For starters, their buffet is replenished often during peak hours. Not sure what Michael M. was referring to back on 9/17/2022 because I saw trays being replaced, checked on, and occassionally stirred by staff members. Everything was hot... no flies feasting on the area like at other buffets. Service is a bit of a mixed bag unless you know the folks who work here like my family does. The ladies at the front don't know me, so I guess they didn't feel like greeting me when I walked in... no worries, I can find my party myself. Whether you buffet or not, chips and salsa are delivered to your table. I appreciate our waitress obliging when I wanted a to-go cup for my drink. The buffet itself consists of enchiladas, tacos, chile rellenos, gorditas, beans, rice, salads, salsas, pico de gallo, fruit, and much more. Some vegetarian options are available. There is live music on Fridays for lunch. Their place - while noticeable water damage exists - is decorated nicely. There is a full bar. Their chairs are cool... padded seats with cut-outs on the backing that spell out their restaurant name. THE GRUB My grand total for the 1/4 chicken meal and a large agua de Jamaica was $12.36. The chicken meal came with two juicy, tender pieces of barbecued chicken, refried beans, rice, lime wedges, bagged onions, shredded lettuce, two slices of tomatoes, a grilled jalapeno, and your choice of three flour or corn tortillas... such a wonderfully-filling meal. The corn tortillas were good. Not my favorite, but good enough. The jamaica is made in-house and is such a great compliment to the saltiness of the chicken meal. If you've never tried agua de jamaica, its colors are rich due to it being partly made from dried hibiscus flowers. Like a fatty, I nearly cleaned my plate too. The atmosphere was indeed decorated for Christmas. Carolers for a cause came in to sing and collect donations without being pushy or getting in our faces. They offered $7.99 delivery through delivery.com which was available via Yelp. That delivery price next to a $2.95 service charge was steep, but I was desperate because I felt like absolute garbage and I rarely take medicine when I'm down. I like to sweat it out with spicy food, cold wet rags, Vicks VapoRub - & now that I'm older - a strong, delicous homemade hot toddy! When I pushed the order through I got a text message at 1:07 saying they were swamped and would be late. The app even said it would be delivered between 1:44-2:14PM. I'm a numbers gal so bear with me... I thought I had time for a nice long needed nap. Nope. I submitted the order at 12:44PM. A nice lady with a smile on her face rang my doorbell at 1:25PM. My order arrived perfect and packed neatly with no messes that I've experienced from other birria places (not in Hobbs because I know of only two others). The broth, also known as consomme broth de birria, was not quite as flavorful as I have had, yet, it was good. I ordered an extra cup ($2.69) because I love to drink that stuff when I've got sinus congestion. The shining star was the Mulitas de Birria ($14.19) with sliced limes and extra onions and cilantro on the side. All four mulitas were still amazingly piping hot - and their brick and mortar is clear on the other side of town! The tortillas still had a slight crispiness to them. They did not skimp on the meat. It was moutwatering good with the green salsa, but that red spicy salsa - that's where it's at. They threw in a few of the cutest, smallest tortilla chips I've every had. They were well-salted. I knew I wouldn't get enough salsa because I never do, so I ordered an extra cup of that red spicy salsa ($4.19). Also, I ordered two jalapeños toreados ($1.58) on the side. Can't wait to be 100% again so I can check out this place in the flesh. Of course I've driven by. It's small and looks kind of dive-ish with bright colors on the outside. The cutoff at 7 pm is a bit early for dinner in my opinion, but that's when they close. Also, when I just wanted a few items to take home with me to add to add to my homemade taco dinner, a young female employee explained that they had to take the chile con queso off of their menu because "nobody liked it." Lol. I mean, I appreciate the honesty, but maybe just mark it off of the menu and be a little more professional next time. The salsa tasted homemade. The small bag of chips did not.
