Very disorganized staff. My friend told me about this place and recommended it since I had not cut my hair since before the pandemic in February. I was looking forward to it. 20 minutes before the appointment, as I was already heading over, I got a text from the hair stylist asking me if it would be ok to have my appointment 30 minutes later than what I had booked. That was fine. I understand sometimes previous clients are running a bit late. Then, while I waited nearby, about half an hour later I got a call from the receptionist saying "it will be a bit longer" and when I asked what that meant, she said "oh about an hour and a half"!!! While I can be accommodating to a certain degree, having your client wait 2 hours for an appointment is absurd. Quite disrespectful of your clients' time. And attempting to blame unprofessional scheduling on the current Covid situation is lame. read more

This was my first time at Sara June and it was an amazing experience with Kalina. I had a few ideas for what I wanted and then Kalina pulled up some inspiration pictures that were exactly aligned with what I was thinking. I just had my first appointment at Sara June since Covid and I have nothing but amazing things to say about this salon. They have taken the most thoughtful precautions to keep staff and clients safe. Additionally, Kalina has been doing my hair for about a year. I really like this place! First off, from the moment you open the door to the sunroom-like front entrance there is no hint of pretentiousness here. Places where the vibe is "too cool for school" really irk me, and there was none of that here. The four staff members I saw there were all down to earth and seemed friendly and the space feels really comfortable. Kalina gave me a fantastic cut. In fact, I haven't had a cut I like this much in years. I left my last stylist recently because they seemed afraid or unable to do anything different with my hair or take off a fair amount of length. I was looking for someone who I thought would be comfortable cutting my hair short in the future. I feel like Kalina really listened to what I asked for as well as what I didn't want my hair to look like. The cut came out looking better than I even thought it could and works perfectly with my hair texture. She also listened to how I like to style my hair (air dry, minimal effort) and gave me something that would work well with that routine (or lack thereof). Also, a shout out for the fantastic shampoo / head massage! The assistant possibly gave the best head massage I've had with a shampoo. Very relaxing. First things first, I am VERY picky with my hair. I have double processed platinum hair that I wanted to take a little more blue. My normal guy just upped his prices, so I thought I would take a chance on my local salon. Overall, I had a great experience. I worked with Marly, who did a fantastic job correcting my roots and mixing me a color that I love love love (it's blonde, blue, purple, grey-ish and amazing!). While I sipped on white wine, Marly bleached my hair faster than anyone has ever done it before. I was in an out of the salon in under two hours (miraculous for a double process). I have been to Sara June three times now. A stylist who is no longer there fixed my color (1), Molly gave me a blowout and trimmed my ends (2) and I booked a cut / blow-dry for Saturday (yesterday - 3). I booked a blowout alongside the cut knowing the cut has a complimentary blow dry, but Molly made a big deal about my thick and curly hair at my previous blow dry appointment. She had the assistant mark my profile as such. Molly remembered me, hugged me upon arrival for my 10AM Saturday cut. She was running 5 minutes behind. As we discussed what I wanted with my cut, she then told me she would not have time to dry my hair and told me she'd defuse my curls instead. I told her I made a blow dry appointment specifically with my cut so I could have a straight blowout for an event that evening. No, she said -- she canceled the blowout appointment, as it's complimentary with the cut anyways, but still wouldn't have time to dry me, so the diffuser would have to work for me. The blowout appointment was with a different stylist so without asking me, she canceled it because the service wouldn't fully go to her. She cut my hair. She didn't butcher my hair by any means but she did not listen to what we discussed or make me feel, as a client, like I was being heard -- let alone any respect for what I both asked and was paying for. She said she was going to finish my ends after she dried it (she did not - her next client was there.) We explicitly discussed how I finger curl my hair if drying curly, and do not like tight ringlets. She had me put my head back to defuse and I came back up with poodle tight ringlets. There is no universe in which what my hair looked like would be described as "a good look." She also didn't finish my ends because her next client was already there, so it was only half done. She told me to give my hair 2 or 3 days to 'get used to it' and shooed me out of her chair. I have noticed they are pressed for time there because I've been openly told that, and made to feel uncomfortable about my medium length thick curls, so I booked the extra appointment to get a damn blowout. Which she canceled and gave me no other option. I had to make another appointment to get a blowout from Meura on 5th for my event -- which looked GREAT-- and noticed during that my ends are raggedy and uneven. I chose this salon because it's a woman-run small local business I wanted to support. This made me feel bad and I spent $90 on a half-done, half-assed waste of time. My job is essentially 24/7 so I understand deadlines and having a full day. I don't appreciate being made to feel small or that my requests for my own hair can't be met because of a lack of time, when I BOOKED the extra time. I will not be back. read more

