We visited Haze Gray on Sunday afternoon and spoke with the owner, who provided us with valuable insights and detailed tasting notes about their wines, as well as information on the winemaking process and the winery's history. All the red wines leaned towards the dry side, which I enjoy. They are crafted in a traditional French style, with aging taking place in French oak barrels. Overall, I appreciated the wines we tasted, and we decided to take home a bottle of Petite Verdot. I feel it's worth a visit if you prefer dry wines over the typical sweet varieties found in North Carolina. read more

Haze Gray is another new NC winery for us recently. It is a lovely quiet winery, at least when we visited, and dog friendly (people friendly, too!)! We got a wine flight with some slushies. Here is what we tried: *Semi-Sweet Traminette - just okay. *Strawberry Blossom - this one was better as you sipped and let it sit for a moment. It was definitely like eating a strawberry. *Peach Blossom - Strong peach flavor - amazing! *Cherry Blossom - Also good! *Black Berry Blossom - Slight tart finish, but overall good. We left with a bottle of the peach wine and compared it with some of our favorite NC peach wines when we got home. It is definitely one of our new favorite peach wines! Absolutely recommend stopping by Haze Gray to enjoy some wine! read more

Haze Gray is awesome. The owners are kind and knowledgeable. They moved here about ten years ago and started this vineyard and built the tasting room. It's beautiful, clean, spacious and their wine is lovely, just much better than other wineries in the Yadkin Valley. They might not be splashy and it's off the beaten path -- but definitely stop by here and grab a glass of Chardonnay or Chambourcin (which I learned one should not let age). read more

This winery and Becca are amazing. I visit quite a few vineyards in the USA and this one impressed me with their Estate bottled wines -- grapes grown in THEIR vineyard as well as their ability to blend. I sampled quite a lot, liked them ALL, indulged in the Petit Verdot 2020 and the Traminette 2023. I also highly recommend the 2023 dry Rosé. This Veteran - run business has some great tributes to veterans and a multi-generational history displayed on the wall. They also feature several delicious products by local businesses -- Granola, Pimento Cheese, Peanuts and MORE. Fantastic stop in Dobson of the Yadkin Valley Wine Country. read more

We've discovered Haze Gray when attending the annual Elkin Wine Festival. They have my favorite Traminette and my husband really enjoyed their Cabernet Franc. The family who owns the winery are sweet and personable. They're also supportive of veterans and have a whole wall dedicated to their customers who are veterans or have family members who are veterans. read more

My wife and I started out a Saturday day trip to go to The Rockford general store near Dobson because we had read about it in Our State magazine. We figured we drive there have some lunch and see a few other things around the area but when we got there unfortunately your kitchen was closed but the owner sent us up to the winery because they had a food truck. Very acquaint little winery with amazing owners. The owner used to fly f-14s in the Navy and he and his wife are very personable and actually have some very good wines. We got a bottle of the Chardonnay and shared it while listening to music and eating food from the food truck. There's a lot of old history to see in this area so making a trip up to the winery and then heading into Rockford would certainly be a good day for anybody. There's also an old church there in Rockford which has a fresco which was painted by the brother-in-law of Ben Long who did the famous fresco's in Glendale springs and West Jefferson. If you are a vet or currently serving in the military they give discounts and they also encourage you to hang up your own picture of 5x7 or less on their wall of honor they are obviously super supportive of our military. read more

I was invited by a friend to join a group of ladies here for a get together. This was my first time at this vineyard which turned out to be very close to my house. I've been to tastings at many other local vineyards and to be honest, I didn't really didn't find any wines I would purchase. No so at Haze Gray. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up purchasing 3 bottles of 3 different wines. The facility is really nice and we were able to enjoy our drinks on the porch. The facility is meticulously clean and the owner, extremely pleasant. I'm looking forward to visiting here again. I highly recommend this winery. read more

I've visited Haze Gray several times since they opened, and I've never been disappointed. I'm typically a fan of hearty, jammy reds, and their reds, while still a little young, make for a satisfying experience. On this occasion, friends and I tried the Aviator Red, a kitchen sink style blend of Bordeaux varietals alongside Tannat, and the Petit Verdot. My normal go-to, Boot Camp Red, was sold out, but the Aviator more than impressed. The winter months feature special mulled wine, but in non-winter months, there are almost always slushees on offer. The Chambourcin and Merlot were both solid choices on previous trips. The owners are both delightfully friendly and chatty, and as a military family, they've cultivated nice wall of honor and some nice memorabilia. The tasting room is spacious and nicely appointed. This addition to the Yadkin Valley is certainly worth a trip! read more

