My wife and I called Sanders And Johnson to service our evaporated cooler. They came out and replaced one part, a solenoid. They charged us $475 for the part. Those parts run around $40. When I got a call back from their manager, he explained the difference was due to the book rate they use and to cover their overhead costs. I called the main Sanders and Johnson number on a Sunday evening. My kitchen sink was leaking into the cabinet below. The woman who answered my call said a service person would be out the following day - I was to receive a call for an ETA by 9:00 a.m. on Monday. After no contact was made by 9:45 a.m. Monday, I called the office. CORI, the receptionist, told me she had called me earlier in the day, got no answer and cancelled my appointment. I told her my phone was with me all morning and I had not received a call. She reiterated no one would be coming out for service. I asked to speak with the manager. The manager, AMANDA, told me she - not Cori - was actually the person who had tried to contact me. She said she had called twice and both times received a message that the number was not in service. She verified my phone number with me - which was correct. I told her I was calling from that same phone and it was working properly. Amanda then admitted she HAD NOT TRIED TO CALL AT ALL. She said the company was really too busy to come out for my service and no openings were available in the near future. When I responded how unhappy I was about the situation, she replied, 'There are hundreds of other plumbers out there - call one of them'. I asked to speak with the owner, DAN JOHNSON. I had a great experience with Sanders & Johnson. I had a gas leak and CO Gas shut off my service to move my meter. I needed about 40 feet of new pipe installed. The gas company gave me a list of plumbers to contact. I live in Bailey, and getting someone to even call me back was a challenge. I was able to get a couple quotes and S&J was competitive and seemed to know more about the job than others I talked to. The technician, Zabih, did great work installing the gas line as I desired - blending with the home architecture as much as possible. Getting the inspector to the home was a challenge, but Zabih made return trips to pressurize the line for testing when the inspector was a no-show, and also when he finally showed up several days later. Zabih also worked closely with the gas company to complete the hookup and get the gas turned back on. Nathan from S&J also filled in when Zabih was on another job. He was fantastic also. So from bud, quote, service and follow-up, these guys are great. I've worked in the HVAC space for many years, and S&H is at the top of the heap. I'm glad they service my area and do it so well! Called to clear a drain. Customer service was good until the plumber got to the house. He insisted on pulling a toilet to scope the drain rather than use the nearby cleanout. Charged me nearly $700 to do it. Upon reinstalling the toilet, he did not fully remove the wax ring, and did not secure the toilet properly. I did it myself after he left. He also claimed that the smell was bad (which was fair, because he pulled a toilet), and his solution wax to dump a chemical all over my bathroom floor, which damaged the slate tile. He did not clear the drain, because there was a slight offset on a pipe, which he said he would be unable to fix unless I "removed the deck" on the outside of my home. Another company came out and fixed it. Oh, and they scoped the line from the cleanout. read more

