    Bootlegger wine

Tucked away in the inconspicuous mountains was a hopeful spot I found on google. This place gets a gold star for their great ambiance! It was full of folks looking for great wine and a great time and that was possible because of the entertaining live music playing while we were there. Combine that with some breathtaking views, delicious apps to pair with your wine and boom you have a lovely day out or even a lovely date spot to enjoy a drink with your special someone. Now if you are a "Napa wine connoisseur" this place was more interesting in its selections but still has solid darker reds with jammy, cocoa-ey notes that will please perhaps even the more refined palates. And lastly, service was lovely, with quick attention and friendly smiles all around, we had a large order with plenty of last minute additions and they were always accommodating and pleasant to the last minute. Will definitely be coming back here soon!

Live music, plenty of parking and seating. Quick service, but not at your table, you have to go to the bar where slushies, glasses, bottles and flights of wine are available. You can also purchase snacks such as yummy Ashe County Cheeses. A food truck was also available the weekend afternoon we were there. Really beautiful landscape and peaceful rural setting. Highly recommend! You can take a trolley from town.

Ambiance is awesome. We came here on a Sunday afternoon. There was no live music or food truck but it's such a beautiful place to spend an afternoon in. Also the people working here are super nice and welcoming

The best place you can visit while in west Jefferson. 1. Reservation: not required. Lots of tables inside and out. But on July 4th like days, you may want a reservation 2. Wine: 3.5 stars. They are not bad, just not the best in the world and it's okay. Their flower forward smelling wines are very pleasant and I liked their Riesling. 3. Peach mead: now this needs to be mentioned separately and it's amazing!!!!! Must try! 4. Food truck: it's good they have food options and some very fancy things like lobster roll, shrimp, steak etc 5. LIVE MUSIC!!! 6. Christmas tree farm next to it, this place is amazing!

This is a beautiful winery with an incredible view. They have a parking lot outside, which is the only parking for a long distance. They had amazing live music, which was a very big plus. They also have a food truck with delicious options.

I read another review that said this place was a Hallmark movie, waiting to happen, and that is exactly correct. I can't really improve on that. The wines are really good, the service was very friendly, and it's on a Christmas tree farm, therefore, the ambience is awesome. Had we not had to come home that day, we could've stayed there all day. I highly recommend this place. Next year, we will probably drive up there to have some wine and pick out a Christmas tree.

We always love an afternoon at Old Barn Winery. It's super dog friendly, laid back, and beautiful. They typically have live music which is a plus. When we visited, the food truck was not open (a Sunday afternoon).

If you've ever driven up to West Jefferson to buy Christmas trees you'll recognize this bar and immediately because it used to be the old barn that Frosty's sold their wreaths and where you paid for your Christmas tree. Now the Christmas tree farm is still there but for the rest of the year they have amazingly refurbished this barn and now have a fantastic winery and venue that you can come to. We've been here a few times and usually in the summer they have food trucks but you are more than welcome to bring your own food and soft drinks and enjoy their wines. We've had their Cabernet and their current version of a Chardonnay and they are both really good. We also were lucky enough to be able to enjoy some music while we were there in the upstairs area. If you're ever in the West Jefferson area be sure to come over here grab a bottle of wine and sit down and listen to some music and just take a load off for a spell.

The Old Barn Winery is a gem.. Recently opened, we decided to check it out on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The grounds are breathtaking. From the moment you enter you feel the friendly atmosphere. Everyone we met had a genuine smile on their face, ready to answer any questions about their wines. Our server Hannah was very professional and on point with her suggestions based on our personal preferences. I tried the dry rose which was delicious, I'm a Pinot Grigio gal , but decided to try this rose first and did not disappoint. My husband went for the Railroad Red - a delicious blend of Syrah and Merlot- this was also star quality. By the way the Pinot Grigio was excellent as well. Highly recommend this winery! I know that when we're in the area again it will be our definite must stop.

After a little over a year in business, they are running a first-class experience here. I don't think the wines are necessarily going to run Napa out of business, but they are certainly drinkable and there's an interesting variety. What's really special here is the setting and the variety of seating options from which to experience it. The interior bar (where excellent servers keep the lines moving with grace and energy) has a nice wine cellar vibe on two levels. Outside, there are tables under a large patio pergola and bistro tables in the open air. Scattered about the expansive lawn are groupings of Adirondack chairs. This is all set in a little valley with hillsides surrounding it and Appalachian peaks visible beyond. I haven't seen it yet in the height of the fall season, but I definitely plan to! It's a lovely, relaxing place to while away an afternoon and the live music is a good addition. You can either sit up close for a concert experience, or at some distance and treat it as background.

View from the parking lot. Spectacular!

What a wonderful spot! The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The wines were spot on, must have been we left with a bunch of bottles. The views are awesome, we were lucky and caught it on a good day. If you find yourself in West Jefferson NC you should set aside a couple of hours to visit the Old Barn Winery. They are a little proud of their wines and they should be!!

