Pretty good meal in an old house that has been refurbished into a restaurant. Chips came with fresh salsa and a bean dip. Nice. We ordered the trio dip for an appetizer. That was just ok. Yum! I loved this place and the food was outstanding! I wish I lived in the area because I would eat here ALL THE TIME. My colleague and I started with margarita's - of course. They were excellent. Our server delivered mine balanced on his head! I was impressed. A little silly fun to start the evening. I went with the Loca Molcajete. I cannot tell you how good this was. It was served in a huge dish with tortillas and I had a side of rice and beans. The meat and veggies were seasoned so perfectly and the pineapple was the perfect unexpected twist and really made the dish pop. My colleague went with the Gringo Chimi and said that the chicken was cooked very well. Flavorful and not dry. The portions were huge and I left with a full second meal and then some. Wow! Who expects to find such a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Appleton, Wisconsin? We were staying at a VRBO very near and we ate here 3 of the 4 nights we stayed. The other night we ate at nearby Tipsy Taco which is owned by the same people. We are very picky about our Mexican food and have eaten at many places across the US. This is the best we've had outside of Mexico. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Service was great and very friendly. We like to practice our Spanish and we were able to do that here. Highly recommend this place! read more

I have been a long time customer and fan of Sangria's. My favorite mexican restaurant in the valley. Well it was until this last thursday. No complaints about the food or the wait staff, but the manager (did not get his name) flat out lied to my friend and I as we arrived to order lunch on the 15th. Both of us are handicapped and there was just enough ice left in the parking lot to make it dangerous. So the last few times we have been at Sangria's, there are always two vehicles parked in the close parking spots. The same two vehicles are always there. I asked for the manager and he did come out to speak to us. I pointed out that being handicapped, it is important to be able to park close. I asked why these 2 vehicles are always there. He pretended to not know the answer. Said he would check if it was employees. Came back and lied to us that one of them was just there for a pickup order. That car was there when I pulled up at 10:40 A.M. There were no other customers, since we were the first 2. I am not a betting man, but the pickup truck probably belongs to the manager. So we left and are not planning on coming back. I just want to owners to be aware that the current manager is not worthy of their great restaurant. Most restaurants do not let employees or managers take the best parking spots. It's a shame he may had had to walk an extra 20 feet. That 20 feet is a long way for me, especially when it is icy. Where else can you get a jumbo homemade margarita with decent tequila (no Jose Cuervo does not count as decent tequila) for $6? We love getting our friendly waitress, Stacie, who treats everyone as her friend. Hey Friend! When in Appleton you will find me at Sangrias for dinner on Tuesday or Thursday, if not both. Words can't even describe this place! Just horrible even the employees talk bad about the place and work conditions! Won't disclose what employees but even they say issues with order happen often and even the unsanitary kitchen conditions are insane! They say Sara the owner has done nothing to make changes and continues to cook food that could cause people to get sick. Please think twice before going here and other employees such as Phil and Rebecca are clueless when it come to customer service!! Revived an uncooked chimichanga with cold vegetables from the inside!! Rebecca literally said "do you want us to drop it in the fryer again" after it was cut and with only 1 bite taken! We live in San Diego, right next to Mexico. We eat Mexican food regularly. I must say this is the best Mexican food we've eaten in the central northern states where we've had family living for 40 plus years. Carnitas, carne asada, guacamole, salsas, beans all delicious and authentic. We loved our dinner and are so happy our family has moved to Appleton!! Very clean and knowledgeable staff. Great food. I am vegetaria and I do not eat the beyond meat. I ordered a chimichanga and mentioned above to the waitress and she said we can just substitute vegetables in place of meat-perfect for me! I have worked in restaurants off and on since I was 13 (parents owned a restauran) the staff worked so well together. I have a habit of putting dishes at the end of the table to see if anyone clears them, the dishes were gone in seconds. The food was great! some of the best Mexican I have ever eaten. My nieces live a hour and half away, they were wondering how they could get there husbands there for a meal. read more

