I made reservations, arrived with my crew & proceeded to sit for 30 minutes without a greeting, a welcome or a menu! We flagged someone & asked for service, she said I don't know who your server is I'll have to check. No one came to the table, I had to go inside to order. Being they are in the hospitality industry, they provided zero customer service. It's clear they need new management & training of the staff. There are so many good wineries near by, go elsewhere!! And it is a great name. I've dated one Sara and one Sarah in my life. Both Sara(h)'s are lovely women. Sara #1 was my first love, in all definitions of that word. Incredibly, in spite of my jerk tendencies back in the day; we are still friends even on FB...so you know we are true friends ;) Sarah #2, well, I was her first love in every definition of that word and alas have lost track of her. Hopefully she is doing well and doesn't hate me too much (those jerk tendencies sometimes don't fade away that quickly). The next stop on the tour through the Santa Clara Valley Wine Country was here at Sarah's Vineyard Winery. And if you see the Five Stars above, you know this was one of my favorite stops. And yes, eventually I will stop looking back but comparing the experience at Sarah's to my later visit at The Pretentious Winery That Will Not Be Named; is like comparing my Yelp friend (with a cold) Lori M's exquisite baked goods to that oily Hostess crap we are all suddenly nostalgic for. Or maybe comparing her BF Robert L's cooking creations to those of a bunch of pretentious foodies I met recently (There is that word again. Hey, newsflash for you winos and foodies taking yourself too seriously like a bad bottle of Clos LaChance Viognier. Guess what...as my other Yelp friend Mary R. would say, the sun will explode in 5 billion years...the Universe will run out of energy in 650 billion years...no one will remember you anyway when all said and done so get over yourself. You are just not that marvelous. End of rant). Sarah's Vineyard was established in 1978 and they produce wines from grapes grown on their own Estate as well as grapes sourced locally from around the area. In spite of being busy due to Passport weekend, the staff here were pros: cheerful, friendly, funny...plenty of appetizers to nosh on as well as other food stuff to purchase. I forgot our server's name (a woman Cheryl from you know where would say) but she was a cutie, knowledgeable about the wines and with a great personality. She also pronounced the French names of some of the bottles flawlessly, unlike me :) She also let my friend taste additional whites than what was part of the normal tasting since she is allergic to reds. And what a variety of wines we tasted! Chardonnay, Viognier, I think a Rousanne, various Pinots, and various blends like the Cote Madone (Rhone Blend) and Nuits de Nefer (Merlot, Cabernet, Charbono). Most of these wines were very good, with true varietal characteristics and a few of these were even outstanding! The Viognier was the best White of the day: crisp, floral, balanced. If the bottle we bought tastes this good. I will buy a case. I also purchased the 2010 Pinot Central Coast and the above mentioned Nuits de Nefer. The grounds are lovely...bocce ball court and sculptures out back. There is a Tuscan oven outdoors too I presume for those warmer days. One of my favorite stops on this wine tour! What a lovely winery! My best friend has been a Gilroy resident for the past three years but has never toured the local wineries. So being the good friend that I am, I needed to help her correct this straight away. Sarah's was our first stop but we never made it to any others, we enjoyed the tasting so much that we purchased a bottle of their Viognier and some cheese and crackers and found nice comfortable chairs outside to lounge in. We loved all of their wines. My particular favorites were the Chardonnay and the Old Vine Zinfandel. Steve was our pourer and he was great, very friendly and knowledgeable and just fun to chat with. We had a great time. We are both very interested in becoming wine members sometime. All of their bottles are very reasonably priced. I ended up purchasing a bottle of the Chardonnay and will be back for the Zinfandel, it was delicious! We'll be back soon! read more

