To be fair, there were 15-20 of us, and we did give a heads up, but I think they ended up having some employees OOO that day. Truly, the staff was so friendly! It took a good while to get our drinks and food. Again, I think they were scrambling a bit that day and our big group became a lot. Ultimately, we all got what we ordered. Otherwise, the place is BEAUTIFUL. patio in all the trees, I could sit there all day. I'd absolutely come back, with a smaller group - maybe 10 or less ha - and enjoy some wine. Great place for an organized getaway gathering. Beautiful setting and such a pretty drive to get here from Winston Salem NC. Passing large tract farms with mountains off in the distance. Then when get to the hall at Sanders Ridge such a warm design and hosting. Backed by story of 180 years continual family farm now vineyard operations. Loved to hear how all the wood in the structure was remilled and touched by our hostesses' father's hand. A long lasting legacy. This is such a beautiful location for a winery. It's a little out of the way and hard to get to if you're not familiar with the area. It is worth the drive though! I was pleasantly surprised at the size and exquisite rustic chic look of the main building. Just beautiful! They had a very nice food menu and I was told that their Sunday brunch is amazing. I visited Sanders Ridge with a friend for lunch. This is a beautiful winery and vineyard. The lodge is able to accommodate a large number of guests and is just beautiful inside. We ordered a bottle of wine along with a bowl of soup and cheesecake. The food was excellent, the atmosphere welcoming and the service was great. Attended what was advertised as beach music event and only one beach music song was played. To me that is false advertising. Food was ok. Waitresses served my husband a plate but left the rest of the table unserved while they finished another table. Normally you finish serving one table at the time. And aren't women served first at a table? Every time food was brought to the table the men were served first. Event was not worth the $45 a person we paid. Sanders Ridge Winery is the perfect place for a relaxing afternoon drinking wine. Start your experience by driving past their vast, aesthetic vineyards. After parking walk inside (with your mask on). The friendly staff/owners (Shores) greet you upon arrival and are also wearing masks. Get ready to be amazed at the beautiful woodwork. They have a spacious interior with ample seating along with several outdoor areas. Everything happens on site from the growing of the grapes to the making and selling of the wines. We decided to sip the wine under their gazebo by the pond. They have new flight boards custom built from old wine barrels. While enjoying their flavorful wines, we fed the hungry bluegill fish in the pond (for a quarter). Here are the wines we tried: 2016 Viognier - tastes like eating a fresh apricot. Definitely bought a bottle of this. 2015 Cabernet Franc - earthy, flavorful, like eating an oak tree (but much more pleasant) 2015 Merlot - sour, flavor is comparable to sour cherries, too strong for my taste 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon - rich flavor, one of my favorites. 2019 Muscat Canelli - also bought a bottle of this. It was delicious, sweet with hints of apple and honey. They do host weddings so be sure to check their schedule before arriving - via their website or Facebook. When you walk in, they have pamphlets available with the wedding information and pricing. Due to COVID-19, they offer an affordable micro-wedding option. Visited this winery during a wine tour with friends. It was a great choice! The wine was good and they had varieties of different wines - white, red, rose. They also have a kitchen with food options as well, which was very good! Inside the tasting room, there is mostly all wood - like a huge cabin. The wood beams and bar/counter tops are made from the wood that comes from the actual property. That was an interesting fact! I believe a family member or friend carved all of the wood and had it installed. So it's truly a building from the land it's on! They also have ziplining right on the property! Didn't get a chance to do it, so planning to go back and have fun with that! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. They helped make decisions and choices a lot easier. Definitely try this winery out if you have a chance! read more

We came to Sanders Ridge as part as a birthday winery tour.  This was one of the wineries that we selected as we had not gone to.  It was our third stop of the day. There was a couple leaving when we got there, but those were the only people we saw that day, so we ultimately had the winery to ourselves. Service was still great and friendly. We each did a wine flight - I cannot locate my notes on what we tried and liked, but this was my favorite winery of the day, as I really enjoyed the wines on my flight. We came home with bottles of peach mango (2), pineapple, blackberry, sangria, and sugar and spice. My favorite was the peach mango. I also recall their carlos muscadine being very good, a nice traditional muscadine wine, but we just had plenty of muscadine wines at home. Definitely will have to come back to the winery when we can try a slushy and also get a glass - did not even think about purchasing a glass since the flights were in disposable cups. read more

