Cellar 4201 is one of our favorite niche wineries in the Yadkin Valley Appellation. Their wines are very good and the terrace is a great place to just chill and enjoy a glass of wine. Bougie Wino, here with a winery review. I decided to try something outside the norm such as your traditional vineyards. Cellar 4201 did not disappoint. It's clean, the staff is friendly and it's a great vibe. They only have one sweet wine, if you're not into dry wines, this is not the place for you. They do offer snacks, wine flights , wine by the glass and of course you can buy the bottle. They do not do traditional tasting. They are kid friendly but no pets. Happy Sipping! read more

The wine tasting was an okay price- $11 for several wines and the glass. However, in my opinion, a few of the wines tasted similar to each other, and non really stuck out. It was a beautiful place, and they had good service, but I wasn't impressed with the wine. read more

Cellar 4201 is a small quaint winery, very much a favorite of ours! The owner/vintner is on site and very friendly! He interacts with the customers and makes you feel very welcome. We visited this winery on Saturday, July 3rd. East Bend sounds like an off-the-beaten-track destination but it's only a quick 40 minute drive from Greensboro. It's a nice drive as well and if you go through Bethania you get a glimpse of a quaint little town from a time long gone. You do have to pay a little bit of attention as you get close to the winery as the sign announcing the entrance is small and low to the ground. As we drove up, we were very impressed with the obvious attention spent on keeping the grounds and patio neat, clean and colorful. All manners of well maintained plants and flowers are in pots on the patio. At least a half dozen umbrella-covered tables are available to sit at and relax. The tasting room is cozy and nicely decorated. Cheese, pita chips and chocolates are available on the tasting bar to nibble on between wine pours. Our tasting cost $5 each and consisted of 8 different pours including a stainless steel and oak chard, standard and reserve vintages of a merlot and a cab sav, a sangiovese and a off sweet rose made from the sangiovese grapes. All the wines were solid but we felt the stainless chard and both merlots were the best of the group. My girlfriend, who is not a oak chard fan at all even enjoyed their oaked offering. To my palate the cab sav was a bit light on the mouthfeel. Props to Cellar 4201 for producing a solid sangiovese in NC! The prices are quite reasonable with the reserves topping out at just $15. The owners, Greg and Donna Hutchinson, and their staff were very, very friendly and you could tell its is important to them that their guests have a pleasant visit - including chatting with us on the patio as we enjoyed a glass of wine. The winery works in conjunction with several of the other nearby wineries and sponsors tasting events and mini-festivals with them. They also have their own Cellar 4201 logo'd cornhole set just off the patio. The wine was very good but the service was very poor. We we were treated very rudely by one server in particular because it was apparently "15 minutes until closing" and it was unacceptable to get one more glass of wine. We were then berated by our server. There are many other wonderful wineries in the area, which we will visit instead of Cellar 4201. We were going to buy a few bottles, however, we decided against it due to the service we received. I recommend trying anywhere else. read more

Just discovered a hidden gem in East Bend! We are excited about the growing wine industry in the area and have been to several vineyards and wineries close by. Some are growing so fast that they are often very crowded and a lot of the wine is a little sweet for our taste. We love the drier reds! Well, we discovered Cellar 4201 and we will definitely be back. The reds that we tasted were all good, especially the Cherokee Red and the Warrior. Did not try the Sangiovese...yet! The place was very pretty, clean, quiet and not crowded. We will be back!! read more

This winery has an endearing quality. Even though it was a rainy Saturday, there were groups of people occupying the tables outside, enjoying bottles of wine and having fun. The "host" was very personable and shared the history of the winery along with his own thoughts on each varietal. We received 8 tastings for $8, which is a little pricey compared to others in the area, but we were able to try additional tastings of the wines as we were trying to decide what to purchase. If you like dry wines, this place must be on your list! We enjoyed the barrel fermented Chardonnay and the Cherokee Red. Even their "sweet" red, Sweet Native, wasn't very sweet. It was really delightful with a hint of cherry. I would definitely return here; making sure I have time to sit on the patio and enjoy the view and the wine. read more

Some good and some not so good about Cellar 4201. They have a decent selection of dry reds, which are my preference. I was pretty well taken with their Warrior blend. I found the tastings overpriced -- $9 for seven wines (with a very small quantity of each wine -- about half an ounce) in a stemless glass, or $15 for the same seven in a stemmed glass, which you get to keep. Now, I certainly prefer a glass with a stem, but good lord, you wouldn't even get a half glass of wine for your $15, and the last thing I need is another glass to bring home. For comparable wine tastings, most Yadkin Valley wineries charge you from $5 to $10 for up to ten wines, and more often than not, you get to keep the glass anyway (though I usually return them because I'd rather save the winery the needless overhead). I confess this little bit of gouging irked me, but it wasn't hard to make the best of things, what with the beautiful setting, good company, and wine that -is- pleasing. Their prices for bottles are about on par with their neighboring vineyards. However, the bottom line is, with so many wineries in the area that offer you a better deal on tastings (and some with wine of equal or higher caliber), I am not that inclined to make 4201 a destination to revisit in the near future. read more
