They changed my 20 years old garage roof last year in June 2021. After their job, I noticed that there were several parts of the roof that were soft. I had a few other roofers to check it and they all said that the roof was poorly done and need to be completely removed and redone. Steve and his team did a great job with my full roof replacement. Our old tile roof leaked in many places so we opted for a brand new roof rather than multiple patch jobs. We chose Steve because he was prompt and very knowledgeable. He took care of everything, city permits, HOA approval etc. We just had to sign up and pick a color. The demo guys tore off the old tile then the roofers started repairing the old damaged wood. Two days later we had a brand new roof. It looks crafted no slapped together. The shingles are evenly spaced, and it is totally flat, there are no waves or breaks in the shingle pattern. After a heavy rainstorm, some water leaked into the house through a vent. During an inspection of the roof, I discovered several roof tiles were broken and several pipes and vents needed sealing. Though the roof was replaced years ago.. the damage uncovered recently was do to poor workmanship. Drip flashing was not properly installed, water penetrated and saturating the backside of fascia, causing paint to peel off front and backside. I don't care how old project is water should not have penetrated like that. In over 35 yrs of experience, I've never seen this... I've worked on old victorians and craftman style homes.. never ever.. At the beginning of summer we were noticing our roof was in really poor condition. So I called some highly yelp rated companies nearby. Both the estimates I got were as much as a new car! I know inflation is out of control right now but I couldn't accept OR afford that price. Complaining about it to my uncle, he told me he had his roof done by a guy named Steve from Santiago roofing for a phenomenal price. Although they are located in Brea, I gave Steve a call to see if my place (in Rosemead) would be in his area of service. He was at my house the next day. He was beyond kind and very knowledgeable. He sent me a bid within a few days and we were sold. He just completed our roof this week(we had to wait a few months on our end) and we could not be happier. His crew was amazing and professional and respectful. One of his guys told me he's been working for Steve over 18 years and his son was on the crew as well. I believe his roof work could be great but I would not recommend Santiago roofing to anyone because of his 'he's important than anyone else'. His exact words as a response to waiting for 10 min is "I wasted an hour of my day". "I am a busy guy and can't wait around while you do whatever. Good luck finding someone else" At first, he said he would come one Tue afternoon. Didn't show up; didn't follow up. He is very busy. I kept following up. We finally made an appointment for another Thur between 10 and 11. He didn't show up nor contact me at all. I followed up with him at 11:16 very kindly. We rescheduled to 12-12:30. I walked to the gate for my delivery at 12:17 but didn't bring my phone with me and went back to the house for the restroom. When I reached my phone I saw missed messages and calls from him. I called and texted and apologized immediately and ran to the gate. On the phone I said literally "I am sorry. I am at the gate." He said, "I waited. I am done!" and then hung up on me. I texted to apologize that I didn't have my phone for 5 min. His text back was "I waited 15 min+ min, not 5 min. I'm a busy guy and can't wait around while you do whatever. Good luck finding someone else." I double checked all the time stamps for our communication. It was 10 min. I feel very petty now that I'm writing this review. Yes it was my fault I didn't have my phone for 10 min. But I don't deserve his abusive attitude and language. I wouldn't want any service from someone like him. He made me feel he's an abusive boss. Steve did not do what he said he would do. He underbid job then added money after the job was started on some items as termite damage that he hadn't noticed when bidding job. Costs quickly added up. Unfortunately, once final payment was made at close of job, we never heard from him again responding to our concerns. We called after job was complete, saying some items needed to be addressed. He said he was on the road and would call us back. Each time we tried to contact him, we either got his voicemail or him saying he'd call us back. Because of this, these items were never addressed. I guess he figured we'd just get sick of calling and forget about it. --------------------- After being contacted and commented below by the owner Steve, I want to say that I use my nickname as my Yelp name and we did try several times to contact him after the job and he was nonresponsive. I will start by stating that I did not have any work performed by Santiago Roofing. However I thought it was important to post a review as my time is valuable and I believe most people feel the same. However, Steve apparently feels his time is more valuable than mine, maybe yours too. I scheduled 2 appointments this week with Steve to come out and provide an estimate for a new roof for my single family home. I am generally available before and after work or on weekends. I spoke with Steve last weekend and we set a 730 am appt for Thursday morning for an approx 30 minute appt time. Steve texted me at 640a on Thursday morning to let me know he would be unable to make it to our appt this morning due to problems being caused by crazy weather this week? It has been quite hot, not sure why that creates a problem for making it to a sunrise appt, but anyway I understand things happen and we reset the appt for 730 am today, Saturday morning. He said he would be here between 730-800a. I told him I had to leave by 815-830 so it needed to be closer to 730. He confirmed he would see me at 730a. Well... At 704a this morning he texted me again to let me know he could not make it to our