Took a glass on the porch and the fruit flies were so bad that about a dozen got into my wine before I even knew it. I only got about a sip. The lady inside said yeah they can get bad, but she hadn't warned me or given me a coaster to put over my glass before I went out. I asked if I could get a credit towards a bottle of wine so I could take it home, but they were completely inflexible and unaccommodating. I will not be returning. It's a shame because their wine isn't that bad, but the experience and customer service was terrible. I can get wine just as good from a friendlier spot. read more

Good experience and really good wine. We made Sanders Ridge our first stop for a recent Yadkin Valley wine trip, and I'm so glad this was the first, because it became a watermark to compare the other wineries. We had the pleasure of being served by Neil, the owner, who has farmed the land around the winery his whole life. While pouring the wine, he spent time telling us about the wine we were drinking, the area, and even a little about himself (we asked). In addition to the good company, the wine was quite enjoyable. I'm not one to buy wine at every winery I visit, but I made a point of buying a few tasty bottles on my way out. I'd recommend the cab franc. The winery is located back in the woods alongside the vineyard. The winery itself is in a gorgeous wooden cabin built with wood from the property. The location and building make it a relaxing and inviting spot year-round. Oh, make sure to plan your stop here around lunch or dinner. Went here today with some friends on a rainy, fall day. We were greeted nicely, seated at a beautiful table outside, and enjoyed a good lunch and some ok wines. Perfect, right? I won't be back. At the start, our "wine steward" described the available wines, and offered samples, if we would like. We each ordered one on her offer, and went on to confirm our choices by ordering glasses and bottles, including one bottle to go. It wasn't until we checked out, however, that we discovered we were charged $1.50 for each of the 5 samples ordered. Clearly, it's not the cost that is so disappointing. Rather, it was the blatant dishonesty in her initial suggestion to try a sample, in which a charge for doing so was neatly omitted. We didn't abuse the samples offered by ordering multiples, and we went on to purchase wine after confirming our choices. The subsequent purchases should have negated the sample charges, IMHO, especially given that we weren't even given the courtesy of such charges up front. Looking ahead, we will definitely be wiser next time. There are other wineries that, I'm confident, want our business. They'll get it after this disappointing interaction. read more

My husband and I took a getaway weekend trip in early April to Sanders Ridge. We stayed 2 nights in the cabin on the premises and enjoyed two wonderful meals in the restaurant. There was a wine tasting included in our cabin rental as well. I can honestly say that it was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable weekends we've had in quite a while. The cabin is very cozy and well appointed with everything we needed. I particularly enjoyed the back porch where I sat and had an incredibly peaceful morning coffee - there's just something special about wrapping up in a blanket on a chilly morning and sitting outside with your hands warmed up by a good cup of coffee. Bliss. The dinner we had was delightful and we were able to enjoy it sitting outside on the deck overlooking the pond. The new chef has created a fantastic menu and we relished every bite. Breakfast was just as delightful and we left feeling well fed and well taken care of. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and we enjoyed talking with Jennifer and learning the history of the farm and winery. Even if we are unable to return to the cabin, we will definitely return to the restaurant to enjoy another meal and to purchase some more wines. Thank you to everyone at Sanders Ridge for all you did to make our much needed weekend away a special one. read more

Five stars doesn't come around for me very often. My wife and I came across this place while sampling various wineries in the Yadkin Valley area. Not only is the tasting room beautiful, it is also run by great people who make you feel extremely welcome. There is food available for purchase, so it is a great place to have lunch or an early dinner with your tasting. Now, the most important part is the wine: these wines are very well crafted, each with a distinct flavor profile and a wide scope of tastes. Our favorite was the bold and zesty "57". We will most certainly be back. This is our favorite winery in the area by far. read more

