I have teen and tween boys, so you better believe that I would end up at Sandbox VR at some point. We visited on a rainy day, which was neat because this is a great rainy-day activity for kids and adults. There are a few different experiences to choose from, and we did the Age of Dinosaurs experience. It was very fun and interactive, but I think this particular experience skews a little more toward younger kids. There was a Stranger Things one that I think would probably be good for older kids. I believe they change the experiences up every once in a while, so there's always something new to do. My kids are pros at VR, but this was my first time! I was wondering if I'd get motion sickness, but no, everything was fine. The people who work here are so great! They explain everything every step of the way, from the time you step inside until your VR experience is over. It's a great time and I have been here 4 times now. The staff are great at answering questions and helping you put the Velcro sensors on. Over the years the equipment has gotten better and the current visors are state of the art. The vest used to be heavy, but now they are lightweight. We got there early and overheard other players which was funny to listen to. We had Red as our game guide. They explained the importance of the technology clearly. Every game has an introduction to teach you to play before beginning. Such a fun game and so immersive- I could have sworn the ground was really moving. I did have to pause at one moment to get my leg piece adjusted and Red helped quickly. I think the game length is a good amount of time which I was unsure about before playing. ZERO STARS. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I During a visit out of state from Washington to Indiana, I planned to take my cousin to Sandbox VR as a birthday present. I called the establishment to book the visit hoping to for a deal when purchasing multiple packages. The person I booked the experience with via telephone was very pleasant and helpful and recommended I pay a deposit to guarantee my spot. At no time during that phone was it made clear to me that there would be a five minute window for arriving to appointment, that if missed would cause your appointment to be rescheduled. I was not told that the deposit is non refundable and can only be used towards future Sandbox VR visits. We were driving to Indianapolis from New Castle, IN, and unfamiliar with the area. I had to search quite a while for parking and we were not expecting that much traffic on the weekend. The experience was scheduled for 6:55pm. We arrived at the door at 7:01pm, maybe 7:02pm at the latest. The person who would have checked us in was named Jordan. He informed me of the 5 minute window for making the appointment at that time. I explained to him that we came from out of town and had trouble finding parking and did not know about the 5 minute window. Jordan continued to behave as if our presence was an inconvenience and told me the earliest he could reschedule us for was 8:55pm. I explained to Jordan that we had a dinner reservation for my cousins birthday at 8:30pm and asked if he could at any way help us, I did not know about the 5 minute window. Jordan was uncaring, rude and unwilling to assist. I explained that I came from out of state and was leaving in a few days and we would not be able to revisit the establishment. I asked Jordan if I could get a refund for the deposit if we are unable to keep the appointment because of their unwillingness to assist. He said the deposit can only go towards future visits to Sandbox VR and that I could not get a refund. I told Jordan that I was unaware of this rule concerning them keeping the deposit. He rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders and said that information is online. I told Jordan that I booked the visit over the phone and he again shrugged his shoulders to let me know he was unconcerned and unwilling to help. I asked if there is anyone else I could talk to and Jordan said he was the highest management working at Sandbox VR that day. I would give zero stars. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I don't want to give my money to an establishment that treats their costumers so poorly and did not clearly communicate at any time that if I were more than 5 minutes late the entire experience would be rebooked and at no time was I told that if they refused to allow me to keep my appointment time that I would also not be allowed a refund on the deposit. I live in Washington and the nearest Sandbox VR is 146 miles from me. I would not recommend booking your VR experience at this Sandbox. read more

It's such an amazing place for any gamer. I had a great time playing Amber Sky 2088 with my team. I definitely wasn't expecting it to feel like we were in the game. The entire setup was amazing. It's a lot of fun. I went a an adult with two 13 year old boys. We had a lot of fun. Tavia was our person and she did an excellent job explaining things to us, getting us suited up and unsuited, etc. I only rated 4 stars because it is a serious "wallet biopsy" to pay neatly $60 per person for essentially 30 minutes of VR fun. At $120/hour if that was a wage, it's seems it more for celebrating special occasions rather than regular outings on weekends or weekdays. read more

