They told me there was an appointment at 10am already scheduled. I come here at 10:45am, it's closed. And now it is 11am. No one there. Kind of not cool. Was looking forward to donating my hair. I didn't receive an email or phone cancelation either. I confirmed my appointment in the email as well. My advice, if you can't show up, call me or email me. Also, it's especially not cool when it's a hair donation for a kid. I understand life happens, but I drove 1 hr for this. The least you can do is inform me of a cancelation. Also, just to add, I was also getting charged for the cut too. So the stylist was suppose to get paid/tipped.

They got me in for a consult the next day, showed genuine care and concern that made the awful situation seem less dire. I was reassured that I would not need a Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta haircut. I ended up really, really liking the cute cut they gave me- it made me not mind having short hair! The ladies at Red Chair rescued me from Hair Hell, and I am so grateful to them! Will be coming back for other services!

Andy helped me work out a plan for it and did a cut that gave my fine, very straight hair lots of movement, texture, and style even with my super low maintenance daily routine. It's been a week now since getting it cut, and sometimes when you do that first week (or even first wash) you have a moment where you're like "hey where'd all the cool haircut go, it's just mush again?" NOT SO. This one maintains great movement and texture even with just blow drying it the night before and tossing texturizer in it in the morning (which I got at a discount thanks to their welcome package). I also loved seeing all the different types of neighborhood people around--not just like fancy people getting their hair done but a really wide spectrum from older dudes to younger NB folx and femmes. TLDR: Great experience with a haircut from Andy (pic attached if you're interested) and really enjoyed the salon itself

My hair is gone so no way to fix that and wouldn't trust her to fix it tbh so I have to take an expensive loss. I cried all night yesterday just looking at the front pieces. Just embarrassing. I paid a lot and tipped very well just for it to look like an amateur cut my hair. Don't come here. I regret coming here as I looked better with my dead ends. I could've cut my own hair better which I have. This was supposed to be a pick me up to make me feel beautiful now 2 days later I am in regret not feeling like how I should and wanted. Sooooo expensive and terrible results. Also they could've been friendlier. I felt she got tired blow drying my hair. They are supposed to be knowledgeable in long, thick hair, curly hair, wavy hair. Olivia began thoroughly washing my hair, with a nice scalp massage too. Once done and in the chair, we then discussed the style being I was looking for: long u shaped with lots of layers and face framing pieces. She used only scissors, no razors. Hair was wet and she sectioned off the hair to blow dry and cut. After she was done cutting, she used a flat iron to show me how to style the layers to make it look fresh and full of volume! Okay, I have to been to Sarah several times for a haircut. I was never happy at this salon or with Sarah. So finally I have a new salon (it takes me a long time to admit I've made a mistake). Here is a complete review: Pros: - beautiful, intimate boutique space - high-end products - relative ease of communication with the stylist (text, email, etc.) - open and honest about prices Cons: - 'mean girl' vibe. - heavy handed sales tactics. Product placement starts pretty much from the moment you sit down in her chair. It does not stop when you leave, because there is always email to remind you of all the things you are not buying from her. - in two years, I have not seen a truly clever haircut on any client. When I had short hair, she couldn't do anything 'interesting' unless I grew it out. When I had long hair, she couldn't do anything 'interesting' unless I cut it off. I never got to the perfect length where something interesting could eventually happen. - Sarah has beachy waves. Taylor has beachy waves. We their clients largely get beachy waves. - similarly, to protect us from ourselves, we must all get balayage. After all, Sarah and Taylor do it. - in keeping with this theme of safety in uniformity, Sarah has smokey eyes and nude lips. Taylor has smokey eyes and nude lips. So do us lucky clients! Lucky us, how clever they are! I've had hair dressers take 5-7 minutes after a haircut to show me cute little hair tricks over the years. Those 5-7 minutes are precious. The sum of my hair knowledge lies in these beautiful 5-7 minutes of shared friendship and expertise. Not so with Sarah. You are encouraged to sign up for classes with her, but she will NOT be offering 30 seconds of styling advice to you "for free". ps. my haircuts cost $110+ each time. read more

