Great experience with a tasting at Laurel Gray. We selected our wines then seated ourselves and went through the wines, with tasting notes, at our own pace, accompanied by some nibbles brought from home (they do have some for sale as well). We liked all the wines we tried but the Petit Verdot was the outstanding favorite. There's a great outdoor seating area and they had live music that day. read more

We were greeted by a friendly face and conversation. They had plenty of seating areas and even offered blankets... love that touch.. The wine flights are very expensive compared to most other places in the area so we just did one. ($28 for a flight of 4 and that did not include a glass to take home) they did have very different flavors that we enjoyed and an interesting chocolate flavored red. It was actually like drinking a chocolate drink. Wasn't syrupy sweet as you'd expect. We really wanted to buy a few bottles of some of the wines but they were out of our price range. (We wanted a cheaper bottle but even it was $36 and $14 for a glass of it) we always get a few when we do tastings but with it at that price point we had to pass. I think $23-25 would have been perfect for that bottle. They are missing the average wine drinkers. (We spend $45 on a special occasion bottle out of Cali. ) If you don't mind the prices it is an amazing little place. We will go again because we live in the area and enjoy wineries, but we won't do this one as often. There are great places on the wine trail in that area with good wines that are priced a lot better. read more

We've been to Laurel Gray a few times. It's a beautiful stop on our way to/from the mountains. The property is beautiful w/the tasting room being an old dairy milking barn I believe, so lots of character. There is inside and outside seating with a pond and vineyard on the back of the property. The service has always been excellent, as is the wine. Our favorite wines are the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot; they've got an excellent port as well as a chocolate sauce that's really yummy. If you're in the area, definitely stop by and given them a try. read more

Last weekend a group of girls and I took a wine tour into the Yadkin Valley and the second stop on our list was at Laurel Gray. Basically located in the rural area of Hamptonville, the grounds were quaint but stunning. Upon entry into their "tasting room" you will find a small little store with novelty items, a friendly staff, and of course, wine. The staff was gracious enough to let us try several wines before buying. I opted for the "song of the south" which included watermelon juice. It was different from any other wine I've tasted and I thoroughly enjoyed my bottle. Although there was a ton of seating, the staff didn't mind us sitting on blankets out by the vines. It was the perfect day for it! Our bus was 45 minutes late getting us after drop off and it was after closing, but the staff at Laurel Gray stayed with us until the bus got there and were very accommodating. I know I would be annoyed having to stay almost an hour over my shift but they did so willingly and for that, I am thankful. This is definitely a stop I would make again on a girls wine day! We came to Laurel Gray after going to two other wineries, and this was my least favorite of the three. They are doing wine flights at this time. Their wine flight is significantly higher in price - over double and you are not getting over double in portion either. While they are nice pours compared to others, my preference would be to handle like other wineries - have a smaller pour that way I can taste and try out different wines to find out what I like since they are no longer doing traditional tastings, then I could get a glass of what I enjoyed most. What we tried: Sangria - just okay, definitely had better. Blue ice - a blueberry wine that was good Nectar - a niagara grape wine - I've had better Branded - a fortified wine, a good one as well. Wines are definitely subjective in taste, and I just wasn't overly thrilled with what I tried - nothing that I wanted more than just what I had during the tasting. Overall, I don't think this was a bad winery - I just think there are other wineries that handle things a little bit better right now with better wines. PS - they are dog friendly outside only. So if you are with someone else, they can order and bring out the wine if you have your pet with you! read more

I was researching wineries for a visit with my husband and our best friends tomorrow, had a very hard time finding the cost for a wine tasting here. I finally found the price in a lukewarm review: $28. Grateful to the reviewer, as our budget does not allow this, and the other two wineries in the area, which are both charming, charge considerably less. We will be going to Shadow Springs (wonderful) or Windsor Run, where we have not visited for a long time but enjoyed when we did. read more

Friends of ours had a wedding shower there and it was lovely. It's a pretty vineyard with a beautiful patio area to sit and enjoy your wine and your company. The owner was very welcoming and let us taste several of their products. We brought their olive oil dipping sauce home with us and a loaf of their sourdough bread. Honestly, the bread is the only reason I deducted one star as it didn't taste or feel or even look like sour dough. It tasted like plain ole white bread. Otherwise, everything was beautiful and the white wine was so good, we bought a bottle of that too. read more

On a wine tour and stopped by to check out this vineyard. Small vineyard but felt so quaint! Sort of like you are at home enjoying your vineyard from your patio. They offer inside seating which makes you feel like you are gathered in your dinning space. Loved the outside seating space, they also have a few picnic tables and a swing overlooking their pond. One of the only vineyard I saw who was pet and kid friendly. Inside they have a small store where they not only sell wines but also, souvenirs, cheese & crackers and non-alcoholic drinks. It was a perfect day for a watermelon wine slushee! We sat in the swing, enjoyed our slushee. Great stop! read more

Super great service and welcoming vibe. Also loved the ambience and plentiful options for indoor and outdoor seating (even with their own complimentary blankets to stay warm in the cold). Unfortunately the wine wasn't the best tasting we had from the day so we didn't go home with any bottles but I only did a tasting of the rose, 3 reds which 1 was sweet their - blue ice which any sweet wine lover would love and it tasted just like blueberry pie! Was also surprised their tasting was close to $30 for 4 pours versus $12 for 4 pours at the last place! Private parking which is gravel - definitely typical for most wineries in the yadkin valley so ladies - don't wear cute heels or heeled boots! Enjoyed the scenery and the service overall and worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