We are wine club members and have enjoyed Sarah's wines over the past few years. Today however, our experience has made us question whether it may be time to move on and take our business elsewhere. It was busy, but not crazy. We had come to pick up our shipment and have a tasting. We waited for almost 10 minutes before a staff person asked us what we wanted. Kess, I believe her name was, gave us our first (tiny!) pour and then left for what seemed like forever. Several other wait staff walked back and forth before someone stopped to ask if we were being helped. 'Not at the moment' we said gratefully, before the person walked away leaving us and our empty glasses staring at the wall. Another woman came by to ask what we needed, and was nice enough to pour a small droplet of wine into each of our glasses before again leaving us to go sign up new club members. I get it - members are where the $$ are, but we ARE members and were treated as annoyances. We will be exploring other wineries in the area (Watsonville Avenue beckons) and are happy to switch to a place that makes great wine (MANY choices!) AND gives a crap about customer service. read more

What a wonderful tasting room!!! We sat in the garden and purchased some delicious snacks while we ordered our flights. They have a white, mixed, and red flight which was perfect for everyone's various palate preference! The garden is adorable, with light rock n' roll playing in the background. Wine club member since early 2000's when Tim first bought the place. Took visitors there today and this was the pour we got. It was embarrassing. Our visitors gave us a dirty look. The lady serving us didn't make us feel welcome, more like a burden as if we didn't deserve her attention. Tim needs some corrective action. We went to Solis and they made us feel welcome and even stay after hours. It's such a shame as the wines are so good but I don't feel I take people here for a visit anymore. This is not the first time either. Even more a shame as Tim gave us such a personal welcome back in 2002/3 when ever we first went there. $5 for 5 wines. Pretty empty when we came here. But service was fast. If you want, you can tell them you want to stick with just whites or reds depending which one you prefer. I liked pretty much all the whites and I chose to stick with all whites. I really liked the 2009 Cote de Madone Blanc best. The 2009 chardonnay was less oakier than the santa cruz mountain chardonnay. Nice female staffs. Picnic area outside, but there was no umbrella to cover from the sun though. We did a corporate team event at Sarah's Vineyard. The team had such a great time, and we were thankful or all the things Rachel pulled together - large and small - to make this a successful event. From pouring great wines at our pace, to the private seating area, to putting the lunch out (and packing it up for us), to waiting for us to get back and collect our wines, the list goes on and on. Came here to celebrate a birthday and had a great eperience. There were 10 of us and we booked a bocce ball court but since it was quiet that Sunday afternoon we had 2 courts and the whole area to ourselves. Comfortable seating and they brought an extra table for our buffet.They ask that you buy a bottle of wine per couple and you can bring your own food. The wines we had were all good and the workers were helpful. It can be a little windy and chilly in the shade so dress appropriately. read more

My girlfriend and I are avid wine drinkers and often visit many wine regions such as Morgan Hill/Gilroy, Napa, Lodi, Livermore, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara. On Sunday, July 2, 2017 we decided to take a group of friends, as well as co-workers for a day of wine tasting. Since we are wine members at Miramar Vineyard and Kirigin Cellars we also took advantage of getting our wine pick-ups and enjoyed wine tasting. Once we were finished with that, we decided to make our last stop Sarah's Vineyard. We thought Sarah's Vineyard would be a great place to enjoy a picnic because we've done it before (We still have 3 bottles of their 2012 Merlot). Since it was our 3rd and last stop, not everyone in our group was drinking at this point. As a group, we decided two bottles would be enough. My co-worker and I walked in and noticed the 2012 Merlot was sold out. So we settled for the old Vine Zinfandel and the Chardonnay. The lady then asked how many glasses. We explained that there is a group of 8, but that we only need 6 glasses because not everyone is drinking. The lady stated that you must buy 1 bottle per two people, even if everyone is not drinking. She stated that the policy was on their website and posted at one of their registers. I explained to her that I've been there before with a group of 4 and we only bought 1 bottle. I then told her that we should not have to buy a bottle for two people who were not drinking. A this point, my sister's husband showed up and we purchased a 3rd bottle and she said she would allow us to picnic with 3 bottles. Once I got to the group, I explained what happened. As we looked around we notice a few groups arriving to picnic as well and only having 1 bottle for a group of 6 and a second group having 2 bottles for a group of 9. Not only that, but a Sarah's Vineyard employee came out and told the group behind us that their kid was not allowed to play with his ball on the grass (the kid was 1 1/2 years old). Really? Two of us decided to go back and talk to Steven (the manager). Steven was very professional and agreed that the policy wasn't being enforced with every group, so he compte us the bottles. I've been going wine tasting for a long time and this by far the worse experience. Not only was I embarrassed in front of my co-workers and friends, but Sarah's vineyard was clearly not a family friendly environment. This is the last time I'll visit their winery! read more

