OVERALL Ole Jax is a burger staple in the small town of Lovington, NM. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 3 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 2 | Price: 3 PARKING There was ample parking all around the building at 11 AM. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's located fairly in the center of Lovington. Not difficult to find with the purple and white stripes. I know it happens, but it's gross to see a rat trap in front of the building. And hoards of pigeons hang out above the covered parking where I had to position my trusty Jeep to wait for my food. The other thing I was irritated by was there was no visible menu at the drive-thru window. THE GRUB I asked about the Pancho burger which did not have a description on the menu the nice employee handed me. He said, "double meat, double cheese with green chili, ketchup and mustard..." I stopped him. "I'll take one of those without ketchup and mustard. Add mayo." When I got it, it was smaller than anticipated for it being $10.70 with a small drink. The meat tasted a bit weird to me. They went skimpy on the veggies. I barely had any lettuce. Nothing else. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB I don't recall seeing a kid's menu. SERVICE Was nice, but not well-rehearsed in how much their specials were. MY FAVORITE PART... It's got some old school charm. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The food was great! It's the service that was terrible the girl was so annoyed that we came in and she was so disrespectful rolling her eyes at us she also threw the ticket number at my husband. I've never had bad service from yall but I guess there's always a first. read more

Their poncho burgers are my favorite and I like the running earrings, but I have been here in Lovington, in like 4 to 5 years and I found out later, dad, the original owner that had his sold to somebody else. So going forward, they might want to get a different bun for their burgers, because the ones they have fall apart, and they're substandard and lay off the salt when they're battering, their onion rings, cause man, they were too salty. read more

Oooooh who doesn't love fast greasy food? Yeah it's bad for you but hey once in a while won't hurt, right? We saw this place as were driving through town and decided to check it out. We walked up to the ordering window and the employee quickly acknowledged us. We asked what she recommended and she said that their pancho burger and their chicken tenders were their number 1's. We decided to share and my husband decided he wanted to try their steak strips. So we ordered the strips with curly fries and a drink. Our total was only $10. We did wait a while but when we received our order it was piping hot. Our strips were served to us along with some gravy and ketchup. The curly fries were great and the strips were ok. Nothing special. The meat I had was kinda chewy. We only saw the outside of this place and it was very rundown. It looked dirty and the trash can was overflowing. Usually pretty good, lots of different things to choose from on the menu. They do tend to have a lot of kids working without adult supervision which can get frustrating as they tend to get distracted. You will also need to be prepared to wait as they tend to have long lines but it's usually worth it for some steak fingers or whatever else you decide to order. read more

UPDATE- tried to also leave this review on Facebook since that is the most popular way to look into restaurants nowadays and OLE JAX BLOCKED ME!! Guess they are scared BTW.... how do you add photos to the review???? Also, sis in law ordered a ham and cheese grilled sandwich. When she got home to eat it (food sucked we left quickly and the bugs all over the place didn't help) THERE WAS NO HAM!!! ORIGINAL- Wife used to love this place. I've always thought it was less than mediocre and tonight she finally realized why. First there was a huge stink bug as soon as you walked in. Notified the man mopping and he didn't care. He only made a comment of how big it was. Left it there to spray everywhere. We finally had to get it out of there ourselves. The second man to take our order was not friendly-at all. Made us wait 8 minutes to order. Barely answered any of the questions we had to the new menu (we come from out of town). Ordered jalapeños on a burger. We got them in a container on the side. Both chili cheese fries had cold chili and unmelted shredded cheese and my wife's came with a side of hair in it! Burgers were cold. My mother in law noticed they had a stack of meat patties already made off to the side of the stove so we assume they are just making them ahead and leaving them to sit, since ours were cold. We've also never seen henny pennies almost as thin as a piece of card-stock paper. This is the sole reason my wife likes to go there. Our 3 year old needed to use the bathroom (mind you we had already waited for our food for over 20 mins and we had called ahead 15 mins in advance for the paper thin henny pennies) and they told us no. There were no signs telling us there was no public restroom so wife kinda pressured them and they allowed us to take her. We now know why they didn't want us to go back there. The bathroom sink doesn't work, at all. So how do the employees wash their hands after using the bathroom? Are they using the kitchen sink?! Don't think the state would approve. They make AMAZING sweet tea! Their ice is the "good ice!" I grew up in Texas eating chicken fried steak fingers but these were the BEST I've ever had! It was made with real steak tenderized PERFECTLY!! This place is crazy cuz it looks like everything would be pre made frozen stuff but it's quite the opposite! I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture before sinking my teeth into this delicious food. you can't go wrong here. Chicken strips and steak fingers are also a hit here. The burgers are decent, but the service is not. My order was 2 Pancho Villas, 2 orders of fries, large drink, total was close to $24, and they didn't give any salt or ketchup, and only 2 tiny napkins. Their fries have no salt at all, so we're barely edible. If a restaurant is going to be selfish with condiments, they should at least let customers know! read more

This place is a regular stop on our drive from Lubbock to New Mexico to visit the in-laws. Lovington is right on the way to Artesia, and while you may have not heard of either of these towns, I can tell you Ole Jax is a good place to stop while you're driving through New Mexico for whatever reason. No way could you call it gourmet, this is one of those places that just has good greasy grill food. Don't pretend like you don't crave it sometimes, we all do. Especially if you're from Texas, like me. Now. The foods I like the best. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers, cause they're just GOOD. My personal favorite, though, is the taco burger which doesn't have a patty, but has taco meat on it. It is an interesting sandwich, which I have rarely seen elsewhere. I have seen it a couple other places, but this is the best one I've tried. I also love the classic cheese tator tots. The ingredients for their food all seem pretty fresh and taste good. Like I said, this is just GOOD greasy food. It's like the best of all the foods that are really bad for you, the ones you don't want to eat very often. The ones you let yourself eat on vacation. There are a few seats on the inside, but normally you place your order at the drive through window and then drive around, park and wait for them to call your number. Then you walk up to the other window and get it. Old school, I know. Don't make this your only stop though, cause you don't want to use the restroom here. I made the mistake once, and the only restroom is actually THROUGH the entire kitchen into the back. The employee restroom. I just didn't feel comfortable walking through all their bidness. But at least I know it's sanitary where they're prepping the food I'm about to ingest! Ole Jax is always a great way to start our vacation to the middle of nowhere. We love it! read more

The Drive In is a place to go on a day when nothing else is open. They ARE open on Sundays, which is nice. Although I ordered, and I got no bun on my burger. The prices are not shown on the boards outside the building. The Chili Cheese Fries leaked through the bag and made a mess. read more

The turn-over-time to get the food & the taste of the food is average. I've called ahead for take-out & it was ready but the drive-thru was a tad slow. I wouldn't recommend sitting inside for long it wasn't the most appealing smell, but it's an old building. Overall I'm ordering from them again in the future... read more