Our recent trip to Sanders Ridge Vineyard and Winery was great! And it was so easy to find with the use of my handy GPS. We took a walk through the rows of vines and grapes on this magnifcent sunny afternoon. In between our lunch/brunch we went on the Big Woods zip line that was right there at the same location. After zipping we had a great lunch that included tasting of some of the great wines at Sanders Ridge. We received a tour of the winery to see the oak barrels...and smell the aromas of wine fermenting! Awesome awesome awesome! I have to go back again before winter! read more

Great winery, vineyard, restaurant with a lot to offer. Located right down the road from Rag Apple Lassie. There's so much to do here that you can make a day out of tasting wine, dining in the restaurant, feeding fish and turtles in the pond, riding the zip line, and picking grapes. This place is great for all ages. Our family had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is a gem. The food is delicious and affordable, and the service is superb. After we ate they gave us a bag for picking grapes off the vine - chardonnay, chambers??, and muscadine. For free. The zip line costs $40 per person - they have harnesses and 15+ platforms, so it is the real deal. We didn't try it but it looks like it would be a great activity for a small group. read more

Our family and friends have been dining at Sanders Ridge, quite literally since Opening Night; and I can testify to some of the most exquisite, imaginative, beautifully prepared and served food having come from this kitchen. If you remember the glory days of this restaurant, you may be very, very disappointed, now. It's been a little more than a year, and finding myself with a break in an increasingly hectic schedule, I decided to just take an evening for myself, and visit my old friends in Yadkinville. I had called ahead for reservations, but was told I didn't need one; and when I arrived the parking lot was disturbingly empty...as was the restaurant! A young couple was dining by a window; and I was offered ANY other table in this massive building! We're talking about Saturday night, at a previously well thought of establishment, where classically Country and Bluegrass bands entertained enthusiastic audiences of people willing to drive considerable distances for the Sanders Ridge experience! But, now...NO bright chatter of conversations (from area celebrities, authors and artists...National level politicians, even!) around candlelit tables, no warm wafting of cooking and baking smell...all gone! I'll tell you about the food; and that perhaps explains part of the problem; but another problem is Staff. The third component, of what seems pretty much a disaster to me, is that the business, according to the webpage, changed hands about a year ago. a stated as well-credentialed Chef either bought into, or "bought" outright the Sanders Ridge Restaurant and according the the outrageous Bill is now The Hearth Restaurant. Sanders Ridge, the vineyards and winery remaining under the same ownership and operation. So, let me tell you about the food. I first ordered a crab cake, which was very good; in fact, I called waitress over and said "This is really good: do me another, just like this one!" And the second was as good as the first. I ordered it sans the lettuce offered, so it arrives with a very good, but...familiar - tasting remoulade, and a color-mixed medley of fresh, fragrant miniature tomatoes (pic below). But...that is where, for practical purposed, the meal ended. I'll use the comparison of Firebirds Ribeye, simply because Firebirds steaks are consistent, are instantly replaced should one luck into...a rare, unfortunate error on their part, and the charge for 14 ounces is in the same...general ballpark...about $26.00 for Firebirds (including a huge, fluffy baked potato stuffed with butter, sourcream, chives and bacon bits), with the "Aged Ribeye" at the former Sanders Ridge/The Hearth Restaurant coming in at...a few dollars more, served with my choice of some pleasantly grilled vegetables. A question of "How is everything?" by a Waitperson at Firebirds answered AS I did at The Hearth with "Well, I'm struggling a bit with some serious gristle" would have been met at Firebirds with the manager rushing to replace the offensive cut with something more reasonable; at The Hearth the waitress went off...oh, God know where...finally returning with the young man who seated me, heard my complaint (we even discussed sourcing - whether commercial or expectedly a bit tougher steriod-free beef) and HE went off...God knows where...my thoughts being he'd return with a manager...or the Chef. They never did; and, the young couple having departed, an elderly couple with a grandchild leaving as well...not even sure they ate...the area I was in was basically abandoned. The cheesecake I ordered as the young man left me arrived and I allowed the remains of the steak (complete with pile of cut-away and partially masticated waste - pic. added) to be taken. The young man subsequently arrived with the Check and imperiously announced he was sorry the steak was "not up to my expectations," but that after all it was NOT "the filet mignon." Well, Neil (former owner? partner?), there IS a reason your beautiful Restaurant's virtually empty...and nearly silent as a tomb, with wilted flowers on the tables. The wonderful, personable waitstaff you had is long gone; and there's little evidence reasonable customer satisfaction has ANY meaning, at all. I'll give it a star, just for the tasty, salted lemon cheesecake; but I would NEVER drive all that way just for dessert! What an awesome place! We did the wine/zipline tour through living social for about $65 and had an absolute blast! We had a very difficult time finding the place and ended up being about 15min late -our tour group had moved on so we ended up having to wait for almost 2 hours until the next tour. I was a bit frustrated since I have a new puppy and really felt bad leaving her for that extended period of time - I did feel they should have built in a bit of a time buffer for late stragglers (as they did for the 3pm tour) considering the difficulty in finding the location. The livingsocial person said "some people arrived an hour early" ok, well then specifically mention that we should arrive an hour early, and I would have. anyway... We decided to have some wine in the meantime. Service was not overly friendly and I was already a bit peeved but a phone call to a friend asking her to let out my pup and two glasses of the Chardonnay later, my mood significantly improved. The zipline tour itself deserves 10 stars! I have done this one other time in Puerto Rico and honestly this one surpassed that by a long shot! We were able to do some swinging and bouncing on the zipline which was beyond thrilling and our tour guides were friendly and professional. 14 platforms later and we were all ready for -you guessed it- more vino! We were able to try 5 selections - and honestly I am a bit spoiled by my previous proximity to Niagara wine region and so I personally would not come for the wine alone. If you like sweet whites or light reds this is your place...more of a full bodied fan? meh, not your place. Regardless, we did take a bottle home as a souvenir and all were decently priced at $15-20 The view was beautiful, it may be a great place for a wedding or event. We visited six wineries in this area, and this one was the most disappointing. After reading the reviews, we planned a lunch stop with tasting, only to find they only serve Thursday through Sunday. The tasting was okay, and we were impressed enough with one sample to buy a bottle. The most disappointing thing, strangely enough, is that out of the six wineries we visited, this was the only one that did not give you the wine glass with the tasting. Long after the bottle of wine is gone, we will remember the wineries from the glasses. This winery, though, will be forgotten. The zip line wasn't operating, and there were fewer tastes for the $5 fee than any other. I wish our experience measured up to everyone else here, but, sadly, this was the worst of the six. read more

