My son and I wanted some sushi, and we were in the area so decided to come here. I ordered the Green dragon rolls, they were good and got the job done lol. My son ordered the shrimp teriyaki bento box with the steam rice with an extra order of California rolls. He said his food was good. The restaurant is clean and spacious with ample amount seating if you want to dine in. The reason for the negative star, after fixing and packing up my food it was placed under the door dash/pick up orders and was just sitting there for a good ten minutes until the person who took my order realized it and called my order number. If I'm out and about near this area again and want a quick sushi fixed, I'll come back. read more

Service was fast & efficient until I got home and realized one of my meals didn't have any shrimp. Portion size is ok but it lacked what should've been included. Once again hangry got the best of me. My favorite sushi joint didn't open for two hours so what the heck Beef bento was okay. Mildly pleasant beef and rice. Salad was iceberg shreds without dressing, goyoza filling was savory but the edge of the dough was do hard I had to discard it like the crust of a Cornish pastie. The "California " roll was surimi without avocado and fell apart when picked up. Tea was a bag in a cup of hot water. So okay, filled the aching chasm and didn't make me sick. If you want some quick Asian food, this is the place. I've always driven by this location but never had a desire to try it out. One day, I decided to give them a try. Luckily, the menu was posted on the outside of the door for me to look over before I stepped inside. The food is decent. I ordered shrimp teriyaki with fried rice. It comes with veggies. I added a salmon avocado roll onto my order. I'm not one of those people that absolutely love sushi, so I was a bit meh about it but what the heck. I have tasted some good California rolls and was looking to expand my palate. So, the shrimp and fried rice was good. It wasn't the best I've ever had but I can see myself getting this dish again. Now that sushi...let's just say it's still in my refrigerator and I visited a few days ago. The salmon was raw. I wasn't prepared to eat raw fish. *sigh* Overall, my food was good enough to visit this Sarku Japan again. Who doesn't love food quick when they're pressed for time...or not? Chicken teriyaki used to be the best entree to buy here for almost $7. But lately, it's not recommended. The steamed rice is hard, and chicken is dry and over cooked. Half of the food was tossed out because it was unbearable. Also, service is not attentive. Customers are waiting in line to order while employees are busy socializing with their friends who did not buy anything. Better management is needed. 10/24/18 Update - Things have improved since my last visit. Steamed rice was cooked soft and chicken teriyaki was tender. Cashier was attentive and friendly. Sarku is pretty good. The server who took our order seemed like she wasn't having the best day and wasn't the most pleasant person to talk with. Food wise, I was pleased. We ordered the chicken bento box and chicken rice bowl with a side of mixed vegetables. Both were in a nice container and presented well. The chicken was tender and each came with extra sauce to put on top. The bento box also had California rolls and fried dumplings. I got a cup of water and it was obvious no one had drank water in a while because of the scaling (minerals) that were in the bottom of my cup. Overall the restaurant was pretty clean. read more

Simple and quick fast food service type of place. Pricing is around $7-8 for a plate of meat, rice and veggies. They have a few sushi rolls and most everything is made to order so nothing is just sitting. It's quick service type of food so don't expect anything on a grander scheme but it fits the bill for what it's worth. Food is flavorful, meat is tender and rice is always delicious on the bottom. I always ask for extra sauce which is free. I got chicken teriyaki --which is their staple-- and it's cooked on a hibachi grill with the vegetables and rice served at the bottom. Restaurant itself is clean and can accommodate plenty of people or big parties. This is also self service so you walk up to the counter to order, get your food when ready and refill your own drinks. If you like to be treated bad and argued at, this is place for you! My sister had my nephew's birthday here tonight...SO HORRIBLE. The manager was so mean to my family. My husband and I was 15 minutes late to the dinner so he made us sit at the bar (even though there were empty seats at the table next to us). He made his employees make us get up and when i asked him was that a policy, he so belligerent about it. We're not rowdy people so the fact that he was being argumentative was really astonishing. It was so bad, my husband was going to tell him a few words, but he stopped before he noticed. They also messed up my nephew's order at the table. The food tastes very dry and cheap. All the wonders of a mall food court Sarku, now in a restaurant. Actually though, I think not being in a mall food court is an advantage. The restaurant is quieter and more relaxing. Plus you get free self-serve refills on beverages. As for the food, I didn't think it was any different from what one would get at a mall food court Sarku but that is fine. As for parking, I had an easier time parking in the large lot behind the restaurant and entering via the back door. This shopping center can be quite busy at times. read more

