Bento box with noodles
Robin S.

This was a random decision to eat here while we were waiting on my glasses to get done. As soon as I walked in the menu board was at the top of the ordering area and there were a lot of different options. I decided to get the bento box option with noodles, salmon, and shrimp. This was like "quick" hibachi, for what it is it was pretty good and I wish we actually had one in my area. The bento box gave me different options on my plate and to me it was good.

My daughter put this spot on my radar for Happy Hour, and let's just say--she didn't steer me…read morewrong. We made the drive from DC to check out this sushi gem in Laurel, and it was absolutely worth it. Happy Hour runs from 4 PM to 7 PM, and the deals are the kind that make you want to come back again next week. Sushi is half-priced (yes, half!), sake is just $4, and shooters are $6. In this economy? That's a win. Do yourself a favor and grab a seat at the bar. Deidra was our bartender, and she was top-tier--attentive, friendly, and on point the entire time. You can tell when someone takes pride in their work, and she definitely does. Great service makes good food even better. Plenty of parking, strong drinks, fresh and flavorful sushi--no fluff, just facts. If you're willing to take a short drive for a solid Happy Hour that delivers on value and quality, this Laurel sushi spot deserves a visit. Sometimes the old-fashioned way is still the best way: good food, good prices, and great service.

The server was attentive and pleasant. It wasn't very crowded. In fact, no one was on the hibachi side. Most of the patrons sat at the bar watching the news. Oh, I had the Lychee Martini-delish! My cousin had a shooter (I don't remember the name). I treated my cousin for his birthday- two drinks, 6 different cooked sushi dishes and the fried chicken, with included 18% added, plus an added tip was exactly $73.00. For sure, I'd return. I'd even go by myself and have dinner at the bar. Very very Casual dress is appropriate. The only qualm is the reservation process. I emailed 4 days ago. I received an immediate response indicating that someone would call me back. When I didn't hear from anyone, I called last night. I was told that 2 people walking in at 5:30 on a Tuesday would be fine- it was.

I could've ordered that alone and been fine, but I was also craving sushi. I'm saving most of the fried rice and vegetables for tomorrow. The bento box was pretty good. The vegetables tasted very fresh (I love my veggies). The rice was a little sticky for my liking, but the shrimp was good and plentiful. The California rolls were standard, and the dumplings & spring rolls were both good. The only negative I have for those is that they did not include a sauce for them. Luckily I keep sweet chilli sauce in my fridge. The shrimp tempura roll was okay. It had a slight bitterness to it that I think is because it was fried in old oil. The bento box arrived piping hot, which I liked. This was after being the second stop on the delivery. Overall, I think Quickway Japanese is solid and I would order from them again if I want a quick sushi/bento meal.

Perfect crunch the sauces were yummy and the fried rice was good too! Sushi was good. Good prices too. So good I was saying i was definitely coming back for more and was abt to order the Jessup roll...and then THE BAD AND UGLY happened:I arrived around 9:06 PM. For context, the restaurant closes at 10 P. My original server was a very kind young lady Who served with a smile. Around 930 My original server was busy, so I called to the next one that I saw. She acknowledged me with an annoyed look then started mumbling something under her breath that I could not understand. I chose to ignore it. I asked for one more sushi roll and a cup of water. (After that i was going to leave) With an attitude and very aggressively she says "OK ok Jessup roll and a cup of water. What else?" Girly pop was VERY obviously annoyed and taking it out of me...a customer. I wasn't rude nor did i have an attitude until then. Had she said that "Unfortunately the sushi bar is closed and we're not taking any more Orders." I would've understood. However, she turned around and walked to the register, still talking angrily under her breath. So I told her to cancel my order and have someone else bring the check. I do not want her to come back to my table. She STILL came back over trying to offer some stale ass store bought cheesecake. I told her I don't want it to get out of my face. I don't like rudeness. Especially if it's unwarranted. I am a very kind person. I'm usually not rude to people, especially service staff because I know what they go through. But this girl and her nasty attitude pulled me out of my character this evening. I ALWAYS leave a tip for my server, but i was too focused on the rude girl and forgot to leave one for my original server. She was very very sweet and tried to check on me and i appreciate it. I'm sorry your coworker messed up your tip. Maybe rude girl needs to learn from her. Be kind. Being rude gets you nowhere. I doubt I'll ever go back.

There must have been a lot of takeout orders because from the time we ordered to the time we received our food, at least 40 minutes had gone by. He was light on the sauces for them, played to the fire trucks because they cheered for it, and offered extra on their plates of all the parts of the meal they liked the best. I loved how they did that for my kids, but I wished he would have added more flavor to my meal. I also, don't know that they even do this anymore, but I wanted a shrimp flung at my face to catch in my mouth, but that didn't happen. I do feel like this place is everything hibachi should be and it was an amazing experience as a family.

Unlike other Japanese restaurants I've been to, they have just a main room with an open layout for the hibachi. There is also a bar and sushi counter. There were 14 people in my party. My friend made reservations for 6:30. Upon arrival, we were informed there was a mistake with our reservations. We needed two tables so the girl's table was seated after approximately an hour wait. The boy's table took about 1.5 hours. The guys sat at the bar and ordered drinks while they waited. I ordered the Hibachi Sirloin Steak and Scallops with fried rice and Garlic Shrimp for my appetizer. Everything was flavorful. My favorites were the garlic shrimp which I've never had before and the steak as it was tender and not chewy. Service seemed a bit slow, but our server was attentive. Because of the mishap with our reservations, they comped the boys for a round of sake. Definitely enjoyed the yummy food and highly recommend it! Just make sure to confirm reservations and ask for a name.

We have been familiar with the area for years, as my father-in-law lived 3 minutes away, and recently we realized this was his go-to carryout. After 3 visits, I can say it's one of the best in the DMV, thanks to its flavor and food choices. You will find Japanese options like sushi, American-Chinese dishes like orange chicken, similar dishes, and Cantonese food like roast duck, Hong Kong-style noodle soups, and whole fish. They are family-owned and operated. Every time we come, the elder father is always gracious and provides excellent service. The restaurant is always quiet; you can hear conversations in the back, and as customers arrive to pick up their orders, we haven't witnessed any negative interactions. Customers are always happy with their food, and the staff say thank you. The only negative is the space. The building itself is older and outdated. In the summer, it is hot, and now in the winter, there is no heat. They have found ways to make it work, like space heaters on each table, but it can still get uncomfortable if you are dining in. The back area near the bathroom and the bathroom itself need a thorough cleaning. To me, it's a turnoff; it doesn't affect the food, but it does affect the dine-in experience. Again, overall, I love their food and believe it's a local gem worth a try.