This was such a fun activity! I've been wanting to come here for a while, and I'm so glad we finally got the chance to do it. We did the Squid Game experience, which is a great one to start with if you're feeling nervous (lol, me). I've done VR before, but this was a much more intense experience than anything I've tried. Once they take you back into the room, they explain the directions and mention that once you have the headset on, you cannot take it off yourself. Instead, you have to raise your arm and call for assistance if there's an issue, and they will come help you. Of course, I didn't love that! Anyway, I realized that once you put the goggles on, it really feels like your new reality! For those who are nervous or anxious--if you look straight down, you can kind of see your real feet and the ground, which is super reassuring. Now, onto the game: It was sooo fun! In our group, there was just one other couple, and honestly, if there had been more people, it might have felt too chaotic. I did run into someone twice, but it was fine. Just a reminder--if someone looks close to you in VR, they really are that close. The games were all centered around Squid Game but slightly tweaked due to space constraints. By the time we finished (after an hour), I felt like I had just done a workout--I was actually sweating a little! Definitely did not expect that. Docking a star because when we got there we stood at the host stand for 2 minutes (in front of two employees chatting) before I got their attention. Checked the website for reservations online the night before and morning of attempting to check the experience out. It showed availability for the times we wanted (and decided to let the kids pick their experience when they got there) Upon arriving, the staff seemed inconvenienced to help. She said they were busy and wouldn't have time to "put us in". She checked "in back" and said they only had availability "much later". We re-checked the website to book after lunch, there was availability, but before putting in our credit card number, I checked with the lady working. She told me that "the website reservations are not accurate so you really can't count on them being real". How is this an effective way to run a business. The family coming in behind me was about to get the same "experience". Would have been great to check this out, but won't be back out of pure annoyance. It is not the physical or virtual realty experience I desire to prioritize my family time for. Bottleworks is a great spot though! I hope something better comes into this space. read more

I had been waiting such a long time to check out sandbox Vr at the Bottleworks district. This was a fun and exciting experience to spend time with family. We choose to play "Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire". Once the game started, my cousin was having great luck by playing unfortunately, my headset wasn't working at all. The employees came in to fix it and after the second time of them fixing it we were ready to start the game. It's a was great workout game that kept us on our toes the entire time. Side note: Just make sure you wear loose clothes because it can get extremely hot in there. Luckily, they have fans that blow occasionally throughout the experience. read more

This was one of the worse experiences I had First let me say the game it's self was fun little lagging here and there but overall if you played vr or have a oculus then you'll be entertained NOW. We had a reservation after waiting about 40 mins was told things are running behind and they was having complications with some equipment, we talked to one of the employees and stated that we was wondering how long and they said it would be a minute, a long minute he took our number and said if we wanted to go grab a bite to eat he would text us 15 minutes before we need to be back, after a hour of us being outside after eating we show up and notice 3 other groups ahead of us that came in after us we asked the guy and asked what was going o. And he forgot about us and didn't put us in the system right, so another employee came and asked what happened? This guy moved some people around which kinda upset them, and as we are getting ready they was still wiping down equipment I went to grab a rag and help and they said no don't they would get in trouble I said let me talk to the manager or big dog in charge and was told they are out of town and they have no other manger, it had been almost 3 hours since we checked in, I was ready to be done at this point VERY understaffed especially for a Saturday night that was good night to be out ,the waiting area isn't big or let's say comfortable to accommodate to many people 4 dollars for water then they had some options for snack that probably could have paid the rent for that day on the space. It was about $55/pp. We had a group of 6. They picked to fight the zombies. The check-in was smooth. The workers were extremely nice and helpful. Everyone seemed happy to be at work. They made the birthday boy feel special. It was fun watching them on the screen. I loved how they put the players name on the screen as if they had starred in a film. The birthday celebration and song at the end was the cutest and unexpected. In the end, they show you a snippet of your movie and give you access to the movie as well. But after you pay, the game itself is fun. My husband went with a group of friends so I watched. You can pick the kind of you want to play, like a Zombie take over. They give you scores at the end so you can see who came in first. Another note: if you are in the tall 6 ft range be prepared for the game to glitch. My husband and his brother are 6'8 and 6'7 and the game continued to glitch and the staff said it was their height. We tried one of the newer Deadwood Phobia games for my son's 18th birthday. The experience itself was very fun. There was some lagging with the game but overall it was very entertaining and you definitely get sweaty. Expect to wait over an hour past the time you schedule an appointment, even if you book online. We scheduled a time of 9:30 pm and didn't actually get started until after 10:45. To make it worse, we were early because the policy online says you lose your reservation if you're more than 5 minutes late. Asking for updates, we were told corporate's policy is to overbook the rooms by the manager and when we asked how much longer she gave us a different time each time. We weren't able to go across the street to the garage to wait because the manager said we would lose our reservation. So we were tired, hot, and agitated from sitting in the lobby before we even went back. The workers seemed over worked and stressed out, even though they were trying to be helpful. This place is an AWESOME EXPERIENCE! If you are unfamiliar with VR -- it is an immersive experience through the use of wearable technology. Think along the lines of using your entire body as the controller. This was my second ever experience with VR and I loved it. The reservation and check-in process was super easy and quick. PLEASE NOTE: entire group MUST be there prior to getting called back. We didn't have a wait at all and once we got all geared up, we were in the room and receiving instructions on how to play. I had a great time and it is honestly a workout! My team came out sweating, so you may want to bring a change of clothes. This was soooo fun. It's $50 person for 30-40 mins and you will have that much play time. My husband and I went for date night. There is a team of 6 in one room. So we were grouped with a family of 4. You get to choose your weapon ( shootgun , pistols ect.) It does take a while to get equipped which was fine. Our reservation was at 10:15pm we start getting equipment until 11pm. Seemed as if the were behind. The staff was great. They explained everything and answered any questions asked. There was a few time where they had to stop the game due to weapons not working properly but the technical support was right on top of it. My only recommendation is that you go with a whole team of six people that you know to make the experience more personable. At the end of the game there is a dance party and it shows your rankings and kills ect. Great experience. 10/10 read more