appt. That he was at a job in Huntington Beach (which is 20-30 minutes from me) and we would have to reschedule for sometime next week. He added that early mornings are generally not good for him because he has to get crews started. (Note to Steve: don't set early morning appointments then... Problem solved!) Needless to say, I let him know I was not happy and I thought canceling 15 mins before an appt was unprofessional. He corrected me and said he gave me 30 minutes notice that he wouldn't be coming and that he apologized BOTH times (he was perplexed that I did not think that was good enough). He added that since he gave me "notice" that he wasn't going to keep the appt, that should be enough and he felt it was important to let me know that it was not unprofessional behavior. Well... we agreed to disagree... Well actually we didn't technically agree on that ... he became argumentative with me on the phone and I ended up just hanging up on him and blocking his calls (as I could see on my phone that he was writing another response on our text thread). So you be the judge, unprofessional? Or no? How much is your time worth? Mine is worth more... I'll seek out another contractor, and I don't doubt that all will turn out just fine! :-) I guess I should be thankful... Better to find out now rather than after I have spent and lost more than just my time. Ps- this is my first yelp review because I usually don't bother but this one needed to be written. read more

I just had my roof done by Santiago Roofing and they did an amazing job. I rarely rave about contractor's but Steve is honestly awesome. I received bids from about 15 roofers and about 12 of them quoted me several thousand more than Steve, and the other 2 were clearly amateurs (not bonded, insured, etc.). Two of my neighbors, who were also happy customers of Santiago roofing recommended them, and I had a great feeling about Steve and Santiago Roofing from the get go. He quoted a fair price and was very professional. The job was honestly impressive. Steve had my old roof (2 layers of wood shake and shingles) off, replaced some rotting or damaged wood, put down all new plywood, and put up new paper on the first day. The second day he replaced all my vents, installed a new electric vent, and did all of the shingles. Two days and the entire roof was complete. I also wanted the high end shingles (Presidential) and Steve worked with me so I could afford it. I am thrilled to be able to write a glowing review for Steve and Santiago Roofing. Our roof was in desperate need of being replaced, and I was not looking forward at the likely nightmare I was looking at when it came to the project. From experience I have always found that projects of this size go over budget, over time, and are way more inconvenient than what you expect. And after having a few people come out to bid on the project my worst fears were starting to come true. Fortunately the local roofing materials company gave me Steve's number - and from the very beginning I could not have been happier with my experience with him. He is extremely friendly and honest which greatly helped alleviate the initial concerns I had with the project. Wasted my time and I couldn't even get a quote. I tend to do my research before even contacting the vendors. Santiago was highly recommended by ND and and high rating on Yelp so I decided to give Steve a call. Our rental property had a leak over the rainy season earlier this year. I needed someone to come out and give us an estimate. I have already gotten 2 other estimates and was waiting on a 3rd to make the final decision. After about a week of phone calls, Steve finally made it out to the property and looked over the roof. He said he would send me the estimate right away. I gave him my email and he confirmed he got it and will send it over. After a week, nothing. I followed up with him again via text and calls several time with no response. I couldn't wait any longer and risk the rain coming back again so I decided to go with one of the other vendor that I had already gotten the estimate from. From the estimate mtg, Santiago Roofing was able to answer every question I wanted asked, without me there grilling them so, that's the first win. We were asking for our ridgecaps to be replaced (way overdue), but no issues with the roof otherwise. Santiago roofing provided a typed estimate that was extremely reasonable. While due to a job overlap they did show up a bit late, we were notified of the delay and kept informed, 2nd win. Beyond the job, it was recommended that all the roof pipes be painted to match the roof and that they were doing this as part of the work unasked. When the crew arrived, there were 2-3 guys, that got to work immediately. Knowing what kind of mess was coming off the roof, I decided to leave so that I didnt have to witness plants trampled or trash all over the garden. Honestly, that's the experience I normally get... not in this case. When I pulled in the driveway, 3 hours later, they were completely gone... there was no trash anywhere and I swear, I stared with my mouth open... the roof looked amazing. The ridgecap color is an EXACT match and I never realized how ugly all the different rusted pipes up there made it look. My husband tells me they identified a bowing spot on the roof line and pulled back the shingles to see if they could get it nailed down better. Looks kind of the same to me, but they didnt even have to do this... these guys want a quality job even if it's slightly outside the scope. I have to say, excellent local business, polite, fast/clean/detailed work. AMAZED, and a little irritated I didn't fix my previously ugly roof sooner. Such a good price and no hassle. I bought a house in Anaheim almost two years ago. I knew the roof wasn't in the best shape but I had pushed it into the back of my mind while I focused on other more urgent repairs. We had a few days of really heavy rain in mid-January. It was then that I noticed a fairly large water stain on my living room ceiling.
