We ordered kung pao beef, general sho chicken W fried rice, one hot and spicy soup and one egg drop soup, terrible food. Suppose to be spicy, it's a joke. I ordered spring rolls, didn't even get them. This place should save themselves some time and close the doors and move on down the road!!! OVERALL Koi Asian Cuisine recently had their grand opening. This Japanese-Chinese restaurant is a good choice for a fast casual sit-down meal with minimal adult beverage options (beer, wine, & sake) in Hobbs, NM. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 3.5 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING Ample parking in their own private lot or there is a large plaza within walking distance just east of the restaurant. LOCATION/AMBIANCE I remember when the building Koi moved into was a Dairy Queen. The restaurant is near the Norte Vista Plaza on Bender Boulevard. Inside, the minimalistic Asian decor and multiple seating options caught my attention. It was a nice cool temperature as we sat in a quiet corner on a very warm October 9, 2024. THE GRUB + free shelled peanuts were served before we received our menus + gyoza - we received this as a free app. While it's not what I originally had a hankering for, it was good. + spicy chicken ramen ($13.99) - according to our waitress this is their most popular ramen bowl. I can see that being Hobbs. It was good. I tried my youngest daughter's entree. But let me instead recommend this one: + Tonkotsu Shoyu ramen ($13.99) - both ramen bowls entailed marinated egg, bamboo shoots, corn, wakame (seaweed), scallions & nori (the larger flat seaweed that is half-way placed into the bowl). If you enjoy chashu pork like I do, then opt for this. + added fish cakes ($1.29) - this is another reason why I bumped my score up to 4 stars overall... they weren't stingy with these when my oldest daughter requested them. They brought extras for all three of us. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menus! Or at least they didn't offer my kids any, but they order adult stuff now anyway. SERVICE Quick to seat us as soon as we walk. The hostess wasn't really all that friendly. Standoffish. Our waitress was very friendly, but her "colleague" as she put it stole our vegetable spring rolls after they had forgotten to bring them to the table BEFORE our meal. They made things right by bringing us a plate of gyoza which was very flavorful. MY FAVORITE PART... My pork and my daughter's spicy chicken were both very tender. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... I'm in town to visit mi Abuela for a few days, while I'm this way visiting from California. I won't lie, I am spoiled with any and all Asian cuisine living in San Francisco, so I didn't have high expectations going in. My Aunt and Uncle love to eat here, though. Seeing a menu that offers Chinese, Japanese, and Korean was a little intimidating, because who can do them all well? I can only speak to the Chinese portion of the menu, since we each ordered from that section of the menu, but it was all very well executed. I convinced my Aunt to try the Salt and Pepper Fish, but she really wanted the standard Chicken Fried Rice she always gets, so we agreed to share the two. I'm happy to report, she loved the Fish! It wasn't greasy and was fresh tasting, crisp and flavorful. The Chicken Fried Rice was also very good, not greasy and I especially loved that the chicken was all white meat chicken slices. Additionally, we had an order of Orange Chicken at the table, that I didn't taste, but looked great. I forgot to mention that we started with Crab Rangoons and they were more crab (imitation of course) than cream cheese, which is very uncommon. I wasn't a fan of the wonton wrapper used for them, but otherwise they were great. Each entree was a very large shareable portion, so of course we ordered too much food for 3 people. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant itself was very clean and modern with a minimalist appeal. I was impressed with what they did in an old DQ space. Bottom line, they do Chinese well, and I'm curious about the Japanese and Korean portions, since I'm a big fan of both of those cuisines as well. (In all honesty it takes a bit to impress me with cuisines I indulge in back home in San Francisco, but this place hit the mark.) read more

It's okay. Lacked a little flavor on the broth with my tonkotsu ramen. The pork was flavorful. The fried rice not my favorite. The lo mien was good and so was the sweet and sour chicken. But I feel like that's the same every where you go. Would I go back? Maybe just to give it another shot. the food was BANGER! i got 2 of the mushroom bun plates and devoured them all. So fluffy, HUGE, delicious and the sauce was perfect. The server was so sweet, he got us our drinks and food so quickly and had a great attitude! The place is beautiful too, music and a tv with landscapes. read more

Found this place during a trip out of town, and decided to give it a shot. Very unassuming outside, nice interior, and a varied menu. My mom and I ordered the Tonkatsu Miso ramen, I took mine spicy, and hers was mild. The flavors were INCREDIBLE, the chashu pork was cooked perfectly, the noodles a great texture, the spiciness of the broth was spot-on. The service was quick as well. They must have changed chefs or just don't care anymore since they have a base clientele. Food was so salty it burned my mouth. The hot and sour soup was neither hot or sour. And tell me how 3 bowls of soup that are 3 different colors individually. My kids chicken was burnt. The portions, quality, and service blew. Don't go here. Save your money. This place is like a chain joint. Only people that have no idea about Korean, Chinese, or Japanese noodles,love this place. I don't understand all the reviews on here that recommend this place. Salty, dry, not spicy, noodles are instant. My kid also said the lemon sauce for the lemon chicken was pale and bitter. I had the braised beef ramen, it's amazing! Had to get it to go because it is SOOO filling! Their steamed mushroom buns are so fluffy and amazing! The staff is so welcoming, and their service is so quick and friendly! Koi is a newer fast-casual Chinese restaurant on Bender. You order at the counter, then your food is delivered to the table. I had the orange chicken with fried rice. The portions were very large and the orange chicken was flavorful. I also had egg drop soup that came with the meal, but I didn't care for it and tossed it after two bites. read more

First of all I'd like to start with pricing. The soup bowl requires that you must choose 4 topping starting at 3.99 -4.99 each. Second our waiter was nice however there was a language barrier. He repeated our order and it was confirmed. However when I received the order it was incorrect. I repeated the original order and was told I had to choose 4 ingredients no matter if I only wanted 3. I chose to cancel the order. This was for my sister and there wasn't any other item she wanted. A few minutes later a waitress brought the order I refused in a Togo container and I was told I could take it or leave. They couldn't accept it. Btw it was not touched. My ticket showed I was being charged for the order I returned . I explained the situation and it was removed. Ugh! Overall the food was not very good. The bone broth did not have much flavor and not appealing to the eye! I'm very disappointed! read more