The warmest customer service hands down. My visit Laurel Gray over the weekend was my first, proceeding the second to an Italian Vineyard down the road. The moment you walk in, everyone is smiling, and ready to provide the best experience possible. This doesn't take away from the fact that the wine is good too! The covered patio in the back is just lovely. The land it sits on with a private fairly large pond is so relaxing. Unlike my experience at the Italian vineyard, you can take your flight where ever you want. You are NOT limited to where their staff can make money from your visit. Now, I like to be waited on, but if there aren't enough staff or tables, I will gladly take a blanket to sit on the grass for a private picnic. In fact, the vineyard was closing and the owners told us to stay and enjoy! The only caveat was we didn't have access to the inside or the bathrooms , which for us, it was just fine. I just appreciated the accommodation and great customer service. Close enough from Charlotte that I will continue to visit. Thank you Laurel Grey Team! read more

A beautiful little french-styled winery with a great pond and nice views. The wines are good, but they tend to sell out of the better reds fairly quickly. Translation: if you're there and you think there's something you like, buy some to take. They're raising the prices on some to make up for it, meaning you can get good wine, but you might pay a little more than some of the other places with comparable quality. The tasting comes with complimentary bread and bbq/balsamic/carmel sauce to try with the wine. Not a bad stop, but not the best in the area, either. read more

This was our last stop of 3 wineries in the area. They were closing at 4p and we walked in 15 mins before! They took care of us and did not make us feel rushed. They have a few different tastings you can do white, red or fun category. Fun category is more sweet/dessert wines. I did the fun category and the hubby did the red. They have samples of food that pairs well with each tasting such as Caramel sauce with a chocolate wine. Everything completed the wines perfectly! It's smaller inside but the outdoors is beautiful with the center pond. Definitely want to come back to with more time to enjoy the winery. We did leave with a sangria that won both our taste buds. Laurel Gray features a beautiful patio seating area and great staff. The only reason I would not give it a full 5 star rating is the selection of wines. Although they do have some quality drier reds, they specialize much more in sweeter wines- which is not my forte. I also find their prices to be a bit high in comparison to their competitors (who have equally delicious and complex choices). I would absolutely say that Laurel Gray is worth a visit and makes for a quality wine gift. read more

I liked this winery! I enjoyed that they had more to sample than just wine. Nothing like breaking up all that tasting with some bbq sauce or salad dressing. The woman running the tasting wasn't the friendliest but her awesome was super friendly and welcoming. If you come here you have to try out the red wine chocolate sauce. That stuff was so tasty we had to buy a bottle of it to go. It makes a great gift. I also enjoyed their sweeter white wines. I would like to go when the weather is nicer and enjoy the property a bit more. read more

One of our favorite wineries in the Swan Creek area. One of the smaller feel wineries (which I love), the tasting building has a lot of personality and I can see they have expanded the outside space since our last visit several years ago. Each of the wines are great, the staff is personable and helpful. I'm a big fan of their Encore, chocolate red wine, not too sweet it's very smooth. The grounds are ripe for getting a nice glass of wine and chillin (see pics), highly recommended. read more

We had a good time visiting Laurel Gray. The tasting room is not far off of US421and really is in a beautiful setting. As far as the wines go, it was the typical NC wine offerings. Some French varietals, some French hybrid (especially Chambourcin which all of you should try because it really grows well in NC soil), and a couple of sweet wines often made with blackberries or peaches. The lady behind the counter was a picture of southern charm and certainly made the tasting experience wonderful. We even bought a few bottles just because she was so good. We came up with a bachelorette party and the female owner immediately chastised the bride for being 25 minutes late. We were in a limo and she could have spoken to any 9 of us. . He was late. What a horrible greeting to a winery none of us had been to. She's a miserable person who should never deal with the general public. I will make sure I take extra time in letting everyone I know they treat large parties like dung. They only had 13 people on property when we arrived. You needed the business, boo! read more

This was another one of my favorite vineyards we stopped by. Their Viognier white wine is extremely tasty and I bought a bottle to take home with me. As mentioned in the other review they offered a couple sauces to pair with their wines as we went along with the tasting which was pretty cool because it gave you a little bit of a idea of how the flavors would match up if you were going to have a bottle with dinner or possibly desert. Another thing I enjoyed about this vineyard is that it is bit of a smaller operation and that just makes it all that more comfortable of a place to visit. Lovely family vineyard. Their wines continue to improve over the 4 yrs we've visited. They are our fav in the Swan Creek area of NC. I took a bottle of Scarlet Mountain to a gathering of women and they LOVED it, plus it was a good match for the pizza buffet that evening. We've had over 40 bottles from them and not a drop goes to waste! They've added a line of sauces that pair well with their wines, from barbeque to caramel or cab-choc. I recently came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had a great time and were able to taste several different types of wine. The tasting itself was relatively cheap. The woman who served us was friendly, but a little aloof. Several members of our party took home bottles. One of them however, reported that her pairing suggestions were not great. This was one of our stops visiting wineries in the area. It is a smaller tasting/gift shop. The lady conducting our tasting was very friendly. Noticed the back patio area had been enchanted since last time here. More seating to relax and socialize while enjoying a glass (or 2 or 3) of wine. Enjoyed several of their wine offerings. This is a little quaint vineyard with a covered patio over looking the scenic vineyard landscape. It is off the first exit of 421 off I77. It is the perfect location to start a day of touring the different vineyards as it is right off the highway and so close to a few other vineyards. The tasting room has been expanded recently but it is still small with two separate small bar areas. At times there may be a small wait for tastings, but it does go by fast. This vineyard also sells balsamic vinegar and chocolate syrup, so they incorporate it in the wine tasting and pair it with their wines. The wines for the most part are pretty so so. They are not something I would personally buy but they are pretty decent. The staff is extremely friendly and can point you to wines of your choice. read more
