As many wineries in NC that we have been to, we were surprised we had missed Round Peak, so we stopped by recently to try some wines and ciders. Wines: Tart Cherry - definitely tart, way too tart for me. Euphoria - this was not good at all. Peach and Orange Spritzer - this tasted like sparkling water to me, and not enjoyable. Blueberry Mango Spritzer - this also tasted like sparkling water to me, and not enjoyable. Cherry Heaven - thick wine, but it was okay. Indulgence Red Dessert Wine - just okay. Ciders: Blueberry - very tart. Strawberry Rhubarb - strong on the rhubarb, it was fine. Apple - I was not a fan of this one, but my husband thought it was fine. Peach Cider - not a fan Peach Mead Spritzer - not a fan As much as this place had to offer, I was left disappointed in the selection. None of these were for me. The selection of beer, wine, and cider were great. However, the service left a lot to be desired. We were rushed into making a selection, even though there was almost nobody there we ordered a charcuterie board and she didn't even offer crackers or anything else to go with it other than what came in the box I had to go back to the counter to ask for the accompany crackers, and then received an attitude upon asking. The venue is great. The offerings are good. The attitudes leave a lot to be desired. read more

We came primarily for the beer tastings and overall they were decent, there were more light ciders and all of the beers I normally get were in cans and not on the tasting menu or flight. I guess two were the best was the jalapeño IPA, even though I don't like IPAs and the Marzen. There was only one guy working there and bless his heart he was in deep. We visited RPV today and I had a wine flight and my husband had a beer flight. The wine was not good. All of it had a very bitter aftertaste and underdeveloped tannins. Of the four beers my husband tried one of them was okay. Round Leak used to have some good wine. I think they have branched out into many directions and they are not doing anything very well. Pros: I loved the service, design, atmosphere and quality of product. There was a groupon deal for 2 that lured me to the spot. Beautiful patio and comfortable taproom. Cons: I have mixed feelings about my visit here. Unfortunately, my husband was not there to get his share (a beer flight, wine flight, glass of wine, pint of beer) as part of the Groupon deal for 2. When they were gathering up the rest of the offered items, they up-charged $3 to cover the difference of the bottle of wine I chose. Considering they saved quite a bit by not serving up another person's worth of product - I would have thought they could override the confines of the computer check-out program, and let the difference slide; but they didn't. Also: only high gravity beers were available that day; mostly in the stout/porter/ipa styles. There was a listing of all their known brews which included, cream ale, rye and pale ales, but none of these lighter types were around on a 90+ degree day. A well-rounded selection of 4 or 5 styles is what I see in most taprooms. read more

Stopped in here on a short day trip. I kept on seeing signs for vineyards and on our way back to Charlotte, we decided to check out Round Peak. The location is gorgeous. As you pull up to the building, you can see the Blue Ridge Mountains. And around the back, is where all the grapes are grown. Since It's winter, there weren't any tours. They also have some properties on sote they rent out. Inside the tasting room, there's a bar area and a few tables. There are two brands at this location. Round Peak which is the original brand and uses grapes they grow, specializing in French and Italian blends I believe. These are more on the dry side. The second brand of wine is Skull Camp which are sweeter wines they make using different grapes shipped to them. And Skull Camp also has beers so you can taste those also. You can do the tasting several ways. There's a tasting of the month which includes a few wines and tasting cup. Here you can also pay $1 something for each wine you taste. So I chose six to taste, two whites, two reds and two Skull Camp sweet wines. I lean toward white wines. There is one called Bent Door where the grapes are fermented in their skins and aged in a fresh charred oak barrel. And I do love drinks aged in charred barrels. It had a full smooth taste. I took a bottle home. I also really enjoyed the skull camp sangria. It wasn't too sweet and had a fruity taste. The first lady helping me was great. She explained ea h wine she poured, but then another lady started helping me and she just poured. I enjoy hearing the background. I'd love to see this place in warmer weather. read more

This was our very first stop at a winery in North Carolina. We couldn't of asked for a better view or the taste of good wine. All of the wines I tried we're good. Nothing knocked me out of the park. The hostess was friendly and nice. It cost $10 for a flight and a glass was on them. We purchased as we went which was $1 per tastings. The wine tasted good. I went with a cab franc. Wife and daughter went with Sangria. My daughter asked about legs and the hostess said means nothing. But she's wrong. It provides an idea of the alcohol content in the wine. I didn't want to embarrass her. The wine glasses say Skull Hill and Round peak. I asked the difference. She said that the new owner that purchased the winery came up with the name to be for there sweet wines and beer. Plus in the back you can see Skull Hill Mountain and then Round Peak is to your right. Very cool place to visit. read more