There aren't enough superlatives in the galaxy for me to properly praise Taylor at Sarah Kahn Hair, but at least let me try. Long ago, in a salon far, far away, I got a bad haircut. This resulted in a severe case of tonsurephobia (which Google tells me means fear of getting your hair cut), and in the ensuing years, as my hair grew long, was bleached, and dyed rose gold (and lavender, and violet, and navy blue, and pink...), I refused even the slightest of trims. Eventually, this became...a problem. There were split ends everywhere, tangles the size of small mammals, and rioting in the streets. I broke a Wet Brush; it was total chaos. Then I met Taylor, and in one visit she totally transformed my hair, y'all. With the first visit, she gave me a badly-needed haircut, and completely restored manageability and shape--somehow without making it look like I'd lost any length. My anxiety eased, I made another appointment, this time with a much bigger ambition: would she consider transforming me into a blonde? Reader, she did, and it looks incredible. I went from half-dark brown/half fuchsia hair to a beautiful, dimensional, shimmering blonde in just one go and it is beyond. From the start, she was honest about the process and my expectations, all while being positive and enthusiastic. And as an added bonus? Not only did I leave with my dream hair, it's in better condition than it has been in years. Is Taylor a benevolent sorceress in possession of arcane hair magicks? Maybe! But she's also an incredibly talented stylist with a gift for color correction, making her clients look and feel their best, and is an all-around joy to be around. read more

Sarah has been doing my hair for years and I'm always inpressed with how natural she makes my hair color look...no matter what color I feel like having! This is not an easy task, escpecially considering the fact that I have very long and extremely thick hair. I have been a blonde, a brunette and many versions between, she has given me bangs, short cuts long cuts...It always looks great! I hate streaky highlights with a passion and I always seemed to end up with them even when I stressed the work "natural" to other stylists until Sarah started doing my hair. My coworkers dont know If I'm a natural blonde or brunette and I mean bleach blonde and very dark brown...we've done both and it always looks like it grew right out of my head with no chemical aid. I've had many bad experiences with getting my hair cut and colored, but when I found Sarah I decided that I had finally found a true professional. Not only does Sarah listen to my requests and concerns, she is a wealth of knowledge and demonstrates a real talent for tailoring your hair cut and color to suit your features. I wasn't familiar with Devine hair products prior to my first appointment, but Sarah helped me select the Devine products that were right for me and now I feel like I truly am taking care of my hair when I use them. I have a Christmas party coming up and Sarah will be doing both my hair and my makeup. I said makeup because Sarah stocks the entire Smash Box cosmetic line as well. I came to Sarah Kahn Hair on the recommendation of a friend after going to a *large well known Seattle chain salon that will remain nameless* for many years. I saw Taylor for a cut & color and couldn't be happier! I was looking for a fresh perspective, and Taylor delivered. She was able to do what I wanted, and still bring her own creative vision. I would describe this salon as a boutique experience (contemporary, personalized, fun), versus the Nordstrom experience you get at *that other place* (nice, but formulaic and nothing special). If you're thinking about making the switch, I highly recommend it! They'll even give you more than one choice of tea :) I've definitely found my new go-to salon. I am so happy I finally decided to go to Sarah. I wasn't completely sure what I needed but I knew I needed a big change! She took the time to work out options with me and I felt at ease letting her do her thing. She completely transformed my hair from a very blah dirty blonde to a beautiful rose gold auburn that made me feel like a new woman. Yes, it was expensive compared to what I'm used to paying, but it's the best hair cut/color experience I've ever had and was totally worth it. I have been seeing Sarah for about 2 years now. I would go nowhere else. She has incredible talent and she is also just plain nice to be around. Just recently moved to Seattle and needed a new go-to stylist. I was recommended Sarah Kahn Hair and was not disappointed. Taylor made me feel safe and secure amidst covid as she helped me decide on my new hairstyle, as well as giving her expert advice on what would look cute. And you better believe I came out cute! I didn't have to direct her or suggest to her much at all. This made her so upset, the entire vibe changed. It was awkward, off putting, and I could tell she was mad. I was confused as to why, because I was nice about it and really, just simply asked for my bangs to be shorter. I dunno. It was weird. When the bangs were done, she immediately just walked to the register without another word. I wish I hadn't left a tip. I definitely will not be coming back to this salon.