Stopped here for a tasting for my friends bachelorette party. As soon as we walked in the staff was rude commenting something about "oh here we go" possibly referencing that they thought we would be a rowdy bachelorette group. This was disheartening because a third of our group was pregnant so they weren't drinking and another third were sharing tastings so we weren't even close to being belligerent. I myself didn't do the tasting here but the girls who did said the wine was good. Giving one star for the wine and another star because the one who was pouring our tastings ended up being nice. Other than that I would never come back here again or recommend it to anyone. read more

We went to the winery on Friday evening to enjoy the wine & music. Unfortunately our visit was less than enjoyable. It was very hot on Friday and I wanted to purchase a bottle of chardonnay or rose. I asked for a bucket with ice and was told that I would have to purchase an insulated sleeve for $13 because they do not give wine buckets & ice. If I wanted a glass I was also told that I needed to purchase one! Two of the girls went to ask the manager if they could give me a wine bucket but and the answer was definitely not! I am not sure what the owner/managers reasoning is with the wine bucket & ice especially when the had them at the winery and it was so hot. I don't blame the workers at all since it was out of their control but customer service from the manager/owner is definitely lacking! Too many other wineries out there that do take good care of their customers. Would NOT join this winery! read more

After one of my friends had a couple great visits here, we decided to make our Sunday (3/31) a girls day and go wine tasting. Well we started off great, lovely wine, amazing view, very calm scenery and not too far from our home. That is until we decided to get some items from our vehicle. We were literally 10 feet from their front entrence at our vehicle trunk, with our wine glasses in hand, when all of a sudden one of the workers asks us if we had already paid. We were confused because we were looking to do a second tasting, he follows up by saying they were running out of glasses. We kindly told him that was their issue and we were not going to rush because of their poor planning. He finally told us the other workers were getting "suspicious/paranoid" about us not paying. We were absolutely offended, so we decided to chug our wine and pay the $10 (total $30). The worst part is, we can tell they had said something about the situation out loud as other groups of customers just stared at us when entering the room. We felt embarrassed and disrespected. As if we couldn't pay $30. Not sure if it was because we were young, or Hispanic but we definitely felt discriminated. There were people there longer than us wandering further than we had, but we got selected for whatever reason. The funniest part is, when we address the issue inside...... we didn't get an apology or ANYTHING just a ridiculous question of "would you like to purchase a bottle?" We were each individually going to buy one, but we decided to go down the way to Fortino Winery and buy a couple bottles, all while being treated with respect. Save yourself the headache, if you're young and ethnic, and go to a more considerate place. read more

