the abolute best Armenian/Middle Eastern pastries, desserts, cakes, cookies, anything you need! since i am Armenian, born and raised from ancestor recipes passed on generation to generation, i know what good Armenian food is. and Sarkis pastry does it best! i wont bore you with describing every single cookie/pastry/cake, becasue for one, they are all good, and second, ill put them in 3 broad categories: the cookies: always made fresh, with delicious, real ingredients and all of it is absolutely amazing! the armenian donuts and pastries: these fried, ooey gooey sticky delicious messy goodness are to die for, and their mini pastrys with phyllo "straws" that look like hay like a horse eats, are also to die for just the right amont of sweet! and the cakes are always made to your specifications and never fail to amaze the eye even if you are a picky eater, an american, asian, mexican, black, you will LOVE these desserts!! read more

Delicious Armenian bakery tucked away on Washington/Allen, across from Adult Disneyland (aka Mission Liquor). Sampled a few of the cakes here and must say, some of the best tiramisu I've had a la carte... and for only about 2.50 a slice!! Also would recommended the opera chocolate cake and red velvet. Will have to come back to sample the baklava and other assorted treats. read more

I've passed this place numerous times and I always wondered if it was any good. My boyfriend decided to meet me after work for so some lunch, and on our way back we stopped in. We asked what was good here and she said the baklava. We also got an assortment of other cookies. The baklava was really good like she said. I liked that it came in different flavors. I've only had the pistachio before. It was quite a treat. The other cookies tasted kinda old and not super fresh. They were very, very dry, didn't have any memorable flavors, and just missed something. It felt like they make all the cookies at one location then ship them to their stores. The price was good though, so I can't complain about that. I just think that there are probably better bakeries in the area. read more

Last time we were at Sarkis was about two years ago. We recently visited and the pastries are still good but it seems they have increased their prices by quite a lot. There are other bakeries selling the same type of pastries in this area with reasonable prices, so there is no justification for such an increase in prices by Sarkis. We will not return unless their prices decrease. read more

A coworker brought in a large tray of Baklava. I'm not a baklava connoisseur but I am a sweets connoisseur. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Baklava. I heard someone in our office say it's not the traditional version they are used too but others say it's closest to yummy home made as they come. All I know is the flavor for me is heaven! Not too much honey in my eyes. Maybe that is why I like it? don't know.. don't care... yummy yumm yumm ... just had 3 pieces... yep.. i did! read more

Later I send in a picture and get quoted almost triple the original amount. When i explain to the lady that was not the original quote she states... well the invoice says you wanted a cake for 150 people, after reminding her I just literally told her at the start of the phone call we need a cake for a 100, she says well the invoice said 150, HELLO LADY the invoice also had the original price that they are refusing to honor. So, it was my mom's birthday and for some reason I decided to get a cake at Vons. Bad choice. There was nothing that looked remotely worth the calories. It occurred to me that my former roommate used to go to this little bakery down the street for cookies every so often, so we made the drive. Their chocolate cakes looked amazing, but my grandpa can't eat chocolate. The saleswoman showed us a strawberry cake instead. It held up for the hour drive into the IE and was TOTALLY amazing. The layers of frosting were sweet, but not too sweet, and there was tons of fruit in each layer of the cake. The brownie we had was lackluster, but the baklava did look delicious and the cake was a hit with all my relatives. I'll be coming back. read more

I walked in today to place the order and the price jumped a whole $105 in less than 24 hours!!! The young lady that attempted to help me had no idea what she was doing. I asked for options and she kept asking me what I wanted. Well let's see...I want a cake for sure! I also want to know what your options are on feelings and frostings, again she asked me what type of cake I wanted? After going back and fourth I made it simple and and asked for the size cake I asked the night before and she hits me with the outrageous price!!! From the Business

History

Established in 1983.

With locations in Glendale, Anaheim and Pasadena, Sarkis Pastry stores are the pride of their communities. Traditional and authentic Middle Eastern and European pastries are the results of a family history in the baking industry for over 40 years. In 1983, Sarkis Pastry was introduced in the United States by being the first Middle Eastern/Armenian bakery in Glendale. Expanding into new locations, Sarkis Pastry next opened a shop in Anaheim in 1995. Soon after in 1999, the newest of 3 locations was opened in Pasadena. "The daintily shaped baklava and kunafa pastries are the loyalty of the Near Eastern sweets, indeed." writes Linda Burum, in her Los Angeles Times article, referring to Sarkis' famous hand rolled baklava. Though the baklava is one of many Sarkis Pastry favorites, we also feature many other varieties of original Middle Eastern sweets as well as French style birthday and wedding cakes; each with endless variety of styles and decorations.

The menu has many options including mangonada, fried Oreos, and Fresh Fruit Cup. I ordered a Mango Fruit Cup and watched in amazement how the mango was peeled and cubed! Lemon juice was poured over the top and salt was then sprinkled. I was offered homemade Chamoy powder. I tasted it first - it had a slight kick, so, I passed on it. Overall, it was a healthy and delicious treat! I'd like to return and get elote! Or maybe a mango smoothie!

Because this place is no where near my house, I had to get a one pound variety of different styles. The kind lady was so sweet and helpful and explained the different kinds of baklava. I had to take it home and the minute I had a chance to try some, man how I wish they were a lot closer to me. You order at the counter. I usually end up getting one of the breakfast meals - and all of them have managed to be both flavorful and fresh - in many ways the opposite of the typical American breakfast. The "bowl of foul", which apparently rhymes if you pronounce foul the Armenian way, is something they advertise a lot on their menu - and for good reason. It's actually one of the least foul breakfasts I've ever had in my life. It's a delicious flavorful bean dip with generous breads on the side to eat with it - as well as a platter of fresh vegetables. Still my favorite food to get here. Also decent was their fatteh, which is cream, yogurt, chickpeas, and a lot of assorted nuts, all dolloped over fried pita bread. Also very good, but I'm just honestly not a huge fan of nuts. It also comes with the vegetable platter which is the perfect combo with the creamy chickpea thing. The food usually takes 10-15 minutes to come out, but that's because they're clearly preparing everything fresh in the back (you can kind of see them do this.) They also have a fountain machine, which is a huge plus to ice addicts like me. Everything is casual, but also very clean and neat. Honestly, it's also a very nice cafe to relax in, do work, talk with friends, etc. etc. This is very much close to the "optimal" place to me when it comes to taking friends out somewhere to reconnect. Anyways, this place is highly recommended for both a wonderful dine-in and dine-out experience. I try to stop by it as often as possible for their breakfast to the point where I can count on my fingers the amount of times I've had breakfast at a place that WASN'T the Old Sassoon Bakery. Honestly, this place stands as a towering achievement of mastering everything that "new hip trendy" food often isn't. It's super affordable, generous portions, super clean, fast service (but you can stay around as long as you want), and the main draw is just the delicious, flavorful, authentic food that very much lives up to all of the hype and more.

The place is nice enough, and it wasn't too busy, so we were able to get our order in right away. As it's always is with these two items, it's made-to-order. It took roughly 15 minutes. The Lahmajoun is tasty with mix of Tomato paste, ground beef, garlic, and parsley on thin lavash-style flatbread that's folded over and crispy. The Aleppo Pepper, paprika, and cumin elevate the taste, and it's just delicious. The Kachapuri is pretty good, but I do feel it's missing something I've had before, this extra savoriness. It's still good, especially if you love goat cheese. If anything though, it's more salty than savory. All in all a pretty darn good experience with generous portions and I do want to come to try their Shakshouka.