Wow what a great experience! We had both beer and wine lovers and got a variation of both beer and wine. They have great IPA, ales, porters and stouts to choose from. We were with some pretty picky craft beer people and they both found a glass they liked to drink. I love my big bold reds and found one that I absolutely loved. Great news is they have a little bit of everything to choose from for wine lovers as well. White wine, rose and red wines (a little dry, sweet and semi-sweet) and all were pretty good. I would highly recommend enjoying a glass of your choice alcohol on the back porch with a beautiful view of the vines! Go for the views! We spent an entire Saturday afternoon here basically enjoying the view off their back patio. I had a flight of beer and thought they had a good offering, but it is limited. The Elkin location has more beer offerings than Mount Airy does. However, after the flight, I had a couple of their cans which was better, in my opinion. You can choose four beers for the flight or six wines for the tasting. My husband tried the wine and liked it, but enjoyed the beer more. I have to personally recommend the basin creek blonde beer that tasted fabulous on a hot, sunny summer afternoon. This place will not disappoint. read more

After your tasting make sure to go out back for the view. I did not go the first time I visited, but the second time I went with family and enjoyed the view with a bottle of wine and Knuckle Dragger. I wanted so badly to love the wines but it just didn't do it for me. We did the "Spirit of France" wine tasting and most of the wines (to me) had a peppery finish and it just wasn't very good. We started our day at Childress Winery where our girl explained each wine with such detailed info and explained what the wine paired well with. Unfortunately , our lady at Round Peak was nice but we got no explanation other then the name of the wine and she would walk away to check her phone or drink her Big Gulp. This place has so much potential if they would step up their customer service game as well as offer a better selection of wines. Maybe add an additional wine tasting for white wine and/ or a mix of both (4 and 4 of each). Lastly, you should make it for adults only or have a separate area for parents with children. We endured almost our entire tasting with a tiny baby screaming and crying right next to us. read more

Round Peak Vineyards is a very cool and relaxing spot right outside of Mount Airy. It is an awesome place to spend a Sunday afternoon, whether you are from the area or are just passing through. Round Peak offers both their own wine and beer brewed on site. The brewery is called Skull Camp and is offered on tap at some local places in the area. This winery is kind of off the beaten path, and although it is technically in Mount Airy, it is about 20-30 minutes outside of Downtown Mount Airy. That being said, it is worth the drive out. I would plan on spending at least a couple of hours here. We came out on a Sunday afternoon to check out Round Peak. I am a fan of both beer and wine so this was an awesome place for me. We decided to first do a wine tasting. The wine tasting is a great deal and is fairly low key. You just check whatever wines you want to try from the menu and the person pouring will choose the right order for you to taste. Each tasting of wine is only a dollar (so if you try five wines, then it is only $5). All of the wines that we tried were very good. They have both sweet and dry options. My favorite was the Cab Franc, but they also had some nice blends. After the wine tasting, we decided to do a beer tasting as well. They had five of their own beers on tap (A red, IPA, Black IPA, Porter, and Bourbon Barrel aged Stout). Once again, all of these were very good. My favorite was the IPA, but that is just my preference. The Bourbon Barrel aged Stout was also very good. As with the wine tasting, you could choose any number of beers that you wanted to try. Each tasting was a $1.25. They have a small inside area where the bar is and they put on the tastings. This area is nice and modern, but the real reason to come here is for the view that you get on the patio out back. It is a large area with a good amount of tables. You can enjoy a drink out here while soaking in the view of the vines and the backdrop of the mountains. This is a great spot for conversation and really just soaking in the scenery. Round Peak is a great option to fill an afternoon, especially if you have both beer and wine drinkers in your party. This will definitely make everyone happy. Everything is very reasonably priced and the tastings especially are a bargain. The view is incredible and the back patio is the perfect place to relax. We will absolutely be back and will bring friends. read more

This winery was amazing! Definitely one of the highlights of my East coast road-trip. There are a couple other wineries in the area, but this one I believe had the BEST views, plus you can actually take a trip through the vineyards and explore. We came here initially just to hand out for maybe 30 minutes before heading towards Charlotte, but we ended up meeting and hanging out with some cool people here and had a great time. Also, the wonderful lady in the front was very helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend anyone to make a stop here if you are in the area! read more
