I didn't think to stop for gas and got critically low, with no service to help me find out where the next station was. I was completely stressed out, until I saw that we were approaching Mill City, somewhere I'd been before. My phone finally got a signal, and I located this station 2 miles down the road. My fuel light was on the last bar as I pulled into the station. The attendant was great, and filled my car up for $3.09. We hit the road again, relieved to have survived that close call. The sky grew cloudy, but we were safe, and almost home.

It's a way long distance to the next nearest fuel if you don't have a Pacific Pride card or the ability to use commercial fuel services. Not such a huge deal anymore with the big Harleys having 5+ gallon fuel tanks and better mileage motors. But 30+ years ago, 100 or so miles was about the range of the average chopper which, "conveniently" was the distance from the Shell station in Estacada to Detroit. All gone now :( The wildfire that swept through Mill City, Gates and Detroit took out many homes and businesses, this store among them. I hope they are able to rebuild but even if they do, it will never be the same.

Getting gas here is a chore now…read more OK, so now you can pump your own gas in Oregon. I don't have a problem with that. But I DO have a problem with pumps that can take cards, but don't, with no attendants, forcing you to walk quite a ways across a lot into another building out of view of your car and wait in line. When you go to insert your card you're met with a little screen that says "Machine not currently taking cards. Please pay inside" or something like that. Even though the machine has a card reader, and I've used it before in the past under previous ownership. So OK, cool no problem. My legs aren't broken. I'll just walk inside. Now I have to wait in line at least 10 minutes behind people humming and hawing at what they want out of the deli case. Or to stare blankly at the menu as if they've never seen or heard of chicken on a stick before. I do finally get up there. I hand the kid my card. "How's it going? I'd like some gas. Fill on pump three please" He asks me how much? I say "a fill, I want to fill it up please" Then he asked me, well do you know like what dollar amount that's gonna be?. Really man? No, that's kind of what you're supposed to tell me after the car has been filled up. So they don't have the technology to put an authorization on my card, and then charge me what the total is when I'm done pumping the gas? Am I the only person that ever comes in and asks them to fill it up? Really? I say "Just give me $10" Only $10? "Yes please, thanks." (Just give me enough to get up the road to someplace that knows how gas stations are supposed to work.)

However, I stopped here to fill up a low tire on my vehicle and after putting my money in the air machine, I realized that the air hose was broken. I then filled up my fuel tank and went inside to pay. I told the clerk that the hose was broken and she said, "Yes, I know." I then said, "You could have at least put a sign on it before I paid my 75 cents for air." Her reply, "Oh, I meant to do that." Not once did she offer to give me a refund. I know it's only 75 cents but in my book, that's stealing from the customer. I'm sure I would be arrested if I stole a 75 cent item from their store.

I was afraid at first due to the reviews, but this place is way better than stopping at your regular rest stops in the side of the road. Bathrooms are way cleaner than rest stops, if you need snacks or drinks they have it all. There's even souvenir shopping if that's your jam. One of my traveling buddies was so impressed it was her first time to experience a travel center vs. rest stop. I assured her there are more like it and even larger. They were doing some construction outside but it didn't bother us.

Really tasty plump chicken tenders without even a hint of grease.Hand breaded makes for a Krispy Krunchy Chicken with a hint seasoning ( personally I would like more) Amount of food per order is too much for one meal so I had it for two ! Chunky fries and dipping sauces are also available.Evidently they sell so much it is always very fresh and if you can't eat it all at once it reheats well. Give it a try....you won't regret it !

She went out of her way to tell me to go ahead and get my fuel someplace else and that the next station was 16 miles away, as if I didn't know where I was. She also made a point of pulling her jacket open so I could read her name tag as she announced at high volume that her name is SAM. Ok Sam, good on you for running me off. I'll be sure to tell everyone I know what fine customer service skills you have. The most ridiculous part - there was no one at the pump behind me so even if I had backed in, to simply ask me to not do that again would have led to her realizing that I hadn't done it in the first place. When you come at someone with all that attitude there probably won't be much conversation Sammy ... Their prices are great, but I'll spend $4.00 more next time and skip the attitude.

And one added bonus, unleaded gas. That alone may not seem like a big deal to some, but to us boat owners it is. They are my local business and I pledge to always support local. It always amazes me that for gas, to save .05 - .10 cents per gallon, will drive blocks or miles and yet spend $5 for a cup of coffee. Things cost a little more here than the "big" city, but that is across the board. It's worth it and if you don't shop here, businesses won't be here. I fill up here a good 80% of the time. In a pinch visited here yesterday, pulled in, asked for $10 in gas on the card. We were informed that the minimum for a card is $15, no problem, asked for $15. Asked the guy if he would mind washing the windshield. His response was, "Nope." Our response, "excuse me?" His response, I'm only making like $.15 on this sale so no." "Okay.... so would you mind if I used your squeegee?" NO ANSWER. So louder, "Can I use your squeegee?" he just pointed and said it's over there. There happens to be Marines stuff in a few place, I was thinking to myself that i would never imagine saying that a Marine is lazy but this guy is lazy. Maybe he's not the Marine. Either way, he made $.15 off us that day and lost any future business that he would ever get from us. Living half way between the Mill City and the Lyons gas station, we will make sure to go to the Mill City station from now on. What happened to the days when people just valued a hard days work and that was part of the reward. If you need a better profit, then you mark your prices to get that profit, don't punish me for your business plan.
