What a cute and relaxing spot to grab wine and chat with friends. After arriving to the area, we popped in here before heading to our cabin. It was a snowy day, but the winery was beautiful. They have a lot of outdoor seating which it was too cold for but they have some covered and heated outdoor areas as well, which is where we sat. I ordered a mulled wine which was delicious and my friends split the bottle of syrah. I wasn't sure what to expect from wine in NC but I really enjoyed it. They also offer some quick snacks like charcuterie boxes, chips, etc. and have two food trucks on property. We had a lovely afternoon at the winery!! They have a huge parking lot and there was plenty of seating! It was all outdoor though, so dress accordingly. We went on a Friday afternoon and there were a lot of people there but we easily got a table. They had live music. They had plenty of wine options including frose and a couple seasonal options like sangria and mulled cider. We got the flights which was a great way to try multiple wines. The flight options were dry white, sweet white, dry red, sweet red, mimosa etc. but the cashier got very sassy when I asked if you can mix and match. You can't lol. Loved the presentation of the flights. They sell snacks inside like pretzels, crackers, olives, pickles, different cheeses and dips, charcuterie etc. but it was very pricy. Fun vineyard we stopped by, right next to our Air Bnb (one of the most well-known in the area, with very high reviews). Very kid-friendly (LOTS of kids running around) and dog-friendly. Had live music for the first half hour we were there; was sad to see it was done so early in the afternoon! There is both uncovered and covered seating by the stage and vineyards, or you can sit by the stream. There were gorgeous views everywhere you looked and you could walk amongst some grape vines. They had some food trucks there, but I am not sure if this is the norm and we are not from there. This was our second time visiting Grandfather Vineyard. When you first drive up, you park in a gravel parking lot and cannot see what to expect. There is a cute little bridge over a rocky stream that leads to the vineyard area itself. It's adorable. There was a food truck and a few tents with locally made items and clothing. There is seating near the stream, near the bandstand and near the main building. We ordered wine flights, one dry red and one bubbly flight. They were presented in a cute tiered rack. We ordered ham and cheese sandwiches, Brussel sprouts and a hot dog. The brussel sprouts were delicious. The sandwiches were filling. We also tried the frose's, which were tasty. We left with a nice bottle of red wine. The atmosphere is so relaxing. You can see the grapevines beyond the seating area. The band was playing great music. A lot of people brought their dogs. The wife and I attended a wine tasting while spending a weekend in the blue ridge mountains. Wine maker and marketing lady greeting us with a glass at arrival and then guided us thru the wine making facility. Not a huge facility but interesting and we had the opportunity to chat/ask questions as we strolled. We had a table amongst the wine barrels and were able to sample 6 different wines and had a small charcuterie box which was just perfect. Local chocolates rounded out the tasting. The wines were tasty and we purchased 3 bottles to enjoy at home. Really fun experience at a family owned/run winery. The grounds and shop are beautiful and it's a great place to just pop in for a glass to relax outside and just chill. We've been here 3/4 times now and have had a great experience every time. Tucked away this little piece of heaven is a must if your up anywhere close enough to go! Between the water and the trees this winery is such a blissful place, wide open space outside, lots of different levels of seating. Such a great cozy feel. Live music, food trucks, snacks, and wine of course! I have to say their flights are their signature. They serve them on those cute stands with little wine glasses. The service was great inside, plenty of staff, actually would work here myself! We ended up with a couple of bottles of red and I had a glass of their Blue Ridge Brut. Both excellent bottles and I loved the dryness of the Brut. Beautiful wine glasses! Kid friendly and lots of dogs! It got super busy as the day was beautiful, so get there early to grab a great spot. We were up staying in Boone and wanted a fun day trip/adventure. From the drive up and having the golf cart shuttle that was fabulous. The scenery was beautiful! Mountain views, river view and was just absolutely beautiful. Started off with the sparking flight and a delicious charcuterie pre made board. Then I tried the white flight and my boyfriend tried the sweet wine flight. Loved the frosé! They have this place in such order from when you walk into the tasting room. The service was great, but it's pretty much a seat yourself kind of place. The food was our least favorite part. The charcuterie board didn't taste fresh, everything came pre packed (like a store brought bag of crackers and honey). Still okay, but not the best or what we were expecting. Not our favorite winery. We went to drink wine & sit by the river. Too much commotion-kids playing in the river, throwing rocks, etc. Lots of dogs. The main road next to the winery is super busy-lots of road noise. Just wasn't the relaxing afternoon we had hoped for. Absolutely hands down my favorite winery! And yes I've been to many. If you are an outdoorsy girl like me, and it soothes your soul to be next to the water and trees, this is the place for you!! Let me start my saying, I love the mountains, but live in the piedmont. We venture up this way several times a year and this is a must stop for ultimate relaxation if you are craving a glass of wine and the sounds of the stream. I haven't had a glass I didn't like, but my current favs are White: Tanawha Vermentino, crisp and light for a warm day, not sweet! Red: Syrah & Chambourcin perfect reds They also have many flights if you want to try them! And I'm sure there are some sweeter wines if that's your thing. Truly the best ambiance I've ever experience at a winery. There are many seating options: by the stream, under shelter, or near the music! My only request is please place a speaker closer to the water so you can hear the live music a little better from stream side! I love live music, but you will never not catch me sitting by the water. We recently came back to Grandfather Vineyard to have some wine flights. This time we did not get to pick our wines, instead they now offer some preselected flights. We went with the sparkling flight and sweet flight. Sparkling: ASU Sparkling Traminette - good flavor, like a champagne to me. Blue Bridge Brut - Similar to the first one, but strong in lemon flavor. Definitely get the lemon zest that is part of the flavor profile. Dry Sparkline Rose - Not a huge fan of this one, definitely taste the dryness. Sparkling Norton - This was very dry. None in my group liked this one. Sweet: Sparkling River White - very good sweet sparkling wine. French Colombard - good, got mostly apple from the flavor profile. Niagara - Only okay to me, but my husband liked it more than me. Sweet Creek Red - No good, and not sweet. I said this last time, I felt like they poured us the wrong thing as this is no where near a sweet wine, nor does it have a good flavor. The good about Grandfather Vineyard: Great environment next to the creek and dog friendly. The bad: They really don't have great wines to me, or no longer have some of the ones that I enjoyed last time. I would still recommend if in the area, it just doesn't come close to my favorite NC wineries. read more

