here's a rundown: The food: First and foremost, Minari has special menus to meet many dietary restrictions. Not just symbols on one menu, but different menus depending on your restrictions. That's amazing. We ordered off of the Dairy Free (DF) menu, which does include a lot of their dishes from the regular menu. The Szechuan Ribs were my favorite, they are exquisite. The KFC wings are good too, although they could have used a bit more sauce (I am used to Korean-style wings being pretty saucy). The pork jowl was good but did not have quite enough gojuchang flavor. The accompaniments that came with it were awesome, especially the sauces. The bonchon need some work; I would love to see more traditional bonchon, ours had a couple "fusion" type dishes that were a little too contemporary for us. The drinks: The Minari Old Fashioned was AWESOME, a great drink (and the rice cracker was great too). Highly recommend this. The service was some of the best in the metro. From entering (where the host stand will make sure you have appropriate menu(s)), to the server, who was perfectly attentive and very knowledgeable about every dish, including dietary issues, to the complimentary tea and birthday sparkling wine, I can't say enough about the service here. The only weird thing is the dim sum, I would actually just put the dim sum dishes on the menu and bring them out on demand. The ambiance was really nice, and the bathrooms were clean. The final thing I would say is that I think that Minari could benefit from making their Korean dishes a little bit more traditional...as I mentioned earlier, small touches like making the wings a bit "saucier," more gojuchang flavor on the dishes that feature it, and more traditional bonchon would all be great. Still, this is a phenomenal place to dine/drink in NE Minneapolis, and if you like Korean and Chinese food, you will not be disappointed!