The whole experience was neat. We had made a reservation and didn't get back there and set up until about 45 minutes after the reservation time. My screen kept glitching and going out of service so I walked closer to the worker for assistance and she gaslit me and told me that it was because I was close to the red line. I tried telling her it was happening all of the area and that I was just trying to get closer to her for help. I wish I could leave zero stars but unfortunately, I have to choose one. First of all, we came here to celebrate my birthday. I have seen this place all over TIKTOK with rave reviews. Maybe the other locations are better but they Indy location missed the mark. It's a fun and great idea. It's pretty expensive for the amount of problems we experienced. Customer service is absolutely paramount and sandbox vr missed it. If you have a business that is obviously drawing in business d/T viral videos on social media etc, and the equipment is KNOWN to fail, please have the utmost customer service. This establishment LACKS customer service. We reserved a time for 830pm. We were told it would be at least 30-45mins before our session was ready. We were told they were running behind because they had technical difficulties all day. We weren't happy about the wait time but we're looking forward to it so we waited the additional time. We finally got a room and got to play and with in 5-10 minutes; one of our headsets goes out. They spend another 10mins or so trying to get the game to come back up. At this point, we are tired. We have paid for parking and spent money at the garage and requested a refund. Travis tells us that we can't get a refund because we played for 10 minutes but can offer a voucher. Travis is very defensive and should not be in a customer service position. He does not handle upset patrons and resolve conflict at all. In fact he escalated customers dissatisfaction by stating things like "I match energy" and "I'm not calling a manger and waking them up". However, Dominique did in fact call Sid the general manager and our reservation was canceled immediately. I think it's really sad that people like Travis is the face of sandbox that I will remember and there for have no desire to patronize this business again. I hope they can resolve these issues for future patrons. read more