Th day we came it rained but we had patio umbrellas and live music. $15 for four wine tastes. You have to park and walk so they do have a shuttle that randomly drops people off. read more

This winery has been on my wish list, could finally make it here after a nice hike on grandfather mountain. It has the most beautiful location, with a creek running right by the winery. While we sip some fantastic wine, kids can play in the water. They are very family and dog friendly. You can also bring your own food. On the weekdays they offer a variety of cheese selection and sandwiches for purchase. They have so many seating areas. Live music and food truck on the weekends. I tried both their sparkling wines (brut and sparkling rose) and they were fantastic. If you know what you like, I would suggest trying by the glass ($7-$9) , than flight ($15 for 4, 2 oz pours) coz you get more wine for less price. White blend is Chardonnay semillon which is great too. Staff is very friendly. They have water stations at multiple places which I really appreciated. read more

We had been invited to Grandfather Vineyard to attend a political event. It's the sort of place that works perfectly for large gatherings but we also saw people just enjoying some good spirits. First trip was a few years ago and was great- however- This year we were there for an anniversary get away and expected a nice evening with a glass of wine by the creek. WRONG!!! It was like someone dropped a daycare bus of children off to play in the creek!!!! There were kids everywhere ,running around our table, and throwing rocks. It's an adult vineyard- not a playground!!! I came to get away from kids-not babysit yours..... Maybe it should be 18 and up or have an area for adults only... There was also an older couple beside us who were also complaining about the kids... We visited GFV on my birthday, it was a Sunday and it was wonderful. From the group of young men helping people park (wearing masks), to walking up to the tasting room. They weren't allowing people in but the line went quickly and our order was filled quickly (we got two flights - one sweet one dry as well as a bottle of Appalachian Bubbles) we spent around $65 total..
