I've been here a number of times in the last 12 months. I finally convinced my partner to try it 3 weeks ago ago. She loved it! Yesterday we needed to grab a quick lunch and she suggested we go there. The entrance to the parking lot is a mess, but the sandwiches are always first rate. They even have Coke in the original glass bottles without the corn syrup! My goal is to eat everything on the menu. The food is always fresh with organic ingredients wherever possible. The service is great, and the space is always sparkling clean. I'll always look here first whenever possible. We had an extremely troubling experience with the new ownership of Sandwich Republic. We paid approximately $30 using tap-to-pay on our phone. Our bank showed that the transaction went through, but the owner insisted that he had not received the payment. He asked us to run the card again, suggesting that if we were charged twice, perhaps our bank would credit one of the charges. We called our bank, and the bank confirmed that we had already been charged and told us they could not simply reverse the transaction. At that point, we decided not to take our food and to leave. Because the owner was claiming he hadn't received our payment, I specifically asked him to simply write on a piece of paper that we were leaving without receiving our order. I wanted documentation showing that we had not received any food in case we needed to dispute the charge. He refused to put that in writing. He repeatedly told us that this had never happened in his 20 years in business, even though this restaurant is under new ownership. When we continued trying to resolve it, he told us it wasn't his problem, told us to call the police, and refused to work with us. We ultimately disputed the charge with our bank because we were charged approximately $30 and received no food. What makes this situation even more upsetting is that, according to the information we subsequently received through our dispute, the merchant responded by claiming that we DID receive the food. When I caught the discrepancy while picking up my order, I was REFUSED a refund. And, I was told it was "the computer's fault," by the woman taking my order. She clearly understood the issue. Today was my second time here and I wanted to order something a little bit lighter and with less calories. I got the shrimp salad sandwich which was outstanding. I could tell the shrimp was fresh, likewise the lettuce and other toppings. The last time I came here so ordered the meatball sandwich and it was good as well, however it was a lot of food and I was practically falling asleep by the afternoon. The other thing is that there were more people working here today so the ordering process was faster. This place used to be my go-to for lunch for about 10 years. The food and the customer service were great. Since new ownership has taken over, the customer service has declined drastically! They overcharge the price of food when ordering online and refuse to acknowledge or correct when asked about it. They nickel and dime for everything. You have to pay extra to have your sandwich pressed, to get salad dressing mixed in instead of on the side, etc. and they are not friendly or helpful at all. I hate that the old owners left. This is our favorite sandwich shop in the DMV area! I used to go here all the time until I moved away in 2021. I recently moved back into the area and was nervous that the sandwiches wouldn't be as good as before, however, they were even better than I remembered. I split the galbi sandwich and Cuban sandwich with my husband and both were excellent. All the sandwiches I've gotten here have a lot of flavor, have a perfect balance of ingredients, and they're never dry. This is also the only sandwich spot I've found with great gluten free sandwich options. They used to only offer gluten free wraps but since the last time I was here they've added gluten free bread as an option which is nice. I usually order online and pick up the sandwiches. Once I figure out how to get into the parking lot the signs were clear directing you to the restaurant. There is parking in the back and the entrance is on the side. I ordered mine with extra marinara hold the arugula. The meatball sandwich comes with onions, arugula, provolone & parmesan cheese and marinara sauce. I also ordered the peanut butter and double chocolate chip cookie that was soft in the middle and crunchy on the edges....yum. My plan when I looked them up on Yelp originally was to get the Cuban but I am not sure how the owner new but he said "it's spicy" and I said great catch...I must look like I cant do spicy (lol). They post the special sandwich of the day on their Facebook page. The staff was friendly and the sandwich was made quickly and they even wrapped each half separately for me. I wanted to eat a couple of bites in the store and possibly at the stop light without making a mess. I am not a soda drinker and they did not have ice tea so I passed on the drink and potato chip combo for $2.99 (additionally).