I saw Hannah for color/blow dry. Do not come to see Hannah if you have curly thick hair and want color/highlights. I did a consult days before with her prior to the actual appointment. I even showed her photos of my old hair color with highlights which is what I wanted my hair to look like again. We agreed that she would bring out some highlights which would add depth to my hair. It was a disaster to say the least. After doing the highlights, there was no change to my hair! It's as if she did a whole one color process rather than any highlights nor did she add "depth" to it. She also half assed my blow dry. I left with frizzy big hair. I decided to go home to give it a day to see if anything changed color wise. She also told me if I wasn't happy to let her know. After consulting with friends, they said I should go back. The highlights were nonexistent, i couldn't even see them at all. When i went back, she did acknowledge they were "very subtle". So I went back the next day. She tried to take out some dye to make the highlights come out more, but lets just say that didn't work. Again, she tried to take more of the dye out, and she took too much out and I had strands of hair that looked brassy and orange. She said she felt uncomfortable letting me leave like that because after one or two washes, my hair would be even more orange. Hopefully third time works. So she tried AGAIN and finally made it semi decent enough for me to leave the hair salon. However, she again didn't really blow dry my hair like an actual professional. I've never seen anyone blow dry curly thick hair the way that she did. I actually think she might have done it on purpose because she had stayed passed her shift to fix the disaster she did to my hair. I told her it was a little frizzy and she said that it was because of all the stuff she had just done to my hair. It was a brillo pad. I must say she was "nice" during the whole process, however, not once did she apologize. She kept saying there was miscommunication. Just say sorry you messed up my hair given that you made me go back to the sink to put chemicals in my hair 3 times and took over 3 HOURS to make it look semi decent. She also said she's doing balayage and she's not charging me for it hahaah. I never asked for balayage. I just asked her to fix what she did. Oh and this was 3-4 days before my wedding. Any other bride would have asked for their money back but i couldn't deal anymore. Do not go here! It was also expensive. Go to places that are known for color and good blow dry for thick hair. read more

I have very long hair that I almost never get cut. On a whim, I decided to check out Sara June because it had great Yelp reviews, was close to my workplace, but also had a Yelp deal. The space is small but incredibly well designed and does not feel cramped, but instead very cozy and open. The decor is great--- a nice spin on the "brooklyn rustic" look, but not too over the top. Krista was my hairstylist, and she was a great listener. She is first hairstylist I've ever had who when I said "I'd just like a trim and to clean it up", she actually adhered to that and didn't take off more inches than I wanted. I have A LOT of hair and Krista did a great job with it, and was incredibly thorough and detail oriented. My hair looks fantastic now. She had some great ideas and was happy to make my "vision" for my hair come to life. She was also friendly, sweet and great to chat with. The hair wash was also increddddibly heavenly and I could've literally fallen asleep I was so relaxed. Sara, one of the owners, was also cutting at the same time and she seems very nice, kind and relaxed. Overall the vibe of Sara June seems relaxed and for a place that just opened a few months ago, they've got their kinks worked out. Everyone was on their game but still maintained a chill vibe. My haircut was 73$, and I gave a generous tip to Krista and the hair wash girl, so it was a total of $98. I'm coming out of an extreme Yelp hiatus to gush about how good of an experience I had at Sara June. I haven't necessarily had bad haircuts recently but none of them left me feeling excited the way Sara June did. Sara cut my hair and not only listened to what I wanted but was also very intuitive about the way my hair behaves and what would look best with my face shape. She also took my daily hair routine into consideration which I very much appreciated (as in I do nothing to it and mostly just wake up and go). I've gotten a ton of compliments on my bangs and a few of my girlfriends have commented on how they're "the perfect length." Sara used to cut my hair years ago in Utah, and I visited her once at Soon. When I was in NYC this week and knew she had opened her own salon, I came to check it out. Great little place in a cool part of town. She was busy the first two times I dropped in, but eventually she was available and offered me a beard trim, and then offered to touch up my hair. Although I had just had my hair cut two weeks ago, she has a way of convincing me to let her mess with it. I generally go to barbers now, but Sara has a sense of hair that is like no barber I have found. Which I kind of forgot until she did what she did. Anyway: I just got back to Utah, looked in the mirror, and I can't believe how much better I look. The change to my hair is not even perceptible; I just look way better. She's like an artist and I remember now what it's like to have someone that good work on my hair. I look better than I have in a long time. I had a dry men's cut, and it's kind of funny to think of how little I had to pay to look this much better. I recommend you make a reservation. This is a great place! I saw Sara. She toned my bleached, multi colored hair (with at least 2 inches of grey roots) to a pretty grey that will help me transition to my natural grey.
