OVERALL Popped into Sara's Place in Lovington, New Mexico on 5/20/2024. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 3 | Ambiance: 3 | Price: 2 PARKING Ample parking in front of the restaurant minus clear parking lot lines. LOCATION/AMBIANCE I think someone mentioned that Sarah's took the place of an old convenience store... it's pretty plain on the outside and there's no signage that I saw easily visible from the main road. Inside there were beautiful murals in bright colors with an array of tables sizes. THE GRUB Steak Ranchero plate for takeout. It wasn't even on the menu -- I asked another patron what was good. It came with one large homemade flour tortilla. No salsa was included in my order and I didn't think to ask. I kind of thought that was a given nowadays with Mexican restaurants or it usually is. My "lunch plate" did not even come with a drink. Total = $14.10. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB Yes, they have kids' plates, but my own children were in school at the time. SERVICE Friendly. Kind of slow getting to me, even though I was the only one in the restaurant. And how come there was no salsa in my to go order nor did they ask me if I wanted any?! MY FAVORITE PART... Steak ranchero. Good tender meat, but not spicy at all which I would have preferred. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The prices! I'd been working in Lovington for a couple of weeks and noticed that Sara's Place always had a jam-packed parking lot every day at lunch (I'm talking trucks parked in every direction to maximize parking space). That's usually a good sign, right? So I decided to give it a try. The inside isn't very spectacular, but I've come to realize that most really good Mexican joints aren't. It was the food that impressed me. First, they put chili powder on their chips which added a whole new dimension to them. I'd never seen that before - and it was good! Of course, tue salsa was good as well. I also ordered the chicken fajita burrito smothered in green and red sauce. This came with chicken, green peppers, New Mexico chilis, and avocado in it. The chicken was grilled just right, with a really good black pepper seasoning to it. The red sauce was good, but the green sauce really shined. It was creamy and spicy and tastes oh-so-good! After i finished my burrito, I had to scoop up all of the sauce with the chips! The service was friendly and fast (although I should mention that I was there after the lunch rush), and the food was cheap, a good combination! They also have a briscuit burrito which I saw a few people order and looked good. I'm going to have to try that one next time! read more

The best place ever get the burritos especially the egg potato and cheese, great for lunch just know that they do get busy.

It was an unexpected pleasure to find this place! It seems to be family owned and operated. We had the Kabob's with special rice, and it was delicious! Especially with Sara's sauce, the specialty there! The food was REALLY good, but what sold it for us, was the AMAZING servers who made us feel family.... It truly felt like you've "come home". And if you want to laugh through the meal, just ask for Mohammed.... we felt VERY welcomed! GREAT PLACE TO EAT when you are tired of the hum-drum ordinary! read more

I gotta say - I have never seen a place that was more undeserving of it's Yelp rating. How it had 4 stars is beyond me. Maybe they were having an off day. Meh - it's in an old Circle K, with a chaos for a parking lot. I walked in, and it's a circus like atmosphere that apparently caters to the high school crowd. I would think that, if all you do is target high school kids, all you will get is high school kids. There was a long line, which, I assume is for waiting to order. Of course, the line moves slow, because the kids seem to have some sort of charge account system. Once I get to the front of the line, I am told that only the "kids" have to order in line. Nice. I just go ahead and order there in the interest of convenience. But, I am told the server will bring my drink and chips and salsa. Unfortunately, the server, who chewed her gum incessantly, and was blowing small bubbles while running food, seemed irritated that she had to bring my drink, and I ended up getting that at the counter. Of course, looking around, it did not seem that "grown ups" were served any faster. I never got a refill on my beverage. The server dropped my food off and never checked back, to see if my food was right. Of course, the server checked her phone 3-4 times, but never her table. I saw another person have to get up and get silverware. Even though the service was pretty bad, the food managed to be worse, MUCH worse. The chile relleno tasted like an egg roll, the taco smelled funky, the green chile sauce was nothing more than mildly spicy cream of chicken soup, and there was crusties on top of my beans, from where they had scraped the pan, catching all the dried beans on the edge. I choked it down, because my schedule would prohibit me from getting another chance to eat for 6 hours or so. After I finished, I worried that my lunch would prohibit me from getting a chance to live for more than 6 hours or so. Also, of note, I was overcharged by $2-3. $10 entrée + $2 drink = nearly $15 (?!). And, if it's not enough, the phone rang loud throughout the building CONSTANTLY. I give it 2 stars, only because I am in a good mood after the holidays. read more

Get a burrito with the salsa. The burritos are the best!! And the salsa compliments them perfectly. I would say the only reason people gave it anything under five stars is because of chaotic parking and busyness...well thats because the place is great! Or maybe they were just having a bad day. Most authentic Mexican food in Lovington. You can't go wrong with a Sara's Burrito or Menudo on the weekends. Chips and Salsa are also great and staff is always super friendly and ready to serve you. read more

I am giving only 4 stars because, even though what I got was yummy, I should try more dishes before I finally decide on stars. That being said, I showed up fifteen minutes past closing, and the lady behind the counter was very nice and said she'd be happy to make me anything. I got a chile relleno burrito that was so simple but so good, fresh. Look forward to eating here again. read more
