Actual Solution from independent plumber- just re-caulk the drain in the shower. Fixed it right up - the pipes were in perfect condition. Cost: $0.10 of caulk and maybe five minutes of work, $25 for diagnostic. 2. Heating in one of our two zones not working. Eco Plumbing Proposed solution- something is probably caught in the pipes to zone two or some other weird thing I can't remember- it was a very long explanation. Estimated cost: ~$1,000, a day of work. Actual Solution from independent plumber- THE VALVE TO THE OTHER ZONE WAS CLOSED. I don't know if I should be more embarrassed than Eco Plumbing or what. Wait. Actually I do. Cost: Same $25 as above and three seconds of work. 3. Boiler is old as hell. This wasn't an issue to us really- the shit works. But to Eco, this was a pending disaster of epic proportions. During the pitch we were given, he explained that he would basically re-pipe the entire house and replace it with 'Expensive Brand X' (which was mentioned verbally about 15 times) for $15,000. While the initial rough-in work was done well, the management and office communication since then has been an absolute disaster. I have been trying for three weeks to get them to finish the final trim and fixture installation: Week 1 & 2: I was repeatedly promised the technician would call me to schedule. I was completely ignored both weeks. Week 3: I finally got them to schedule a day. I received numerous text/email confirmations, took time off to be home, and nobody showed up. When I called for an update, the office admitted they never actually dispatched anyone and failed to tell me. This Week: They rescheduled the original technician for Thursday. On Wednesday, they called to say he had been in an accident and rescheduled him for Friday instead. On Friday morning, they called to cancel again, stating the technician couldn't make it due to the accident. Why did management schedule an injured employee for active field duty without checking his condition, rather than simply sending a different electrician to finish the job? My project is completely stalled, the wires are sitting exposed, and I have paid 100% upfront for labor and fixtures. I asked to speak directly with a manager to settle this, but my request was ignored. I have deep sympathy for the injured technician, but this company's administrative staff is completely incompetent, dishonest about dispatching, and uncommunicative. Nick cleared the blockage with a chain knocker in about 10 minutes for ~$1,500. The Denver avg. for a main line clearing is $440-$750 (Angi, 2026). Local companies start as low as $95-$300. Another contractor told me a chain knocker wasn't necessary for this job and can damage pipe. Nick then quoted $32,500 for the repair, measuring the pipe at 13 feet deep. A second contractor using higher-grade equipment measured the same spot at "no more than 9.5 feet" and was transparent about every dollar from the start. Three other quotes for the identical repair came in between $19,250 and $23,711, all with concrete work included. Nick's was at least $8,000 higher than all of them. Don't let an emergency back you into the first price you hear.

About two weeks before this past Sunday, 9/27, I had contacted a plumbing company I had used for several years to help with an emergency involving a flooded floor drain, drain clearing, a camera inspection, and more. Unfortunately, their prices had increased significantly, and I ultimately declined their services. That left me back at square one. When the plumbing issue came up again, I contacted HomeService Plumbing. Honestly, it was a random pick -- but I can say without hesitation that it was a really GREAT pick! I called and was able to get an appointment scheduled immediately, within a 2-3 hour window. The first technician to arrive was Brandon. He was professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. I explained everything that was happening and also shared what I had already had inspected and quoted by the previous company. Brandon was upfront and straightforward with me. He answered all of my questions and explained everything in detail. He didn't hesitate -- he got right to work, completed the service I requested, and then explained other options that could potentially resolve the situation. This is where I became hesitant because I realized this was a major plumbing decision that no homeowner wants to hear about. Brandon offered to have their camera technician, Luke, come out and take a closer look. I must have gone back and forth with Brandon at least 10 times before I finally agreed. Luke arrived, and once again, I was extremely impressed. He was professional, knowledgeable, and knew exactly what he was there to do. He provided excellent service and explained, in detail, every feasible and affordable option available to me. Luke even went the extra-extra mile by offering a one-time service that isn't typically offered. I was honestly overwhelmed with gratitude -- it literally brought tears to my eyes. I had previously used HomeService for several small jobs and had been satisfied. Then I asked them to correct low hot-water pressure at a bathtub. Their initial quote was over $13,000. When I hesitated and said I wanted other estimates, the plumber went back and forth with his manager by phone and, within minutes, the price dropped to $7,000. After the work began, I was told another problem had been discovered and was asked for an additional $2,000. I objected but agreed to another $1,000, bringing the price to $8,000. One plumber ultimately spent approximately 8-10 hours on the project. When he finished, he called and insisted that I immediately authorize the final credit-card payment. I told him I would be at the property within 45 minutes and wanted to inspect the work first. He continued pressing me for immediate payment to the point that the conversation became extremely unpleasant. When I arrived, he had left. We found several aspects of the work that we considered sloppy. To the company's credit, the manager sent another plumber the following day who addressed our concerns, and we were satisfied with the corrected work. Management subsequently gave me a $500 credit, making my final cost $7,500. I appreciated the adjustment, but it did not change my overall impression of the experience. What troubles me most is the pricing: more than $13,000 initially, approximately $7,000 minutes later, followed by another requested $2,000 after the job began. I ultimately paid $7,500 for a project on which one plumber spent roughly 8-10 hours. I should have stopped and obtained competing bids. I didn't because I needed the plumbing problem fixed and didn't know what the work should reasonably cost. That's precisely why I'm writing this review. My advice: don't assume the first--or even the substantially reduced--price you're quoted reflects what the job should cost. Get two or three independent estimates be aware that Homeservice may ask to be paid an unconscionable amount. If you don't like to negotiate and don't want to run the risk of being ripped off, stay clear of Homeservice Plumbers.