Wish I would have sent back the Margaritas we originally ordered. $25 mistake. Next the food. The online menu differed slightly from the restaurant so I needed to find something else and ended on fajitas, the steak was amazing the chicken tasted strange. It was all very hit or miss. Service was good. Selection of imported beers was good. But the food fell flat in flavor overall and portions were not as expected. The burritos are extremely small for the price. This is definitely a whitewashed "upscale Mexican restaurant" and it may good for the area. But it's not up to par with me and what I expect from a good Mexican restaurant. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and very affordable prices! We decided to dine in on a random weekday and took our late lunch out on the deck - comfortable, quick and very friendly service. They were patient as we perused the menu - and overall we were quite pleased with our meal! Didn't love the papas con chorizo (the purée was oddly sweet?) but the rest was good! We also ordered a 2nd time a few weeks later through EatStreet delivery and food was great again! I was wowed by the huge portion size of my husband's carne asada plate upon delivery! I came here to have drinks, conversation and snack on some appetizers with a girlfriend yesterday evening. Atmosphere: It does not have a very large parking lot, but there is street parking available. They have downstairs and upstairs seating. A lot of vibrant colors and murals are on the walls, and from what I saw there are only tables, no booths (we were seated on the second floor though). Service: The hostess was attentive and so was our server. They let you be, but still made sure you had everything you needed. (One star awarded) Drinks: I had their classic margarita and my friend had the premium margarita. The premium margarita was $11. The classic was $8 I think. Both of them tasted like bland lime water, although the premium had a tiny bit more flavor since they used a better tequila vs. the blanco that was in their classic margarita. I would not order drinks here again. Onto the chips and salsa complimentary. The chips are chips, they taste like what you would buy in a store, a standard corn chip. The salsa was not anything I was interested in. I did not like the texture or flavor. The bean dip with the chorizo added to it was one of my favorite bean dips I've had (one star awarded). We ordered two appetizers since we weren't too hungry. The table-side guacamole and the napolitos side salad. The cactus was cooked well and was cleaned properly and was a very inexpensive dish (it literally is cactus, cheese and pico de gallo sprinkled on top). However the table-side guacamole left so much to be desired for $10. The presentation when they set up next to out table looked magnificent, but when inspecting closer, all the ingredients looked old and dried out and the avocado wasn't the ripest. When she was done making it, the taste reflected the quality of the ingredients and was nothing other than forgettable. Maybe it was an off night since it was a Monday, but this isn't a place I will be making an effort to return to any time soon. read more

Wait time on drinks was too long if you are waiting for one of there awesome Margaritas. They have a great selection of higher tier tequilas!! I will return for that reason alone. I understand why people would be frustrated with slow service but you can call ahead and they are friendly. I can deal with friendly and slow but slow and nasty is another thing. The food was straight up bad. I haven't been served food this bad in restaurant in years. We are from Arizona and have high expectations as far as Mexican food goes, I was hoping for average. I don't know what this garbage is supposed to be but this is not real Mexican food. I cannot fathom how this restaurant has a 4 1/2 star rating. I ordered the flaming tequila. Shrimp, I asked for the broccoli to be left out because never in my life have I ever seen or heard of broccoli in a Mexican dish. The wrong dish came out, it was the bacon wrapped shrimp. I sent it back and asked for the original dish that I ordered. The flaming tequila shrimp dish came out, there was broccoli in it. I was going to let it go and try it. It was literally tasteless. I had my daughter try it, just to make sure that I suddenly didn't come down with Covid. I took three bites out of it, when the waiter came back and asked how everything was I told him I didn't like it and it wasn't good. He asked me if I wanted him to bring out the bacon wrapped shrimp dish for me to try. The dish came out, it was very odd looking. I took one bite and had to spit it out. The bacon on the outside was super crispy and raw in the middle. The waiter said, it's a good thing that wasn't the dish that you ordered. Well the original dish that I ordered was no Bueno, but that wasn't addressed. I was still charged for the food that I only took three bites out of. It was cr@p. I can't imagine putting any of this food on a tortilla and calling it Mexican food. Please for the love of dog, take these so-called specialties off of your menu. read more

Who would think that Appleton Wisconsin would be the site of a truly excellent Mexican restaurant. Even the refried beans (like glue in most such places) are prepared with herbs and seasonings to make that dish interesting. Their tomatilla sauce has just the right amount of piquancy, so i do recommend the enchilladas verdes. It turns out that the recipes and much of the cooking, all come from the family matriarch. It is located in a large repurposed house within walking distance of the towntown area, and there is plenty of parking. Good Margaritas, too - they use decent tequila. read more

I love sangrias, always stop for a margarita when I'm close by. They have fresh food, a lot of selection on the menu and complimentary chips salsa and bean dip. Bar area is super small, but cozy. I love the patio renovation they did. The couple times I did not eat at the bar, we had iffy service and a lot of our food order was messed up in larger groups. I was craving Mexican food tonight! I decided, since I've never tried Sangria's, that I would order some take out. I ordered the El Patrone Fajitas. This dish come with steak, chicken, pork, shrimp and chorizo; with sautéed onions, green pepper, red pepper and your choice of two sides! I went with the poblano rice and the refried beans. I chose the hand pressed tortillas. The food was fantastic! The Chorizo was perfectly grilled and very tasty, the shrimp was deliciously seasoned, the chicken and steak were moist and juicy, and the pulled pork was succulent! The mixed sautéed vegetables had wonderful flavor, and the poblano rice was great! I especially enjoyed the hand pressed tortillas! Very yummy! The service here was also excellent! The lady who took my order was very friendly and personable, and they had my order ready exactly when they said they would! Another restaurant I wish I could give more than three stars. I was skeptical. Coming from Nashville, which is not known for good Mexican, to a Mexican restaurant even further away from Mexico. But Sangria's did not disappoint. The queso was very good, and the carne asada was a very generous portion, with plenty of sides and garnish. It was a very good value. The margarita was good, plenty of lime juice.
