Computers never break down at a convenient time, and mine was no exception. My laptop's hard drive, via recurrent error messages that would appear upon start-up, was threatening to completely fail in the midst of several time sensitive projects I was working on. Ricardo at SBPC Tech assured me over the phone that there was a very good chance he could perform a simple cloning procedure onto a new hard drive and save me the hassle of having to rebuild my entire system (OS/data/software/preferences) from scratch. BUT, if I pressed my luck and continued to try to use my computer, I risked total failure and it would be a lot more complicated. On the Thursday night of my east coast vacation in August of 2020, my laptop, with two and a half years of my dissertation on it, would not turn on. No lights, no sound, nothing. Being a software person, I am chided for attempting to fix hardware myself, so when my computer finally stopped charging or starting, I knew it was time to reach out to a qualified individual. The effected parts were sourced - they were not a perfect match the first go, so a second attempt was made. All charges were extremely reasonable and they took the time to clear off a bogus program on my computer and tighten up the DC port that was loose when I brought it in, too! He ran diagnostics, advised me on what he discovered and gave me his recommendation on my best next steps. Ricardo is actually the best. I had a bunch of weird problems with my Lenovo yoga 3 pro including a broken space-bar, cracked screen, flickering screen, and more. My wife's computer got hit with the latest and worst version of locky ransomware. Almost everyone I spoke to said to use the computer for a doorstop or trivet because it was a total lost cause. Called to see about getting a part replaced/fixed for the keyboard on my laptop. He advised over the phone that the part isn't likely available on it's own, and recommended a specific home fix or what to look for on eBay. Some places would take appointments only, several couldn't be bothered with my type of repair (new screen replacement).