ROUGH TIMES! Very funny to see the difference between the Google reviews and the Yelp reviews for this place. It seems like management doesn't really know about Yelp because they don't seem to respond? I read the mixed reviews and decided to give it a try anyway because it seemed like a fun double date night. The directions specifically said to be there early and we could lose our spot if we were more than 5 minutes late so we rushed through eating and stressed over finding a parking spot on Mass Ave on a Saturday night only to wait...and wait...and wait. No one was there at check-in to explain anything. It was unclear if I just checked in as the person who made the reservation or if everyone needed to individually check in. No instructions. The same replay on a screen over and over again. Used the restroom while we waited, it was filthy! After 30 minutes, we asked what was going on and one employee said he couldn't tell us and to ask someone else...so we waited to find him and talk to him. After 45 minutes, we told him we had a babysitter at home and really needed to know what time we were going to get started. FINALLY we got to start and received 0 instructions. The game just started and off we went. My video completely cut off at one point and I raised my hand and yelled and yelled but no one responded. It eventually came back on and I just rolled with it. Overall, the game took about 30 minutes. So I paid $220 for 4 of us for a 30 minute activity with 0 instructions or help and having to wait almost an hour. The game itself was fun but I needed more time to figure out what was happening and how to use my "powers" and weapon. The service auto populated a review the day after and I shared my feedback and got 0 response back. I don't know why they can't run on time! They know how long the games last! What a blast! Brandon greeted us from the moment we walked in and guided us through the process. We chose Deadwood Mansion after much research. We had a few technical glitches, but really not a big deal and Brandon fixed them quickly. There were some moments when the zombies seemed like they were within a few inches of you and rats were crawling right at your feet. I chose the pistols which I liked. This place is located in the heart of Mass Ave. prime location for a great night out with family and friends. Went here for my birthday weekend, and had a lot of fun. Everybody lifted their VR headset and had a smile on their face. Oh and sweat. Lots of perspiration lol. 30min for $300 ($50ea. X 6 people) is not that worth it but you do enjoy yourself so idk. We had so much fun at Sandbox VR! You can make reservations ahead of time online (or I think do walk in, but don't quote me on that one.. ). After signing our waivers, our guide showed us how to put on the gear and we selected our players and weapons. For the dragon quest game, if you want to be slightly less active, choose the crossbow. We had 4 players but you can do 2-6. I cannot imagine how 6 people fit in that space but maybe they adjust the arena size depending on number of players? 4 was just right for us. All in all it took about an hr with 40ish minutes of play. No one got motion sick, but we did get a work out! Overall super fun. read more

When we arrived the staff was horse playing and FaceTiming their friends on their phone. We weren't greeted and after 10 minutes of sitting around they asked us if we signed in. By the way, this was during the weekday and there were no other customers in the building but us. For $150+ dollars I expected better service. When we got our gear on and started playing there were multiple times where it glitched and the images weren't clear. I had to keep adjusting my headset to focus in on what I was looking at. I can say during the times it wasn't glitching and wasn't blurry it was a fantastic experience. The story layout and trials presented were interesting and fun if the issues didn't occur earlier my 2 star rating would be 5. Potential is there just a lot to improve here. read more

At 4:30, went to staff and said we had been there for an hour and we were 1/2 hour past our start time. Zero apologies, staff could not have cared less. Did say they would refund my money. Glad we booked this a month in advance. Lame experience. In hindsight, after watching equipment being cleaned, probably was for the best. Just hated getting everyone there and wasting our time. I think what disappointed me the most is their strict reservation policy. They make it very clear in your booking that your entire party must be no more than 5 minutes late or else the entire booking will be canceled without a refund. Our group rushed and ran to the building after trying to find parking because we were scared that we would be late only to find out that we had a 45 minute wait time. THEN, we come back 50 minutes later for them to tell us we had another 30 minutes. They didn't warn us by calling or texting, only when we arrived. The employees were very nonchalant and unapologetic about everything after we complained that we had already been waiting a long enough time, especially since they were so strict about their timeliness. They gave us a refund and we never got to play. I would be more understanding if the service was a little more professional and apologetic. read more

I've been meaning to rate the Sandbox VR since I visited the Indianapolis location on Mass Ave in May. My appointment for a party of 6 was at 5:30 and we were right on time despite having a hard time finding parking because we all took separate cars and it was a Saturday evening and the area itself was packed. When we arrived we signed in as we were supposed to and after waiting we were told that the room that holds six had been rented out for a party and that it would be at least a hour wait however they were kind enough to give me a credit for another session for six for another time which I haven't had time to use yet. My friends and I ended up having a great time despite the wait. We had already choose the Star Trek activity ahead of time it lasted about 30 to 40 minutes but the time seemed to go by quickly. I found the whole experience fun I love the fact that they send you a video copy of your experience once it's done. I will definitely go back and pick a different experience next time and maybe even book for a party. Be prepared to wait they seem to be extremely busy on the weekends the session was fun but a little pricy for how long the wait was and how long the activity lasted. If you like virtual reality activities you will thoroughly enjoy the Sandbox VR. read more