I can't recommend throwing an event with Whitney more than words can say! She is absolutely the most organized, approachable, and thoughtful event planner ever. The venue itself is lovely, spread out beautifully, great views and awesome little pockets of space to have an intimate gathering. I worked with Whitney to plan a good friend's bridal shower outdoors. We had about 13 people, charcuterie boxes and lots of desserts from a vendor she recommended. We were in touch throughout the month or so leading up to the event, and she was the greatest pleasure. She was very timely and attentive to all of the details and that helped our entire event run smoothly. In a time where social gatherings are so needed, she was the cherry on top with all of her help. We noticed a few changes from last time we were here. They added a shade structure on the porch and I noticed they are providing doggy bags. It goes to show that they really are dog friendly. I have been coming here for over 8 years and have been a member for a number of those years off and on. One of the main reasons being we can sit outside with our small dog while we have a tasting. This Sunday there was quite the change as we were the only people there -just gone 12, the folks there informed us that we could only sit outside if we brought a glass or bottle and not a tasting. I could maybe understand that if there was an event but I asked and was told no there wasn't. I've been a member for about a year. It is a wonderful venue for tasting wine with friends. The wines are very good with a good price point ($-$$.) I loved their Viognier and the Cote de Madone. Service is excellent. They are all very knowledgeable and very professional. The ambiance is clean, upscale and warm. The woody interior reminds you of upscale old world charm. Outside venue is warm and inviting with many tables and seating areas. We have enjoyed several lovely picnics overlooking the flowers at the nursery next door and the rolling hills in the distance. If you have time to picnic, it is well worth it. We brought a picnic, but they do sell meat and cheese and itallian sodas if you don't have one with you. Wine tasting is free to members and up to 3 guests. $5 if you aren't a member. We sat on the patio in back for one visit and had wine tasting brought to us! Each time the server came out he gave us information on the new pour as if it were a private wine tasting. I haven't had the chance to hear the bands they have on the member wine pick-up parties, but they sound marvelous and I've heard good things from other members. Anyone who lives in San Jose grows up with a preconceived notion and singular idea of Gilroy-- that is wonderfully stinky and lovable garlic. Uh, you can smell the wholesome goodness during warm days in South San Jose. Who would have known that this area also makes great wine? Unexpected, surprising, and awesome! Perhaps this will harbor more visits to Gilroy than the Garlic Festival or the Outlets. Sarah's Vineyard was our first stop on our Gilroy wine tasting adventure. I met their owners a week before at another winery and was excited to venture south, real south to unknown territory. Their winery is small, quaint, and gorgeous. The tasting room is open, inviting. We really enjoyed their laid-back service and our pourer, Tim's overall knowledge about wine. Their Chard and Syrah are pretty great. I kept deviating back to the Rhone blends and obviously, this place does not disappoint. Their Pinot is great, too if I was a Pinot fan. I definitely say this is the best winery I've been to in the area. It's definitely worth a visit! read more

What a little gem this winery is--and in our own backyard! Me, being one who loves to visit, enjoy and collect wines in the Napa, Paso and Santa Barbara areas, it's somewhat surprising, yet wonderful, to have a place within a 30 minute drive to go to that has wines of this quality and with a wide product line so close by. I have been here several times with my wife and the staff and atmosphere are great. Here are some highlights: Pinot Noir, three are fantastic with the Estate and Santa Rita hills my fav. Cote Madonne (GSM blend). Absolutely delicious and ready to drink without having to sit on for a few years 2011 Santa Cruz Chardonnay. Well-balanced with some hints of pineapple and soft lingering finish--this is one to stock up on and bring to your friends. "Days of Joy" Sort of a Rousanne blend. If you're a fan of Rousanne, you;ll like this one for Summer. Bocce court--Is there a better date day then to play a round of bocce with friends sharing a bottle of wine? I totally recommend Sarah's. If you saw the sign on 152 and didn't think much, I would put this on your list along with a group and a picnic lunch. It's a must-stop place for wine tasting on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. On our way to Carmel, we took the Gilroy wine road detour just for kicks. We were shocked and delighted to find that Sarah's was a totally professional, legit winery with all the perks of an upscale tasting room (nice wines, polished service, welcoming ambiance) without the crowds. Our server really knew her stuff, was friendly and generous with the pours, so we lingered longer. And the sweet winery dogs lingered with us. Wines were the best we tasted (in Gilroy, that is). If you have to narrow down your Gilroy hit list, keep Sarah's on it. Rumor has it that they'll be doing summer concerts and wood-fired pizza on the patio. I had the weirdest experience here this past weekend but it looks like I'm not alone. We came here for the first time on Monday and it was busy but not too crazy. My husband and I agree that the feeling was "take your alcohol and go now thanks." It was also the smallest pours I have ever seen in my life... I couldn't even tell you if I liked the wine... we were going to share a tasting since my husband was driving but it was so small that halfway through we asked for two.