Loved this vineyard! The new tasting room has many sentimental and symbolic ties to the owners military heritage, and they encourage their patrons to bring their pictures to hang on their walls as well! We enjoyed a tasting of their red and white wines. Our favorites were the Boot Camp Red, the Chambourcin, and the Pinot grigio read more

My sister and I make it a habit several times each year to visit many of the every growing wineries open across NC and each year we hit a bunch but never get to them all!! Recently we had the opportunity to visit a new one on our list called Haze Gray. While the tasting room just opened over the holiday's the owners have been growing their own grapes on over nine acres of their 85 acre farm for several years now. The vineyard, winery and tasting room are located adjacent to one another in Dobson, NC - for us an easy hour and twenty minute drive from Charlotte up I-77. There are also a number of other wineries in the area making up the Surry County Wine Trail (noteworthy is Stony Knoll another great winery is only 1/4 mile from Haze Gray). If coming from a distance like we did this is a real plus. They also have a cottage/log cabin you can rent on airbnb located right in the vineyard! Located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the owners picked a beautiful location for this winery! Now onto the wine! Just opening, Haze Gray has five wines, three reds (Merlot, Chambourcin and a blend) as well as two whites (Chardonnay and Traminette). A tasting includes all five and I can say I liked all of them! Noteworthy, Haze Gray doesn't currently offer what I would call sweet NC wines (Muscadine and/or other fruit based). But if you have a sweet tooth they do offer wine slushies on the weekends and we got to try a sample - very good! They also have some cracker, cheese, etc type food offerings for sale if your hungry! I was impressed that they are strictly using their own grapes too versus buying - that means a lot to me given the many wineries buying grapes. My favorites were the Chambourcin and the Traminette. My sister's favorite was the blend and the Traminette. We both bought bottles of each. The tasting room was beautiful and spacious BTW! The owners Deane and Becky are very personable and friendly - they moved to NC several years ago specifically with the dream to open a winery! Becky provided so much background and family history during our tasting and Deane gave us a great tour of the winery. Both are from military families with Deane being a Navy veteran. This military theme can be seen and felt across their choices of colors and interior design. In fact Haze Gray gets it's name from the specific color US naval ships are painted (even the green accent color used on the interior of the winery is the color used on the interior of these ships (see pics). Interestingly Haze Gray is also a certified "Home Grown by Heroes" vineyard indicating products produced by US military veterans - very cool. We plan to come back in the spring when the weather is warmer, everything is blooming and and they have their outside deck furniture setup. I highly recommend you check out Haze Gray on your next visit to Dobson and Surry County!! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Haze Gray Vineyards. It was a pleasure getting to know Becky and Deane. The setting is beautiful! The tasting room is pretty, clean and a comfortable place to explore their wines. We loved the wines. There is something for everyone. Our favorite is the Petit Verdot. In general the east coast doesn't produce red wine with the full bodied characteristics we like. Their Petit Verdot was a wonderful surprise. We loved it! In total we left with a couple cases of wine, a mix of many of their wines. We look forward to sharing these delicious wines with our friends! read more

This is a great winery! They love our Military and the service was outstanding. Becky was so friendly and helpful she treated us like family of course Military is family and will always be! read more

This place is great and run by vets. They made us feel very at home and it was a super nice tasting. Loved our young host

We loved the setting, the wines and their story. The military service by both owners, naming of wines with that influence (even the name of the vineyard) and their obvious love of wine making make this one to visit and return to often. We enjoyed the tasting and then taking a bottle outside to watch the horses and cows. It was the 3rd vineyard of the day and by far it was the best experience! read more

I visited the winery and it was great that the owner is a fellow veteran. I found the wines to be okay. I found the reds to be smoky but without the smooth finish. The whites were good. Becky was pourer and was informative and gave me some info about other wineries. May consider coming back. read more

Where do you go when your looking to support a small business AND a veteran owned business in one stop? Here it is. HGV is a great place to relax and enjoy a flight... or two in front of the fire or in the summer, in the gazebo or the porch overlooking the vineyard. Need to spend a weekend? Book a cabin IN the vineyard. Don't forget to visit their Veterans wall, which consists of military photos of family, friends, patrons and their family and friends. Just like CHEERS... this is the place to go "when everyone Knows your name". As an ACE club member, I really enjoy the one on one relationship I have with this family business. Becky & Dean will always be happy to answer any questions you have about their tucked away vineyard. read more

Beautiful view of vineyard from the front porch. Tasting room is well appointed for small or large groups. Very relaxed atmosphere. I'm not really a fan of dry wines, but their Peach Bellini Slushee is worth the trip! (Thanks to Becky for introducing us to the Peach Bellini! But you are the real peach in this scenario!) Owned by veterans, we thank you for your service! We also thank you for settling in NC and opening this great winery! Looking forward to seeing you again soon! read more