I've been living in Laurel for almost 10 years, and never stepped foot into this place until a few weeks ago. I had always passed it in the town center, but just glancing at it, I wasn't really interested. I was looking for something different to eat, so I figured I'd just try it out. I'm so glad I did. I had no idea it was sort of a fast casual hibachi. I love hibachi!! Lol. I regret not discovering this sooner, but better late than never, right? I've been there a few times since I went in, and I've been sticking to the spicy teriyaki chicken entree. I usually either go with white rice as my side, or just load up on all veggies (it's a little less than $1 extra) with my chicken. It's been consistently good every time I've gone. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food in the container. I do want to try the sushi one day to see how that is. Also, don't forget to ask for the yummy sauce. Just had a late lunch here after leaving the Regal movie theater. The menu is not big so do not go here looking for hundreds of sushi rolls. I like the simplified menu. Made it easier to choose from. By far the worst Sarku I have had the misfortune of ordering food from. I ordered double chicken teriyaki over vegetables with the spicy sauce. I got home and it looked like a soup. It was drenched in liquid. The most disgusting teriyaki I have ever had. I've been eating Sarku in various states since the late 90s, and this is the only location I have ever been disappointed by. I've eaten sushi in many parts of the world, including in Japan. This was some of the worst I've ever had. The spicy tuna roll I ordered smelled fishy, but I thought I would give it a taste anyway. I took one bite and threw the entire plate in the trash. When I told the girl working at the front that the fish was bad, she asked if I would like them to make it again. Rotten fish x2? No thanks. No refunds was offered and no additional apology. The decor inside this place is ultra cheap and it smells like a cafeteria. The glass doors to the exterior were covered in greasy fingerprints and the table we sat at was dirty. This establishment isn't worthy of the classy-ish neighborhood in which it has set up shop. Maybe you'll get higher ratings in a trashy neighborhood in Baltimore? I suggest relocation. read more

Good for a fast meal. Quick, fresh and delicious. I usually have the teriyaki chicken/shrimp plate. The shrimp are a bit on the small side and they skimp you on them. But the chicken is good. Terrible customer service. I tried to call ahead to place an order for pickup but didn't get an answer. It was 45 minutes before closing so I stopped by after leaving another nearby store. When I walked in, the restaurant was empty and the employees were talking and cleaning the kitchen floor. I placed my order and while I waited, I decided to call to see if the phone was working. It started ringing and the cashier picked it up, hit the end button and turned around to continue chatting with her coworkers. Meanwhile the phone was still ringing on my end....unbelievable and bad for business when the restaurant is empty. When my food was ready, I grabbed it and I informed her that I had tried calling but she hung up the phone. My son has been trying to drag me in since they opened but i wasn't feeling it. Well the little tyke ( nineteen and bigger then I am) got his way. Basically a fast food Japanese place. The good: the place is clean and nice. The staff is friendly. The teriyaki chicken is moist and tasty. The tempura veggies and shrimp were rock stars. The food was hot and fast. The California roll exceeded my expectations for fast food sushi. The bad: no chopsticks!?! The teriyaki beef had a lot of inedible gristle. The parking is atrocious, the food was DRY! Not tasty either. Really? Dry noodles and barely there teriyaki sauce on the chicken. Horrible. To add insult to injury they skimped on the portions. I had to ask why they did not give us vegetables which came with the meal-they did not know,and just dumped some on the plates. They are higher in price than other Sarku's I have visited. This place did not have their A/C on, or any sort of ventilation, it felt like an oven in there--even though they assured us it was working. The seating in this location is very limited. Sarku is clean and bright. The staff is friendly. After that..... I ordered the Bento Box w/ beef. The rice was not good Japanese stick-together-able-to-eat-with-chopsticks rice and alittle dry. The beef had no real teriyaki flavor. The tempura was disgusting-just breaded and fried, not tempura. No nice clear dipping sauce for the tempura. They gave me a small container of cornstach thickened brown flavorless sauce. The sushi was blah. The salad was the best part. My friend got the Chicken Teriyaki. It was OK. Maybe I lived in Japan too long and have been to some real Japanese restaurants in this area. Won't go again!!! read more