Plus, Tangletown is a cute area and this gave me an excuse to venture into a different area of Seattle. I didn't know anyone else who'd come here, or anything about the stylists - so I just took a leap and scheduled with Paul. I am so happy I did! Paul and I visited a bit so that he could get a feel for what I wanted and what I was comfortable with. He's an experienced stylist, and he had great ideas about what kind of cut would work best for my hair type (fine hair but lots of it, and a bit of wave here and there) as well as my lifestyle (low maintenance). Paul began with a light massage using some delicious smelling essential oils, with another scalp massage while washing my hair. While the conditioning mask sat on my hair, he gave me a hand massage. It was so relaxing, I nearly dozed off. Filling my cut, he dried and styled my hair so that I looked finished coming out of the salon. And my cut was fantastic. As a bonus, Paul is lovely. The salon itself is cozy and inviting. They have some boutique items, like sweaters and jackets, that they sell as well as an array of Aveda products. The whole place smells amazing. And the staff are also very sweet and helpful. A lot of salons are closed on Sundays and Mondays, but this salon is open (another reason I wound up coming here, as those are my "days off"). Convenient hours too. Highly recommend Paul and Matthew Steele Salon.

I had foolishly cut my hair after growing out an old cut and desperately needed it fixed. Bernae listened intently and followed through in thinning out my hair and texturing it just like I've always wanted! My head doesn't feel like I'm wearing a floppy hat all the time, it's wonderful! I'm only sad they were out of the ghost oil, but I'll be back soon for it! Consider me converted. I am so glad to have these guys in the neighborhood! Everyone is incredibly nice, and they were able to fit me in on the same day! They have been there for years and know their stuff. She regularly goes to continuing ed classes to stay current with the latest techniques and products. She is so easy to talk with. I love that the salon is all hers - clean, quiet and private. She doesn't rush, but takes the time you need to tell her what you want for your hair. In the many years I have been going to her, she has been spot on in evaluating my hair needs (and my hair needs a lot of attention!). She is regularly on time - I have never waited more than 5 minutes once I arrived. Mostly, though, I go to Sarah to get an excellent hair cut, and I highly recommend her.

One, my hair was a lot shorter than I had asked. I had asked for a blunt cut, angled bob where the front would hit 1-2 inches below my chin. I ended up with a blunt cut bob but it was 1 inch above my chin at the widest part of my face. That was shocking to me to see once I put my glasses back on. I have low vision so without my glasses on, I couldn't see how short my hair was getting. It is a good and precise cut, but the length is not what I asked for. Second, when I got home I saw my receipt in my email and noticed a $5 Green Circle charge. Looked it up and turns out it's a charge for disposal and recycling of hair, foils, etc. Like Ridwell for hair salons. The Green Circle website suggested that salons charge a small fee like $1 to customers. A $5 fee feels way too high and there was nothing posted in The Collective's website about it. For these things, I'm docking 2 stars.

Mattie recently did cut, color and full balayage for me. I couldn't be happier with the results! (See before and after pictures). She is also very sweet and responsive. On a personal note, I am a nursing mom and needed to pump milk during the long coloring appointment. Mattie kindly accommodated and I was able to pump in the salon. Since the setup is one client at a time, I appreciated the privacy. Highly recommend !