My husband and I have had an amazing time here for his birthday. We stayed two nights in the cabin and it was just perfect for the two of us. We love bed and breakfast places but this was better we had our own private place but still had the convenance of walking over to the winery and having a delicious meal. We got to know the owners and the daughter Jennifer. It's nice to hear someone talk about their place with so much pride. They are an example of how a farm can reinvent itself and make it in this day and time. We are at the wine and food dinner on Friday night and everything was so good we came back for dinner tonight. I had the butternut squash and it was the best I've ever had tomorrow we are going to have brunch before we head out. I would recommend the cabin to any couple looking for a good getaway. As for the winery I would definitely stop the area is beautiful and was hand crafted by the owner. A very special place and I am very picky. read more

I visited Sanders Ridge and the new Roots restaurant yesterday evening with a friend for dinner, and had such a wonderful experience. The food was amazing - fresh, creative and flavorful; and the wines were perfect, some of the best we've had in NC. As a vegetarian with a lot of food allergies, I was so grateful to have unique options available to me aside from a default pasta or salad that I find at most restaurants. To top it off, the service was friendly, professional and personal, and our meals arrived quickly. This is a special place with a great vision, tucked away under the trees with a great view - a perfect 'getaway' for a casual meal or a special occasion. I am very hopeful that the new Roots endeavor at Sanders Ridge will be a lasting one in our area. We will be back - soon! read more

