Apple Hill Farm is a cute farm that holds farm tours. They have pigs, horses, donkeys, angora goats, great Pyrenees (dogs), llamas, and alpacas! The alpacas were the main reason I drove over an hour to the farm! The animals, especially the angora goats and alpacas, were so cute and well taken care of. You can't go into the enclosures, but the animals get close enough to the fences for you to pet them. The tour guide was very informative and seemed very passionate with her job. The tours are about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. They have the tours Mondays - Saturdays: 11 am, 12:30 pm, 2 pm and Sundays: 12:30 pm & 2 pm. They sell fresh eggs and items made from alpaca fiber. The alpacas are so soft! It's $12/adults 11 and up, $7/children 4 to 10, and free for toddlers. No reservations needed. Just show up before the scheduled tours.

Really enjoyed coming here with our family! Loved seeing all of the animals and our tour guide, Eva, was super friendly and knowledgeable. It was obvious that she loves her job and puts pride into what she does and what the farm stands for. We loved learning about the jobs of the different animals and hearing how they came to the farm.

We really enjoyed Apple Hill Farm. Our tour guide Tyler was very knowledgeable and kind. We loved seeing all the animals. The property has beautiful views. All the staff was very nice. I didn't want to leave.

Alpacas, goats, llamas, donkeys and dogs. It's not a petting zoo. The animals decide if they want to be touched -- and for us that means we mostly cuddled the golden retriever on the property. But we had a good time walking around on the tour and learning more about fiber goats and alpacas.

We had fun on a private tour of the Alpaca farm. Besides alpacas, the animals also included 2 llamas, some donkeys, pigs, cows, goats, chickens, dogs. The views were spectacular. Of course no trip to an alpaca farm would be complete without buying some amazing yarn. I got 2 kits- one for a beaded shawl, and fingerless gloves. Already working on the shawl.

If you're looking for a new adventure, I so recommend Apple Hill Farm. During the Christmas season tours run every 30 minutes. I am on a mountain retreat with a group and 5 of us decided to leave the cabin to see the Alpacas. So glad we did! The staff are very friendly and will answer any questions. You go on about a 30-45 minute walking tour to see a variety of different animals (some you are allowed to pet.) At the end of the tour you are led to a gift shop with all things alpaca and they give you complimentary hot apple cider or hot chocolate. The owner, Lee was inside the store and she was so kind. I would love to go back sometime. TIP: It is a rough road - may attention to weather before making the trek. It can be muddy and they often get snow in the winter. It is NOT paved all the way to the farm.

We had an amazing time at Apple Hill Farm! We attended the Saturday morning tour. Emma was our awesome tour guide. She was kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable. The tour takes you through the farm where you learn so much along the way and you can pet/feed some of the animals! Plus the view of the mountains is breathtaking. During the tour, we saw the guard donkeys, pigs, alpacas, llama, chickens, goats, cows, horses, and dogs. The tour then ends back at the barn where you can see their store. In the store, you can learn more about alpaca/llama fibre and purchase various products. We made sure to purchase a few alpaca products to take home. I believe you can also view and purchase some of their products on their website. Overall, we had a great time and learned a lot about the life and care of these animals. I definitely recommend going here to support local farms and to learn more about it!

Feeding the goats and cows

This is a cute farm tour. My kids 7 & 8 loved getting to feed and pet/touch the goats and cows. We got there a bit early and the guide was all about getting us going right away. The guide (Katie) was very sweet and patient with my two talkative kiddos!! Thanks so much for this fun tour! Oh...and side note for the covid era we are in. Masks were required and worn by everyone during the tour. Thank YOU!!

Great destination experience if looking for something to do around Banner Elk. Not a petting zoo per se but a working farm.

We went to sugar mountain for the week but the low was about 60. We found other great things to do and thus was one of them!

While there, we also did flower pounding to make a beautiful card and envelope (see photos). There was a covered area with tables where we were able to sit, eat snacks, and chat. I also noticed a fire-pit and I'd like to bring my grandkids, let them pick flowers, and then spend time relaxing with a picnic lunch or dinner and roast some marshmallows over the fire. The way it works is you scan the QR code, pick up a cup, fill with water, and grab cutters. You can walk up and down the aisles that have various flowers blooming and pick any you like. If you don't have time to pick, there is a grab and go bouquet in the stand. They are open dawn to dusk April - October. I attended a Christmas in July party this past weekend and we were asked to bring a gift from a local vendor. I brought a gift certificate. The person who opened it didn't want to tell anyone what it was for fear it would be stolen! She wanted it for herself. So, if you enjoy flowers (and your special someone does), check out Harvey Family Farm.

The first attempt at using the shower was shocking. It was too small for even my 8 year old! We tried to keep busy and spent very little time in the cabin, we basically just slept here. We left on Tuesday 11/22 and today we received an email stating they were charging us $257 in damages. I'm including costs. - $49 charge for dirty towels (they said they are stained) however, they are pictured on the cabin floor and weren't washed. - $49 to replace a broken curtain rod (nothing was broken, it looks like a ring slid off the end). - $159 for a snagged rug runner - that was Walmart quality, not wort $159. - $35 charge for trash removal - there were no instructions on what to do with trash so I took the two trash bags and put them on the front porch for easy removal. They said we broke a fishing pole but it was a cheap fishing pole that I purchased, used, and then discarded of because we didn't want to bring it home. This does not seem fair at all! We are in shock that a business would operate like this! This is not $257 worth of damage, this is robbery!