The bride and I took our two Irish Red and White Setters. We called the day before to inquire about dogs on leashes. It's a 90-minute drive to this place well up into the mountains. What a treat part of the route was to use the Blue Ridge Parkway! We arrived at 12:50 pm Saturday 07/23/2022. We got a parking spot right out front. Unloaded the dogs and found a table for four on the well-manicured lawn with an umbrella. The winery property rests in a valley with wonderful views of Christmas Tree Farmland and mountainous terrain. This winery is relatively new, and the tasting building reflects this. It's open, spacious, and highly appointed with post and beam construction elements. We purchased two flights, one white and one red. The first flight was white. There is no wait-staff service (at least on this visit anyway) The white wine flight featured a Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, a Viognier, and a Reisling. The pinot Grigio upfront was lightly floral. The taste upfront was crisp, with citrus and grass with a bit of mineral. The finish was very acidic and crisp. 2.5 of 5 for the style. The Sauvignon Blanc was a big improvement in terms of style and was very well balanced. A pleasing nose and a detectable difference from the front end to the back end. Pleasant and easy drinker. 3.5 of 5. The Viognier was very, very good. Not many here on the east coast would be familiar with this wine. Some folks out west call it the "red wine drinkers white wine. " It was a 4 of 5. Well balanced, one can taste the musty, earthy qualities of it right up front and finishes with a tinger of dried fruits and minerals. We liked it so much that we purchased some to take home. The last of the whites was a Riesling. If you are a fan of Chateau St. Michelle, this is for you. It's a sweet one with a nice balance between sweetness and acidity. 3.5 of 5 on the Riesling. The reds weren't as good as the whites, I'm afraid. We started with a Cab Franc. Very nice nose. Velvety mouth feel up front with notes of dried plumb and currant. The back end was a melange of peppercorns and maybe a subtle curry note. No, there is no curry in it. Of the reds in my opinion, this was the est by far. 4 of 5. It's worth it if you're a Cab Franc fan. Then two, I assume blends were offered. Rays Red and Railroad Red as they were branded. Nothing especially going on here other than the Railroad Red is dryer than the Rays Red, and both would be good choices as red table wines. 2.75 of 5. The Syrah was a touch disappointing. If this were a beer, I'd suspect it of being infected with a very small amount of diacetyl. The mouthfeel made for a fuzzy tongue. There was also a bit of a "plastic" taste from the bride's perspective. Generally, Syrah is a "thinner" grape and makes for a thinner presence overall. This held true here. The owner of the place, Mr. Sexton, visited the table twice. He explained they grow nothing here and "import" juice from all over. He also explained he is an amateur and knows next to nothing about the technical side of the wine-making process. To this end, he hired a young and upcoming UC Davis graduate. He convinced the young man to move from CA to NC. The view into the fermentation room revealed new stainless steel fermenters. Very clean room, too, as sanitation is so important in winemaking. We enjoyed the Old Barn and plan to make many trips back over time. The Viognier is clearly the standout and the Cab Franc a close second. There is something here for everyone, including soft drinks, a Chase County Cheese refrigerator case, and a food truck, and three piece band playing. It made for a relaxing, inviting, and enjoyable Saturday afternoon outing. The dogs liked being there too!

    Gorgeous views and delicious wine!

We arrived about 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The parking area had a dozen or so cars. We proceeded to the covered barn and were immediately greeted by the family. The young man was friendly and efficient, we also learned that veterans receive free admission which was a welcome surprise, very nice touch! We also learned they have swag including shirts, baseball hats, stickers and decals. They were selling Colts signature honey and Carolina Gold oils made from sunflowers. They were down to their last bottle of garlic oil so they set it aside for us. We grabbed a bucket which was already equipped with cutters for us to cut our own sunflowers. The back field was where we were headed and the casual stroll back was enjoyable. There are beautiful flowering bushes and flower fields along the way and I was able to capture several cool pics with butterflies as well. The sunflower field was beautiful and we immediately began taking pictures. We commented that we should have brought the drone to capture the farm. We ended up cutting eight sunflowers to take home and arrange. Once up at the covered barn area they wrapped the sunflowers up and we selected our various swag items. Very cool local family business. We asked and they told us this is their sixth year. Support local and enjoy the beauty of Dogwood Farms.

When we went to get our poppies, we were given 1 bucket and 1 pair of scissors (why wouldn't we get two since we paid for two?). Then, when we wen to pay for our poppies, they simply wrapped them in a paper and rubberband. I asked, "Could you put a wet papertowel on those?" The lady was curt and said, "They'll be fine til you get home." Well, they weren't fine. They were wilted and looked sick. I enjoy supporting my local community, however, these people couldn't care any less about you or your poppies.