Disingenuous practices. I had a technician come trouble shoot my AC. The technician spent a total of MAYBE 15 minutes on site including the replacement of my capacitor. They charged me $139 for the visit and $212 for the part. After the technician left, I was curious to see exactly how much the part costs.....$12 on any site I could find. I messaged dispatch@sandersandjohnson.com. This is what they responded with: 139.00 is a trip fee with the diagnosis to run test on your system to locate the issue. 212.08 is the capacitor and labor charges for installing the part. This covers our overhead and warranty with very little room for any profit at all. We do not install any parts purchased by homeowner. Unfortunately we do not compete with the internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I understand the $139 for the trip fee, but less than 15 minutes of work costs $200???? And I also understand a mark up on parts, but 10-20X is insane. Stay away from this place. If you are not mechanically inclined and don't do proper research they will get you!! "Honest Work for Honest Prices" is the moto on their business card and very much my experience with this company. I had 4 quotes to replace a water heater, that needed to be moved, brought up to code on several items, and to have the floo replaced out through the roof. Their price was in the middle of the quotes, though all were relatively close. I went with them b/c they took time to point out things that would need to be done "with whomever I went with" and pitfalls other people might not cover. They also brought up additional safety measures they would do on the project. As for the work itself, Erik and Quinn (who also did the quote) were on time and got the job done thoroughly and in a reasonable time & were very professional. There were no surprises on the pricing, and all the things pointed out in the quote were done, along with everything being explained to me too with the new set up. the office staff with scheduling were also really great to work with. My daughter has a duplex in Capitol Hill that had the furnace replaced about 8 years ago. Within the last couple of years it developed a problem of starting up in the morning, running for a bit, and then shutting down. Restarting took some work. This problem was most frequent during very cold weather when the furnace was needed the most. We had 4 different HVAC contractors (some of the most recognizeable names in Denver) investigate the problem without success. Although none could identify the problem, they all concluded that replacing the furnace was the answer to solving the problem. Out of total frustration we started calling HVAC contractors at random and happened to get Mike at Sanders & Johnson. From the initial conversation he demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the design of furnace systems. Upon arrival for a service visit he went right to work reviewing the system design and collecting the data and measurements needed to evaluate the system. Within an hour he identified what he believed to be the problem, made a tweak to the system, and said to call him if that didn't do it. Following Mike's visit the furnace has worked perfectly through some periods of very cold weather which would have triggered the problem. And that was accomplished with no replacement parts and certainly no replacement of the furnace. Considering our experience with some of the most experienced and well-known HVAC contractors in Denver without success, it's hard to fully express how impressed we are with Mike and Sanders & Johnson. Customer Beware !!!!! This company installed my furnace, AC, and hot water tank 8 years ago when it was Sanders and Johnson. It has since been bought out and not the same owners. My AC was not cooling the house below 79 degrees. I called for a technician on July 1 2021 They told me over the phone it would cost $139 to diagnose the unit..When the technician was done checking my AC he said the refrigerant was low and was leaking oil but he couldn't find the leak. He called his supervisor and a different technician has to come out to diagnose the AC. When I was getting ready to write the check he said the fee is now $315 because it took an extra half hour to diagnose. At this point I became very upset with the tech and this amount. He really didn't do that much work and my AC unit still wasn't working. I should have never paid him that amount. The new Sanders and Johnson doesn't want to keep old customers. I called a different company from the Tom Martino referral list the company is called Northglenn heating and air. the technician found the leak right away .It was a faulty valve stem that cost $0.89 cents and the leak was very obvious. He replaced it and topped off my refrigerant with 3 pounds in less then 1 hour and that total cost was $347. My AC unit is working perfectly now. Why couldn't the Sanders and Johnson tech find the leak? This is not the same Sanders and Johnson!!!!!!!!! They ripped me off of $315. read more

July 2020, we had Sanders and Johnson install a hot water heater. What should have been an easy installation, turned into the worst customer service we have ever experienced. After it was installed, they had to come out two more times that same day for a leak in the plumbing. After they left, it took several hours to clean up the mess the techs had left. The next morning, we called Sanders and Johnson about concerns we had, not only with the plumbing job,but also the position of the hot water heater tray and why no pipe or hose was put on to be piped to the basement drain. We requested that a manager or the owner come out to take a look at the job that was performed. We were told to send pictures, which we did. Instead of calling, they emailed us stating they did not see any issues or concerns. On the second day and after, they would not even answer our phone calls. We contacted a well known plumbing company because of our concerns. Because of the improper installation, it cost us $1,018.00 to have it done correctly. In the end, instead of simply coming out to look at our concerns, they turned it over to their company lawyer. We were told in an email on Sept. 1st, our request for any compensation was denied. We were also "advised" by their lawyer to not call or email Sanders and Johnson and to not visit their place of business . In addition, we were told to be cautious about making any comments or reviews regarding Sanders and Johnson. By far, the worst customer service we have ever received in the 43 years of being a homeowner. read more

I called Sanders and Johnson in a panic as my 20+ year old furnace was not blowing any heat during the weekend in January. Honestly, I fully expected to be told that it needed to be replaced for $3000 and that I'd have to ask a million questions to make sure that I was being swindled. Jesse, the service tech, showed up on time (awesome #1), was professional and respectful (awesome #2), spoke to me as if I am capable of understanding basic mechanics which as an engineer I definitely am (awesome #3), and recommended a quick inexpensive repair that he had parts for on his truck (awesome #4). Jesse told me he has worked at Sanders and Johnson for over 20 years and likely installed this unit in my home (we are the 2nd owners). He is really a nice person and seemed to like his job. I called them at 8:10am this morning to verify service today, and they said that they would be there between Noon and 2pm. I was delayed getting home due to a traffic accident (not me) and arrived at the house at 12:03pm and no one was there. They had left a message on my phone at 11:54am asking me to call their office. When I did call, they said that their technician had rung the doorbell repeatedly and since I wasn't home, they left. When the office person called them to see if they could return, she said they were already on the interstate and couldn't. It makes me wonder what time they left the house. I called to confirm in the morning that I would be there, and they couldn't wait 3 minutes. Never again! read more

