One of my favorite places to go get a tri-tip burrito! I actually had no idea that there was a Chicken Ranch on Fairview so I had to go try it and I'm happy I went! My friend brought take out here and when we got home to eat it we were severely disappointed. Coleslaw tasted chemically as if it had spoiled and someone was trying to cover it up. I think a container of the smoked salsa instead of whatever was in it would have been a better choice. Much more flavor. The chicken was dry but the skin had the grilled smokiness. I ordered a two piece chicken and coleslaw dish and my hubby ordered a chicken burrito with beans. No rice and I fill out with cheese. Four stars because the coleslaw taste was just OK added some roasted tasting salsa that they had in it made it delicious. Use their disposable hand towels for the chicken cleanup. I walked past SB Chicken Ranch a few times while running a few errands and never really paid it any mind. However, after realizing it's a local favorite, I decided to give in (with chicken in the name though, my expectation were pretty high). One step into the establishment and I felt like I should be wearing cowboy boots with a hat to match. If you want to feel like you're dining in a midwestern barn, you're in luck. This is the perfect place for you. I got the chicken burrito and the 1/2 chicken plate. To say it looked appetizing would be an exaggeration. My phone did not take one bite (hence the lack of photo). The chicken was... chicken. There was no flavor, no juice, but at least it wasn't pink. It's how I would imagine people eat their chicken during that "75 Hard" challenge or if you're prioritizing protein and cutting the calories. The sides were okay. The burrito was lacking (and the size of an empty paper towel roll). If you've never popped in, you're not missing much. I've had better chicken from an El Pollo Loco. read more

The name makes you think you're about to get some really good chicken, but it just doesn't live up to it. I went in with high hopes, but it missed the mark. The chicken is edible, but it's seriously lacking in flavor. It doesn't have that seasoned, juicy kick you'd expect from a place that specializes in chicken. The SB Chicken Ranch is popular among locals. As someone not originally from this area, I don't see the attraction. Perhaps childhood memories? All I can hear is the little boy's voice on their news hour commercial stating "it's simply theee best!" I use to get the tri tip here but always thought it didn't have that much flavor compared to other Santa Maria style grilled meat spots in town. I then tried their chicken which is often too dry for my liking and often more white meat than my preference of dark meat. Now what I do go to "the Ranch" for is their quesadilla. They are three slices of a monster-sized flour tortilla stuffed with lots of melted, orange cheese. You can go to their salsa bar and help yourself to an original, asada or pico de gallo--plus fermented onions or curtido of jalapeños and carrots. I wish they had a quesadilla meal similar to the kid's meal with an adult quesadilla with a side of rice and beans. Nonetheless, I have found what I do enjoy here for down the road. read more

When I'm in the area, I will typically have lunch here with co-workers. Love the atmosphere, the basic menu and the fact that the menu is fairly Healthy. The chicken plates are my favorite. If your into tri tip than you will like the tri tip plate option as well. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my tri tip and this happens when your used to Santa Maria style. The tri tip here is decent but not my favorite. The chicken plates come in 1/4, 1/2 and full or you can mix and match with tri tip. You get a choice of sides (which are pretty small but filling). Tortillas, chips, beans, rice.... They also have a good salsa bar (and I always take a small cup home ). Chicken is tasty, sides are good (but nothing amazing ) it's just an overall good place to eat. Staff were not overly friendly or helpful which is fine but don't expect a good tip if your not friendly and just taking my order from the counter. read more

Love their chicken! Just drive by the neighborhood and your nose will have you turning into the parking lot to get some. Honestly, I could skip the rice, beans, and tortillas they give you and just eat 3 or 4 pieces of chicken. It's that good. The tri tip is another winner. I came in around 1545 12/10/23 and ordered an BRC burrito. They gave me a number and 10 minutes later, they gave me a burrito. After about 5 minutes of eating the burrito they report they gave me the wrong Burrito and they need that one back. I said, I had already started eating it and it taste like a BRC burrito to me. They took away the burrito half eaten. After that I start eating the chips, then they come and take the chips away. My husband and I decided to go and eat at this restaurant. They served us quickly. We barely had time to eat the guacamole and chips, then came out meals a second later. I thought "wow good Service, that was fast". Until, I ate the chicken. The chicken was dry and didn't taste very good. My husband got the tri-tip. He told me the tri- tip did not taste good and it was cold. The rice tasted like yesterday and mix it with today rice. The Horchata drink was WAY to sweet. Quick and easy tri-tip that will warm the cockles of your heart when the home made salsa is applied liberally. The Chicken Ranch may not serve up legal prostitution in Santa Barbara but you will get excited for the good taste and value you receive from this popular lunch spot. Although there is some mighty fine grilled chicken offered, I go for the tri-tip. Sure it's no Texas BBQ brisket but there is also no thick and spicy sauce added with patato salad. Just grilled meat and it's juices which add great flavor and a change from the heavy. Sandwiches are available but ditch the bread and go with a 1/4 or 1/2 lb plate lunch served with pinto, rice and hot tortillas. The salsas are pretty good though, so they might be able to save your meals. Service for me, however, was phenomenal, as the servers were very accomodating and followed through making sure things were prepared the way I requested. Mesquite-grilled meat - nothing quite like it. I've been a fan of SB Chicken Ranch ever since they had opened up in their Goleta location. I was a teenager at the time and an employee at the neighboring Vons grocery store. Needless to say, many of my lunch/dinner breaks were spent here. I came to love their simple but hearty menu. Restaurants can confuse the patron when there are dozens of items to order. Not here - just the basics which I enjoy. I'm a big proponent to their tri tip burrito which is positively loaded with fillings - and the staff certainly don't skimp on the meat! I also loved how this location once sold the Orange Bang drink, no matter how sugary it was. It was a favorite of mine and I didn't know of any other restaurant in the area that sold it. I've also had SB Chicken Ranch cater events and must say that the execution as a whole was very professional. The food was packaged well and my guests were all in awe.