How can I begin to describe a location that is a cross between a vineyard, a winery, and a gorgeous mountain lodge? It would take awhile really, but suffice to say that if you haven't visited Sanders Ridge Winery in Boonville, NC, you better make it a future visit destination. We first discovered the Sanders Ridge Winery back in 2009 when thanks to other folks, who highly recommended the place, we decided to visit. And we've been hooked ever since. The main building is a huge post and beam "mountain-lodge" type of scenario that houses the wine tasting area and a gorgeous restaurant called the Big Woods Restaurant. In the basement are the various barrels housing the wine. When you first enter the winery, you are greeted by a massive stone fireplace, with the wine tasting area to the right of that and the restaurant to the left. You are immediately put at ease by the superb (warm) ambiance that this interior creates. You feel "at home" all at once and you wind up staying for a few hours. Neil and Cindy Shore, the owners, are remarkable folks. Witty, indefatigable, exceptional planners, and downright friendly folks, they make it a point to make each guest feel as though they were a long lost friend - heck, their warmth tends to disarm even the most cautious visitors. They are to be commended for all they've done with this place. But Sanders Ridge is more than a winery and fantastic restaurant. It also has a wildly successful zip line course, has organized nature and bird trail-walks, a cute pond with huge gazebo, and so much more. You could wind up spending a day here as many folks have. As for their wines, everything is subjective. I love their Chambourcin and Merlot (red wine), and their Viognier (white) - when in stock. Like many wineries, they "used" to also give you the wine glass that has their logo embossed free as part of the tasting, but increased costs have changed that rule and unless you pay a few bucks extra, you don't get the glass. Remember, the economy is the main reason here. I've noticed this with many other wineries now. I also have strong issues with one of the negative reviews that I happened to read on this page about Sanders Ridge. The Sanders Ridge folks are definitely friendly and have never been rude - and I've now visited on 4 different occasions. But let's face it, some folks who review like this can just be plain negative - they can't help themselves...such is life. I do feel sorry for these folks as they try to "hurt" where they can. If you're going to eat in the Big Woods Restaurant (by all means make it a point to do so), you must sample Chef Starr Johnson's cuisine. This awesome culinary chef produces some of the tastiest "new south" cooking that you'll come across and folks just keep coming back. Her wit, culinary talents (and instincts) have folks raving - and the ambiance in that dining area is second to none. And her Fried Green Tomato's and home made Pimento cheese are to die for! So what else could I possibly say about this wonderful location - it's that good and we've been there now on 4 different occasions. And keep in mind we've now visited 48 different winery locations....and Sanders Ridge is one of the few that we keep returning to. Make it a point to visit - you'll be glad you did. read more

Award-winning wines, beautiful winery, friendly staff, and delicious food - everything I could hope for in a visit to a vineyard. Sanders Ridge is a terrific destination, rewarding anyone who makes the trip to the Yadkin County countryside. I think I counted 14 different types of wine, with bottles on display behind the bar draped with dozens of medals recognizing the accomplishment of the team at Sanders Ridge. After a generous tasting session with family members descended from Sanders Shore himself (born in the 1850's, I believe), I selected a dozen bottles for a mixed case that I am delighted to enjoy with friends and family. The Big Woods restaurant deserves its own review as a first class dining establishment with the most casual and welcoming atmosphere - and a terrific menu. In addition to cherished favorites of the region, the chef has assembled a collection of unique and healthy offerings. I was doing well on the health-part until dessert - wOw. Sanders Ridge also hosts private events like weddings and other celebrations. On one visit, I marvelled at the matriarch presiding over a table of 20+ descendants who had surprised her with a birthday dinner at Big Woods restaurant. As I departed the stately winery (built with timbers harvested from the very same forest in which the winery is now situated above a lovely pond), I wished I didn't live so far away because Sanders Ridge is a place I could love to return to for the inspiration of the landscapes, the friendly hospitality of the hosts, the indulgence of another dinner, and the best of North Carolina wines. The setting is beautiful-nestled in the woods with a lake. The food is delicious with the fresh vegetables coming from their organic farm. A zip line is on thr property. I do not recommend this winery at all. When we walked in the door, the women told us to "go somewhere over there". She did not say hi or welcome or anything. She was very rude. Then when we were "allowed" to come over by the bar she told us she thought we already had too much to drink and that she couldn't do a tasting for us.