Don't use this company. The new owners do not have the same ethics or workmanship. Just had an inspection by another company on furnace/ac installed by S&J in 2019 (would have done it sooner but Covid...). The tech found a number of things that S&J "overlooked" upon installation and fixed them. Some things not to code, such as double wall pipes I did not fix due to expense. When I had the installation the "techs" had all kinds of issues, made multiple trips to Home Depot? to get parts, did not fully test the final system, and had to make three return calls to fix problems with installation (no hot water day after, humidifier not tested and not started, tubing crimped in water outflow (which caused banging pipes), a/c stopped working - "loose wire", had to re/design and reinstall outside venting inlet, a/c not leveled). Found out after installation that installers had been with S&J less than a month and only one was NATE technician. Other issues: failed to file rebate, charged permit to card without authority and no receipts. When I called to talk to the owner?/manager?, Dan, he was extremely rude, yelled at me over the phone and then hung up on me. I would not trust any reviews before 2018. read more

Writing on behalf of my parents who are not tech savvy. Be aware of using this company for hot water installation!! After their second time of coming out to repair the issues with the initial install, they left solder on the hot water heater and pvc air intake pipe (which melted holes in it), damaged the concrete that surrounds the basement drain and left standing water in the hot water pan among other things. What made it worse was when they tried to call the company to see if they could check the gas line (which also had solder on it) and clean up the items, they did not return any calls and everytime my mother called to speak to a supervisor, they were conveniently out of the office. They were not looking for monetary compensation or anything outrageous...they felt as loyal customers for 10+ years, the company should have taken responsibility for their lazy work. We had a technician come to our condo a couple weeks ago to look at our air conditioner that wasn't turning on. First, he could not figure out which A/C unit was ours. It took him 45 minutes to figure it out, AFTER I made an obvious suggestion. Then he basically told us that it was not fixable. He didn't do a single thing AND charged us over $200. It seemed like the employee was extremely new to the job. We had a great reference so we were expecting top notch service, but we did not receive that at all... and now we are out $200 and still don't have AC. My family had a terrific experience with Sanders and Johnson. One of our children turned our thermostat down to 48 degrees during the middle of the summer. The unit completely froze up and the blower had ice on it two inches thick. S&J were out that evening and had repaired the unit. Responsive, professional and reasonably priced. Thank you for the great service, and high integrity. My mother is 85 years old, and was having problems with her heater. A different vendor came over to her house and flat out lied to her about what was wrong and tried to take advantage of her because she was aged. They had indicated high soot build up, possible carbon monoxide leak, and suggested a new $5000 furnace. I asked Sanders and Johnson to go take a look to confirm the diagnosis and to give me a competitive bid. The service manager went out there and it turns out it only needed a new switch. This company came cleaned my furnace and installed a a thermostat for me and all was great. when I had an issue with wires and the thermostat I asked them to come out again. I asked price, the woman could not give a quote, I said It will be under 50 bucks right, she responded oh yes it should be less than that. The man came to fix this, and spent 15 min discussing what I had already explained in detail (they charge 110 an hr) and then he added new batteries, which were my batteries. and checked the wires (never connected the power wire, so now it runs all off battery) and then he charged 110. 110 for literally putting batteries in a thermostat and not even hooking the correct power wires! I was upset, called 4 times and finally got the owner, JIM SANDERS, to contact me. I began explaining my issue, totally calm, and he interrupted me, yelled at me, and begin using profanity because he said my boyfriend was cursing about the price when the worker was there. Not too sure but think being robbed by any company causes anger and the price was unfair and not what was told to me. To have the owner call back a female yelling at me, cursing at me, then hung up on me. This is a horrible company, any company that can not quote basic fees is shady. and any company that has an owner that yells and curses at customers is a joke in itself. read more

My AC wasn't cooling. They came out the next day which was far better than any other company. They assumed I had a leak (which is very expenisve to check for and repair) and refilled with freon to last a little while longer while I price out new ones. One of the owners came out for an estimate for a new unit. It seemed high so I am pricing out with other companies to compare. But he took his time explaining things and how to make my unit more efficient. I loved that he took his time. Then just tonight I noticed that the freon is freezing over so I called them at 9pm on a Friday. The emergency line told me someone would call me right away and he did. This man explained what was most likely happening and then suggested ways to keep the house cool. Extremely helpful and responsive! The only reason why I am not giving 5 stars is because I felt the estimate seemed high. They also put a furnace in my old house and was very happy with them during that transition as well! read more
